The pro- abortion groups would have you believe that the “morning after pill,” which consists of relatively large doses of estrogens for several days, beginning shortly after unprotected sexual intercourse, will prevent fertilization -- therefore no abortion and your conscience is clear. This NOT true. It is an abortifacient drug, i.e., a drug that induces an abortion, which means the death of a human being. When done willingly and knowingly it has always been considered murder. This includes the "morning after" pill, Preven, Plan B, or the newest entry "Early Option" or whatever ridiculous name they want to give it. Whether it is shortly after conception or in the third tri-mester, it is still, plain and simple, murder!

    What happens when a mother chooses to do away with her baby for her own convenience? The ovum (egg) is already fertilized by the sperm in the fallopian tubes. The result of this union, the zygote, makes its way down the tube into the uterus as the gestation begins. The morning after drugs prevent implantation of the already fertilized ovum, in the lining of the uterus... The large amount of estrogen disturbs the normal balance between estrogen and progesterone that is necessary for preparation of the endometrium (inner lining) of the uterus for implantation of the zygote. Thus the already fertilized ovum cannot attach itself to the lining of the uterus properly. So the drug in fact, causes an abortion to take place.

    Preven and Plan B, are banned from Wal-Mart shelves, so I would urge all Catholics to switch to Wal-Wart and tell them you appreciate their defending the sanctity of human life.

    The "abortion pill" RU486 also destroys the conceptus by interrupting implantation, because of interference with the hormonal environment of the implanting zygote/embryo. These hormones prevent implantation, not fertilization. Consequently, they should not be called contraceptive pills. Conception occurs but the zygote does not implant. It would be more appropriate to call them "contraimplantation pills". Because the term "abortion" refers to a premature stoppage of a pregnancy, the term "abortion" would apply to such an early termination of pregnancy. Yet they're going to call this "silent murder" methodology by the marketing aura of "Early Option."

    What a euphoric name for such a deadly pill. But again, there's Planned Parenthood's imprint, pushing the "choice" moniker by calling it, "option." And, since it's early, they'll try to justify that it won't kill anyone, just some harmless sperm. Here are the facts:

    Progesterone is necessary to maintain the endometrium which provides a nourishing bed for the implantation and development of the fetus. With RU-486, progesterone is blocked and the endometrium no longer is able to nourish the developing child, which starves and is sloughed out.

    Nobody believes that the use of RU486 is safe and innocuous. These are highly active biological compounds which have marked cardiovascular actions requiring close supervision. There is a statement prepared by a joint committee of the French Republic signed by the Director of General Health, the Director of Hospitals and the Director of Pharmacy and Medicine.

    This directive requests that whenever prostaglandins are given, cardiopulmonary resuscitation equipment and electrocardiographic machines be at standby, a defibrillator be available, calcium channel blockers drawn up in a syringe, and vital signs be monitored over a period of several hours.

    What this says, in effect, is that prostaglandins be given only in what amounts to an Intensive Care Unit. This communication, which was sent to all physicians and hospitals in France, followed a fatal cardiac reaction to prostaglandins in a woman who had received the drug after RU-486. It is difficult to sustain the notion of safety against the background of such warnings.

    Women will be injured, and possibly even killed, by the known adverse physical and psychological side effects of the RU 486 technique. Medical and scientific experts point out the lack of data about potential long-term side effects of the two powerful synthetic hormones, such as increasing the risk of breast cancer, damage to future fertility, and genetic abnormalities of subsequent children.

    An incomplete abortion, because of the usage of RU486 has been known to cause profuse hemorrhaging, and has necessitated blood transfusions and a follow up surgical abortion to retrieve the remains of the conceptus.

    Very little consideration is given, of course, to the safety of the drugs for the unborn child who is intended to be killed. It must be a matter of concern, however, in those instances where the woman changes her mind after taking the drug and where the drug is only partially effective.

    In those cases where the endometrium is partially disrupted, deformities due to impaired nutrition may occur. Also, the drug itself is similar in chemical structure to other teratogens and might be expected to produce deformities. There have been sporadic reports of such abnormalities, mostly limb-bud anomalies similar to those caused by Thalidomide.

    With this drug women will be able to see the little figure of a human being when it is discharged, thus in many women their emotional problems will be more severe -- to actually see your baby that you have killed.

    The proponents of this drug say that studies show that only 2 percent of women who use mifepristone [RU-486] need hospitalization for complications. If they say 2%, you can bet it’s a lot more. Watch for lots of activity in your local emergency rooms to come.

    It is practically a fait accomplis that the FDA will give the green light to this "murder pill" this week because it's more money for the drug companies and Clinton-Gore have already put their stamp on it, even to approving a company that is having it produced in Communist China. The same country which has been called on the carpet countless times for human rights abuses by an international jury; the same country that forces sterilization, forces couples to have one child. We're heading in the same direction if we support this administration or its politics!

    In the eyes of the Catholic Church and all people of faith there is NO difference between chemically induced abortions and surgically induced abortions and if you have read carefully, you WILL agree...regardless of what the "political experts" tell you. God makes no exception when a human life is destroyed.
