With this Paschaltide edition during April we count down to the Blessed Mother's Month of May as we bask in the glorious graces bestowed during this time of Paschaltide, reaping the fruits of this past Lent and recommitting ourselves to stick to our spiritual resolutions to make a difference in a world that has abandoned God and His commandments. That is the theme of this edition as below you'll find the various articles published in this edition as well as the daily propers for each day of these last two plus weeks of April.

Novena to Our Mother of Good Counsel

Said daily for nine days from April 17 up to April 26

Holy Virgin, moved by the painful uncertainty we experience in seeking and acquiring the true and the good, we cast ourselves at thy feet and invoke thee under the sweet title of Mother of Good Counsel. We beseech thee: come to our aid at this moment in our worldly sojourn when the twin darknesses or error and of evil that plots our ruin by leading minds and hearts astray. Seat of Wisdom and Star of the Sea, enlighten the victims of doubt and of error so that they may not be seduced by evil masquerading as good; strengthen them against the hostile and corrupting forces of passion and of sin.

Mother of Good Counsel, obtain for us from thy Divine Son the love of virtue and the strength to choose, in doubtful and difficult situations, the course agreeable to our salvation. Supported by thy hand we shall thus journey without harm along the paths taught us by the word and example of Jesus our Savior, following the Sun of Truth and Justice in freedom and safety across the battlefield of life under the guidance of thy maternal Star, until we come at length to the harbor of salvation to enjoy with thee unalloyed and everlasting peace. Amen.

Approved by Pope Pius XII, 23 January 1953

The gauntlet has been thrown down. The enemy taunts us to retaliate, but we must mass together as one force to outflank the devil. We can only do that by being fully committed, fully aware of the consequences one faces when one enlists in God's army. It means having a solid defense before going on the offense. Like having an immovable defensive line with daring linebackers and safeties in football, or being strong up the middle in baseball, or having a go-to point guard to go with a strong presence in the post in basketball, or a hot goalie in hockey or soccer, in the Catholic game of life our defense is rooted in prayer and self-sacrifice. Without it we will cave. In order to have a formidable offense we must be buoyed by the sacraments and go forth in grace. Only then will God bless our efforts. All He asks is that we try. The problem is too many don't even want to try, don't want to be bothered, don't even want to tithe to help those striving to keep the holy Faith alive. There are consequences for those who just want to sit on the sidelines and not make the effort. Dire ones as editor Michael Cain points out in asking Are You a Wimp or a Warrior?

Father George Leo Haydock's commentaries on the Douay-Rheims version of the New Testament are provided by John Gregory. Though the first Sunday following Easter is called Low Sunday, in truth St. John the Evangelists leaves us with a spiritual high in both his Epistle and Gospel, emphasizing how faith conquers all and is the answer to believing in Christ the Lord. Those who believe not, are liars and in deep trouble if they do not believe the Three in One Who gave testimony and the physical testimony of Christ's two natures - Divine (the spirit) and human (water and blood) which lives on in the Sacred Deposit of the Faith through the spirit (inspired divine revelation), the water (Baptism) and the Blood (the Perpetual Holy Sacrifice of the Mass) For further discernment on this, Fr. Haydock provides more food for thought for as Catholics we go by faith, not feelings. That is why there are few lows when one goes on faith, but a constant confident high that is tempered by a steady keel provided by the sacramental life of the Church that enables us to believe and say the very same words the doubting Apostle said when he was at last convinced: My Lord, and my God. Dominus meus, et Deus meus. We see this is A Testament of Lasting Faith

To emphasize exactly what St. Paul warned about, we have decided to bring you a retro series first penned by Stephen Grieve on these pages three years ago and, as it did then, so also now it should stir the sensibilities of those who continue to elude the inevitability that a true pope would never and could never do what the conciliar leaders in Rome have done for the past 50 years plus In his first installment he introduced the first passage that indicates such in 2 Thessalonians 2: 6-7 in which he pointed to the Greek root of the word for 'withholder' as it is in the Douay-Rheims version and 'restrainer' as it is in the newer versions as κατέχων. Should we be surprised considering Greek was the language of the Thessalonians and which Paul was well versed in? In his study, Stephen began, by deduction, to eliminate possibilities that could not refer to the κατέχων (o Katechon) as he narrowed it down to show that the 'absence' of the 'withholder' or 'restrainer' ultimately refers to the Papacy. He explained in part one of his series "Towards a Scriptural Brief suggesting Sede Vacante" with Introduction to an Examination of 2 Thessalonians 2: 6-7

In continuing John Gregory's dissertation on the Sermon on the Mount, it's a fact that "fruits and nuts" has several connotations, but when it comes to Our Lord's words in St. Matthew 7: 20-22, Jesus does not mince words about those who would harm souls through heresy for Christ speaks of the false prophets - those who misconstrue purposely or through their own laziness the true meaning of the Savior's Word. John Gregory provides the opinions and discernment of several holy Doctors, Saints and theologians on the one barometer Jesus sets: to know them by their fruits - their words and actions and the results of such. We know from earlier how Christ assured us that a good tree cannot produce evil fruit, so also an evil tree can never ever yield good fruit; more evidence that the conciliar church is bad fruit and its leaders all false prophets. Thus, stay clear of such rotten fruits unless you want to be entangled in the thorns and thistles of heresy and apostasy for just saying "Lord, Lord" is no ticket to Heaven for God knows the heart as John details in his on-going series Sermon on the Mount Part Thirteen

Bill Metallo weighs in with the fact that the biggest problem with Vatican II is that Catholics ever recognized it in the first place. Previous Popes and Councils had already ruled that what Vatican II did could not be done nor ever be legitimately enforced. Yet, under cover of the devil himself, slowly but surely his evil enshrouded all of Rome and what was Eternal Rome became Modernist Rome with heresy galore in this time of The Great Apostasy. It has become the most tragic time in the annals of Church History. It is a time of oxymorons for all the false church of Vatican II can offer is cruel kindness. And that is truly the cruelest kind of all as Bill pinpoints in his article The Bitter Fruits of Vatican II

Through these revelations to the holy mystic St. Bridget of Sweden we see clearer than ever the mind of God and His Most Immaculate Mother and what we need to do to not only assure our own salvation, but win souls for Him in sharing Heaven. In the thirty-first chapter of Book Three, we read how St. Bridget hears Christ's words to her in which He offers the admirable allegory of a doctor and king, and how the doctor symbolizes Christ Himself, and how those whom people think will be condemned are frequently saved while those whom people or worldly opinion think will be saved are condemned. It is a lesson we can all take to heart for God alone knows what is in each man's heart, not man as we see God's reasoning in The Divine Physician

It all started with the first lie by the serpent in the garden and has mushroomed ever since. What is so deadly about a lie, like the deadly viper, it lies there, knowing very well the consequences, and yet it waits ready to pounce once the lie is told. The venom has been released. The victim can never fully recover nor can the one spewing poison fully make reparation. Thus both reputations are skewered - either to the one who the lie hurts or the liar himself whose own reputation for truth is sullied with every lie, not to mention the unspeakable harm to the soul. There are many ways we can bear false witness against our neighbor and today, with all the technology available, it has become a dangerous jungle that we have to navigate so very carefully to avoid the pitfalls and deadly sins that can annihilate reputations and souls. Only by putting on the armor of God as St. Paul urges in Ephesians can we protect ourselves from the slithering serpent who lies in his lair lying like a banshee for he is the evil principality on high who can lay us low, really low like in hell. Sanctifying grace is the only antidote to the venom of deceit as we can see in Step Forty-One on The Eighth Commandment - Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor

April 21st is the traditional feast of the holy Doctor of the Church and Bishop Saint Anselm who was a crusader against lay investiture, fiercely loyal to Rome and to his vocation as a priest who loved his flocks. They rewarded him by fiercely standing behind him against mighty temporal kings. He was a Frenchman who conquered the Brits with love. He was the father of Scholastic Theology. He was the holy doctor from Piedmont whose writings and teachings became an important barometer for another Doctor of the Church - the angelic doctor St. Thomas Aquinas a little over a century later. St. Anselm was the uncompromising Archbishop of Canterbury in the middle ages who lived 76 years and is known best as the Father of Scholasticism.

John Gregory has graciously provided Father George Leo Haydock's commentaries on the Douay-Rheims version of the New Testament. The Second Sunday following Easter is often referred to as Good Shepherd Sunday for the Gospel of St. John in which Christ proclaims that He is the Good Shepherd and He knows His sheep and they know Him. He identifies those who are not true shepherds for they will flee and leave the flock to fend for themselves, but not before they have weakened them further by not instilling sound doctrine and safeguards for their souls. Such is the state of the shepherds within the conciliar structure who are either lukewarm or lemmings who have an agenda to please man, not God. We know they are false shepherds from the chief shepherd the world considers as pope all the way down to the lowliest priest for there are so few true priests left thanks to the false shepherd Paul VI daring to alter what Christ established. As St. Paul says so clearly in Galatians 1: 8, if some one preach other than what is Catholic truth, let them be condemned, just as the dogmatic Council of Trent reaffirmed. We see so clearly Our Lord's words My Sheep know Me

During this Easter Week we celebrate the feast of the holy Doctor of the Church St. Peter Canisius. This Dutch-born Jesuit priest played a key role in the landmark dogmatic and canonical Council of Trent and in debating the Protestant heresies while whirling through his native Netherlands and Germany, Austria, Bohemia and Poland. He was a great eloquent preacher sought by prince and pauper alike. He served as mediator between Holy Roman Emperors and Popes. He also founded the University of Fribourg in 1580. One of his most famous works was "Manuel of Catholics" and he is referred to as the "Second Apostle of Germany," giving way only to the great Saint Boniface as the "First Apostle of Germany." Because of his efforts, the counter-reformation was a resounding success in Bavaria. He was truly the Windmill of Wisdom.

John Gregory has graciously provided Father George Leo Haydock's commentaries on the Douay-Rheims version of the New Testament. The Third Sunday following Easter is often called Jubilation Sunday for the Introit "Jubiláte Deo" which means "Shout with joy to God" and Our Lord's words in the Gospel of St. John are indeed cause for joy for no matter how much we may suffer, no matter the travails, Jesus assures us, if we stay the course, obey the divine will and are ever faithful our sorrow will be turned to joy. When that is, only God knows for time to the Almighty is as if thousands of years are but a moment, even just a second as the Haydock Commentary pores over in today's commentary for the Third Sunday after Easter. In a little while...

Because of the spiritual importance of the Liturgical Season, we have thus turned to the most traditional and practical Catholic source available, none other than the inspired and motivating words of the esteemed Abbot of Solesmes Dom Prosper Louis Pascal Gueranger, renowned for his masterful work The Liturgical Year, which is often considered the Summa for the Church's Liturgy in History, Mystery and Practice. Just as we did for Septuagesima, Lent and Holy Week, so also we do the same for Paschaltide for it is in those areas that we feel it is important to address in order to help readers live as better Catholics in knowing, living, and applying their Faith to the fullest and giving to Christ and His Blessed Mother all that they can. Few capture the essence as this humble but brilliant abbot who is known simply as "the Gardener of the Canticles of Eternity" as we present excerpts from Volume 7, pages 1-24 with The Glory of Paschal Time

We hope to reach more souls through this newest technology of twitter in the left column. It is something that prior to now we have avoided. However, in an effort to reach beyond the choir, if you will, and to provide inspiration with short prayers and ejaculations, facts, links, comments and quips, we've launched out into the deep of social networking with twitter.com/dailycatholoic and ask guidance from the Holy Ghost to navigate others to the beacon we offer with the safe port of the DailyCatholic. Some have suggested we start a facebook page and our answer to that is we have enough on our plate with this site which contains well over 50,000 pages already. If someone wants to start a facebook page for SANCTUS/DailyCatholic we would be open to communicating with them, but we ourselves do not have the time to manage it.
