Palms up for the survivors who look to the Son to light their way over a sea churning with discord brought on by the world, the flesh and the devil!

In our editorial this week, we look at who are truly the survivors during a summer rampant with that term. In a time when millions mean instant money and temporal gain in the stock market, two million young survivors took stock of their lives and passed with flying colors in the heat of Rome's unforgiving sun to celebrate World Youth Day 2000. As Pope John Paul II encouraged the massive throngs of youthful souls at Tor Vergata over the weekend, the Son is always forgiving and in that we can take heart and overcome all adversity, all obstacles, all that satan throws at us by seeking out Jesus for He alone has the words of eternal life. In the great voyage of life, the only safe passage is on the Barque of Peter and those who have not yet booked passage are learning the wisdom of doing so. In addition to our new weekly format for daily issues, we'll provide the latest news headlines, updated daily from Catholic World News (of which we will continue to provide their ticker) plus articles from ZENIT and Church News so all can keep up-to-date with what is truly happening in the world from a Roman Catholic point of view.

FRIDAY
Saint Louis of France

August 25th is the Feast of the great holy monarch of France Saint Louis, husband, father and ruler who also led a Crusade. Considered with Saint Joan of Arc as the patron saint of France, he shares the day with Saint Joseph Calasanz as you can read in our liturgy section. Also today Sister Mary Lucy Astuto brings more words of inspiration.
SATURDAY
Blessed Virgin Mary

Besides being a Weekday in Ordinary Time, August 26th is the customary Observance of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday, a tradition that goes back to the days of Charlemagne. In addition, we post the August 25th Medjugorje Monthly Message released late on Friday, as Our Lady strives to bring more ever closer to her Divine Son Jesus.
SUNDAY
World Youth Days 2000

On August 27th we bring you Pope John Paul II's closing address at his Papal Mass at Tor Vergata on the outskirts of Rome plus his Angelus last Sunday for World Youth Day 2000 where 2 million youth from 160 countries came together in faith, hope and love to celebrate with the Pope in Rome as the Holy Father urged all to not turn away from Christ.
MONDAY

On August 28th, the Feast of Saint Augustine, columnist Pat Ludwa reminds all of the sacrificial nature of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and that there can be no meaningful "meal" without the immolation of the Lamb reenacted in an unbloody manner at the Consecration.
TUESDAY
St. John the Baptist

August 29th we commemorate the Martyrdom of Saint John the Baptist and bring you the seventh installment of Cyndi Cain's inspirational SYMPHONY OF SUFFERING as she relates what was revealed to her at Lourdes regarding the Mystical Body of Christ and His vehicle - the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
WEDNESDAY
The vultures are circling

In his Pro-Life Prescriptions column for August 30th Dr. Frank Joseph examines the moral principles of those who say one thing and do the other. He shows how this deceit has caused the decay of America as the vultures of vice, vulgarity and vanity circle above this rotting carcass that needs the healing graces of God.
THURSDAY

On the final day of August we begin a detailed catechesis in our GIFT OF OUR FAITH series on the First Commandment and how, from the time of Moses, it was apparent that keeping God's laws were conditional to the destiny of nations and peoples. So also today when America has strayed so far from the principles of this Divine Decalogue.
