Votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday
White Vestments

Missa "Salve, sancta parens"

The Mass of the Blessed Virgin shows us Mary as Mother of our Savior. She was predestined from all eternity for the role of co-redemptrix (Epistle), for as Eve was the intermediary chosen by the angel of darkness to bring about the fall of Adam, so also Mary the intermediary to whom the angel Gabriel delivered the message of salvation from Heaven. She is also blessed since she heard the word of God and obeyed it (Gospel)

      EPISTLE:   Eccles. 24. 14-16
Lectio libri Sapientiae.
      Deo Gratias.
Lesson from the Book of Wisdom. From the beginning, and before the world, was I created, and unto the world to come I shall not cease to be, and in the holy dwelling place I have ministered before him. And so I was established in Sion, and in the holy city likewise I rested, and my power was in Jerusalem. And I took root in an honorable people, and in the portion of y God his inheritance, ad my abode is in the full assembly of saints.
      Thanks be to God.

      GOSPEL:    John 19: 25-27
      Dominus vobiscum.
      R. Et cum spiritu tuo.
      Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum Joannem.
      R.Gloria tibi, Domine

In illo tempore: Stabant juxta crucem Jesu mater ejuis, et soror matris ejus Maria Cleophae, et Maria Magdalene. Cum vidisset ergo Jesus matrem, et discipulum stantem, quem diligebat, dicit matri suae: "Mulier, ecce filius tuus." Deinde dicit discipulo: "Ecce mater tua." Et ex illa hora acceptit eam discipulis in sua.
      Laus tibi Christe.

      The Lord be with you.
      R. And with thy spirit.
The continuation of the holy Gospel according to John.
      R. Glory to Thee, O Lord

At that time, there stood by the cross of Jesus, His mother and His mother's sister, Mary of Cleophas and Mary Magdalen. When Jesus therefore had seen His mother and the disciple standing whom He loved, He saith to His Mother:"Woman, behold thy son." After that He saith to the disciple: "Behold thy mother." And from that hour the disciple took her to his own.
      Praise be to Christ

PREFACE   Preface of the Blessed Virgin Mary
      Dominus vobiscum.
      R. Et cum spiritu tuo.
      Sursum corda.
      R.Habemus ad Dominum.
      Gratias agamus Domino Deo nostro.

      SANCTUS, SANCTUS, SANCTUS...
      The Lord be with you.
      R. And with thy spirit.
      Lift up your hearts.
R.We have lifted them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
      R. It is meet and just.

It is truly meet and just, right and availing unto salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty and everlasting God. That on the Festival of the blessed Virgin Mary, we should praise, bless and proclaim Thee. For she conceived Thine only-begotten Son by the over-shadowing of the Holy Ghost; and losing not the glory of her virginity, gave forth to the world the everlasting light, Jesus Christ our Lord. Through whom the angels praise Thy majesty, the Dominions worship it, and the powers stand in awe. The Heavens and the heavenly Hosts, and the blessed Seraphim join together in celebrating their joy. With these we pray Thee join our voices also, while we say with lowly praise:
      HOLY, HOLY, HOLY...
