Today is the transferred Double of the First Class Feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Normally celebrated on March 25, this year because Easter was earlier it fell during Holy Week. Thus, it could not be celebrated until the first available day after Easter. That meant Easter Week was out and therefore it falls to today, fifteen days after the actual feast day. Yet it seems so right and proper that we are celebrating this joyous feast during this glorious time.

        To honor this day, we encourage you to assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass if available to you. Short of that, you can follow the Ordinary and Propers of the Mass by clicking above left the Vultum tuum 'missal' opposite the masthead. We also bring you below a meditation presented a few years ago by John Gregory that provides great inspiration for the First Joyful Mystery which dovetails into a third suggestion: Pray the holy Rosary daily. It is no coincidence that on Monday the Joyful Mysteries are prayed and the Annunciation happens to fall on Monday this year. So let us dedicate this day to Our Lady and bask in the glow of her holiness, so evident to all on this day of the incarnation of the God-son in her immaculate womb.

        As we settle into the glorious season of Paschaltide, I need to get to the heart of the matter for no doubt many have heard by now that it was believed this editor had a "heart attack" on the night of April 3rd. What occurred was a "perfect storm", if you will, of the collision of a severe case of arthritis, pinched vertebrae in my neck that affected my left arm, bronchitis and muscle inflammation in my chest in a Rube Goldberg fashion, so to speak, that when clicking into place, mimicked all the symptoms of a heart attack. It is the result of being down and quarantined since March 4th with a yeast infection in my lungs that greatly sapped my strength and weakened my immune system. That and coughing from the contamination caused the muscles to inflame and threw the discs at the spine in my neck out of kilter, hence creating both numbing arm and heavy pain in the chest area where the heart rests.

        After extensive tests in Sharp Memorial Hospital's excellent Cardiac Center, it was discovered that my heart is actually stronger than normal. Wow! was that good news considering the alternative! The doctors finally diagnosed what actually happened and they're still not sure exactly how that all melded together when it did - as I said, the "perfect storm" - but it was serious enough at the time that Cyndi called our associate pastor Fr. Bernard Welp, CMRI who, by God's providence, was in town and he came over to Sharp immediately and met me in the ER room late on this past Wednesday where, after the doctor originally diagnosed that it could be a blockage, Father administered the Sacrament of Extreme Unction and left me in total peace as to whatever would be God's will.

       He has given me a reprieve to breathe another day and I am grateful. Evidently it was not my time and I urge you to pray for Mrs. Melissa Kunkel who did have a massive heart attack and died, leaving behind devoted husband Thomas and twelve children ages 2 to 17. She was a traditional Catholic who lived her faith and believed in the Sacrament of Matrimony to populate Heaven. Please keep the family in your prayers as you pray for the repose of her soul.

        Evidently mine was a warning to take greater care and a sign that God wills that I continue publishing the DailyCatholic as best I can on limited donations and trying to get plenty of rest. After all, Jesus did assure us that "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." So be patient as we rev up in resuming daily publication, which, as asserted in my last editorial An Armada to Arms!, it's full speed ahead. Within reason, that is as I struggle to recover, pace myself and rely on the grace of God that the doctors will find a way to keep me functioning without a relapse. I am so thankful it was not my heart since I did have a heart attack in 1988 and in 2000. So it seemed inevitable it was a heart attack on April 3 considering my history. I was really amazed at their findings after extensive echo cardiograms, coronary and pulmonary angiograms, beaucoup xrays and stress testing. I'm not out of the woods yet, so still have to take it easy and still weak and it has set back my schedule for recovery by a week or more for I was hoping to get back to Mass today but will have to wait until next week at the earliest. I should be able to get back to tweeting regularly again soon, something I haven't been able to do since late last Wednesday afternoon.

        But now it's back to daily publishing. Fortunately I already had the Sunday and Monday issues formatted and ready to load so I'm able to meet the deadline. However, as you'll see in coming issues, I will pare back the issues so it will be quicker to read and where I can meet schedules without taxing myself too much as I strive to recover while on the prescribed meds and specific physical therapy that does tire me out quickly. I want to thank all of those who offered their prayers and expressed concern via emails, phone calls, retweets and Dr. Thomas A. Droleskey's comforting encouragement he wrote on his site Christorchaos.com after NovusOrdoWatch.org retweeted Cyndi's tweet Thursday morning.

        Both Cyndi and I are most grateful. I should be taking care of my bride of nearly 32 years and here she's been nursing me. What a wonderful, wondrous wife! All through the ordeal and even now as I write this, I can't help but think how many do not take seriously the Last Four Things - Death, Judgment, Heaven and Hell. Believe me, it's vitally important. I also lament on how many are deprived of the true Sacraments when they need it most and it is only through the grace of God that we here in San Diego have been privileged to have the wonderful CMRI priests available. John Gregory presents his magnificent reflection on the First Joyful Mystery. He asks what greater joy can there be than to be told by a heavenly messenger of the highest order - St. Gabriel the Archangel - that the Almighty Father has created you for all time for this moment? Chosen the Holy Ghost as your divine Spouse? and selected you, among zillions of souls, to be the mother of His only-begotten Son? This great Mystery is cause for unending joy and if there ever was a sanctification of motherhood it was in Mary's fiat that she would accept - "be it done unto me according to Thy will" - and through the full cooperation of her Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart, paved the way for God's children to gain Heaven through this living and most pure Ark of the Covenant. Bishop Daniel Dolan, pastor of St. Gertrude the Great in the Cincinnati area presents an 8 minute sermon to the children that was first delivered in 2007 in which he spoke of how devotion to Our Lady is so important in staying true to her divine Son for it was on this day that she accepted the role of the Mother of God and ultimately the Mother of her divine Son's Church. Though the first Sunday following Easter is called Low Sunday, in truth St. John the Evangelists leaves us with a spiritual high in both his Epistle and Gospel, emphasizing how faith conquers all and is the answer to believing in Christ the Lord. Father Benedict Hughes, CMRI, Rector of St. Joseph's Minor Seminary in Rathdrum, Idaho at the City of Mary presents a 13 minute sermon for Low Sunday or as is known in some circles "Quasi modo Sunday" from the Introit of today's Mass. Editor Michael Cain asks how much longer can the Almighty Father stay His hand? Considering the Prophesies of Saint Malachy, it would seem not much longer for we have reached that point in time - in history - when we have arrived at that Mayan moment, if you will, for this is far more serious than any Y2K scare or Mayan/Egyptian prediction that the world will end.
