However, the conciliar church of Vatican II can add good St. Matthias to the list of novelty changes they made thanks to the antipope paul vi in 1969 when he moved the feast of the apostle who replaced Judas Escariot to after Easter in May because so often St. Matthias' feast falls during Lent. So, it would still be celebrated just as are the feasts of major saints during Lent in February and in March with the feasts Sts. Casimir, Thomas Aquinas, Gregory the Great, Patrick, Cyril of Jerusalem, Joseph, Benedict, Isidore, Gabriel the Archangel, John Damascene; and in April Sts. Francis of Paola, Isidore the holy Doctor, Vincent Ferrer, and Pope Leo the Great leading up to Holy Week; all of these saints the true Church founded by Christ will celebrate this year. So the feeble excuse given by the Modernist Montini and his like-wise Modernist successors is merely more facade trappings to dumb down the masses in order to destroy true Catholicism. Yes, what the robber barons have done since the death of His Holiness Pope Pius XII is try to destroy what St. Matthias and his eleven other fellow Apostles and St. Paul and all the disciples that followed throughout the centuries planted. The venerated Benedictine Abbot Dom Prosper Gueranger presents a reflection for the fifth day of Septuagesima as he shows the hope for man in the Mercy of God by promising He will send a redeemer - a second Adam through a second Eve to atone for the sin of the first parents that not only exiled them from the Garden of Eden, consigned to work from the sweat of their brow, but also consigned all those who came after to be born with their Original Sin on their souls for man would carry the burden of fallen human nature originating from that event. Perhaps those in the time of the Old Covenant could not appreciate God's words that the woman would crush the serpent's head but we can in retrospect see the great role the Mother of God is playing and will continue to play until she crushes satan's skull but good. Throughout the world there are times, more frequent recently such as the terrible riots in the Mid East and the earthquakes in New Zealand, when people come together to help their neighbor. This then is a simple blueprint of how to treat and help our neighbor both body and soul. Too often works of mercy become a humanistic endeavor where one feels obligated to help out of peer pressure or because it's the thing to do and one will gain some temporal reward either financially or in praise or out of pity and so they become philanthropic without realizing it doesn't amount to a hill of beans when push comes to shove except that the recipient may have gained temporal relief of some kind. Too many fail to realize for something to truly be a work of mercy and gain merit in Heaven it must be done out of love for our neighbor because of our love for God first and foremost. Without God as the Keystone of all we do, all is futile. That is why the corporal works of mercy cannot stand on their own without the spiritual works of mercy. Yet, both are vital in our cooperation with salvation for ourselves and our neighbor as we can see in The Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy

The venerated Benedictine Abbot Dom Prosper Gueranger presents a reflection for the fourth day of Septuagesima as he provides the reason why holy Mother Church in her wisdom has established the penitential season in pre-Lent with the Time of Septuagesima as he gives a brief history of this short two and a half week season comprised of Septuagesima week, Sexagesima week and Quingagesima week which in the midst of that week falls Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. It is a preparation for really getting down to the business of fasting and penance in anticipation of the holiest week of the year as the Abbot explains in Wednesday in Septuagesima Week

The holy Bishop and Doctor of the Church Saint Peter Damian lived during the reign of sixteen pontiffs - some antipopes, no less. He was the first Doctor in over three centuries - a time when the Church sank into laxity and corruption, especially in the disciplines and when simony was rampant in ecclesial circles. It was truly the "Dark Ages" and into this darkness God sent a guiding light to reform His Holy Church early in the second millennium. This holy monk counseled seven popes. He was the first Doctor to be made a cardinal and he strove for sanctity by constantly denying himself any of the pleasures that could lead one to sin for in all things he always practiced what he preached for St. Peter Damian was truly Guiding Light in the Dark Ages

The venerated Benedictine Abbot Dom Prosper Gueranger presents a reflection for the third day of Septuagesima on the dilemma Eve faced and failed. Once she took a bite of the shiny red apple from the forbidden tree, she realized the devil was a deceiver. It's a trait he has had ever since he fell from Heaven and continues that very same deceit to this day, in fact he's ramped up his deceit where he's deceived so many with the "operation of error" as St. Paul describes the Great Apostasy to "believe a lie." Unfortunately Eve did and we've suffered with original sin ever since for there are consequences to disobeying God. Wouldn't you think that by 2011 we would have realized that and learned? Many believe St. Peter first established the Church entrusted to him by Christ Himself in Rome, but it was really Antioch which around the time of Christ's death was the capital of the East, not Jerusalem as many might think. It was there that three years after our Lord ascended into Heaven Simon Bar Jona, the man Jesus called Petrus, set up shop, so to speak, in Antioch as the first diocese and from there spread out to the world. It was there as Primate of Antioch that he was imprisoned in Jerusalem by Herod, then through Heaven's intervention, he fled his jailors. Realizing they would assume he would return to Antioch, he threw them off by escaping to Rome and, as we know, the rest is history.     From Traditio we see that the SSPX's Superior General Bishop Bernard Fellay is finally beginning to feel the heat and see the truth of our Lord's words about Mammon.     Through the gracious effort of John Gregory, we can provide you the Haydock Commentaries for the Epistle and Gospel for Septuagesima Sunday to complement the Propers of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Father Haydock provides in his commentaries the essence of what Christ illustrates in His parables in St. Matthew's Gospel regarding the laborers in the field and how He compares it to Heaven and the hours of the day to times of man's life from infancy to manhood to middle age to old age to the last days of man's life in addition to equating the hours to the time from Adam to Noah to Abraham to Christ and to the end of days. In the Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians, the Apostle of the Gentiles likens life to a race for the purpose of winning the prize which is Heaven. In order to do so he must condition his soul through prayer and sacrifice and gain nourishment from the Holy Eucharist, foreshadowed by manna from Heaven in the Old Covenant. As many fall short in the race and achieving their just reward, so also our Lord concludes His Gospel parable by reminding that many are called, but few are chosen as you can see in Haydock Commentary for Septuagesima Sunday

    The venerated Benedictine Abbot Dom Prosper Gueranger, who someday when a true Pope is reinstated as head of Christ's holy Church, will be considered for the honor of Doctor of the Church for his fidelity and magnificent opus The Liturgical Year, provides reflection on the Epistle and Gospel for Septuagesima Sunday, with the former reminding us that if we are willing to run the race and do all we're asked, we can be assured of being nourished and refreshed by God and will finishs the race with the laurel being everlasting life in Heaven. He also points to the fact Jesus was foretelling to the Jews in the Gospel that the New Covenant will replace the Old and those who are not willing to work for it will not finish though those who give their best, including Gentiles, will have the opportunity of obtaining the prize. Reflections for Septuagesima Sunday

          As we complete the Second Book of these revelations to St. Bridget, we see clearer than ever the mind of God and His Most Immaculate Mother and what we need to do to not only assure our own salvation, but win souls for Him in sharing Heaven. In the final chapter of Book Two, the Blessed Mother entreats her Son for His bride and for another holy person. Then we see how the Mother's entreaty is received by Christ, and on certainty regarding the truth or falsity of a person's holiness in this life. And though he was not specifically referring to men like Karol Wojtyla in His last few paragraphs to St. Bridget, what our Lord says in the final paragraph nails the man called John Paul II and the insanity and sacrilege of his upcoming beatification to satisfy the world and justify that which is abhorred by God. Consider these words; "Therefore, it is not right for such food to be lifted up before wolves, whose greed is never sated, whose lust for pleasure flees from the herbs of virtue and thirsts for rotten meat," as Jesus affirms in chapter thirty. Those blinded by their own love are unworthy to see the Light

    In the shadow of the Time of Septuagesima, just a few days off, let us review the second part of the Great Commandment to love one another as God has loved us. This entails loving our neighbor which does not mean only the one next door or across the street, but in the sense of all who we come in contact with, treating them always with the love of God; yes, even our enemies. Here comes into play one of the biggest bugaboos that often are used against those striving to do God's holy Will. Enemies of Christ will accuse Christians of being intolerant if they do as St. Paul entreats us to do in 2 Timothy 4: 2 to "Preach the word, be instant in season, out of season, reprove, entreat, rebuke with all patience and doctrine." If we do that we will always express love for our neighbor as well as our enemies, turning their attacks into honey to salve our own hearts and soften theirs. The greatest result is that it will please the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts and that is what is most important in the overall scope of things as we can see in step twenty-eight Loving Friend and Foe

    Few realize that the shortest month of the year provides the most martyrs with twelve days dedicated to either as the feast or commemoration or the historical feast of a martyr. Appropriate then that red would be the color in February and especially this year when the Time of Septuagesima starts as late as possible. What we provide is a litany to all of the saints whose feast days are celebrated in the month of February. Many of these saints are little-known and often are not, for that reason, invoked in our prayers. While there are several feria days in this month, almost each day is dedicated to one or more saints historically and acknowledged in the traditional calendars. If you add this short litany to your daily Rosary, you will have the benefit of invoking the prayers of some of these lesser-known Saints honored in February

       Today is the final day of the Time after Epiphany, and what the Church might call "Samedi Gras" for "Mardi Gras" is held on Shrove Tuesday, yet that is within penitential Time of Septuagesima. Therefore, a truer celebration would be Saturday before Septuagesim for the time to bring out the King cakes for today is appropriately celebrated with the Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday, and as today's Introit from the Sedelius says, "Hail, holy Mother, thou who didst bring forth the King who rules Heaven and earth for ever and ever." Truly worth celebrating! Mary is the holy living Tabernacle who protected the Living Bread and was with her divine Son through it all, even to the death on the cross where shortly before He expired, bequeathed His Mother to St. John and therefore His Church as we see in the Gospel for the Mass. We end the season with remembrance of His crucifixion and we begin tomorrow the season building up to that moment, climaxed by Christ the King's glorious Resurrection. In essence then, today is the Church's "Mardi Gras" which we would call "Samedi Gras" when there is no need to fast so enjoy the cake as well as the flowers that remain on the altar and the Gloria at holy Mass. Tomorrow the flowers disappear and holy Mother Church, in her wisdom, deigns for her true priests to don purple vestments as the solemn time begins. Albeit, it is not Lent yet, but this next two and a half weeks are a primer for prayer, penance, making reparation and giving alms, leading to Ash Wednesday when we all get down to serious business. But for today, enjoy and celebrate for tomorrow we die to ourselves for Christ our Sovereign King. Today's Holy Sacrifice of the Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary

          Through these revelations to St. Bridget we see clearer than ever the mind of God and His Most Immaculate Mother and what we need to do to not only assure our own salvation, but win souls for Him in sharing Heaven. As we near the end of Book Two, it's important to realize the divine Will and apply it to our lives and mission as Our Lady's disciples of the Last Days in perpetuating the holy Faith no matter the obstacles. In chapter twenty-nine, St. Bridget is visited by the one crying in the wilderness who knows well of what he speaks. That would be St. John the Baptist and he comes to admonish the bride through a parable in which God is symbolized by a magpie, the soul by its chicks, the body by its nest, worldly pleasures by wild animals, pride by birds of prey, worldly mirth by a snare. Indeed there is much to learn before taking flight. God's Natural Radar for Our Flight Plan to Heaven

          In chapter twenty-eight we see Christ's words to the bride about His unchanging nature and how His words are accomplished, even if they are not immediately followed by deeds; and how our will should be wholly entrusted to God's will for with man most is impossible, but with God, as Christ affirms, all things are possible. Through these revelations to St. Bridget we see clearer than ever the mind of God and His Most Immaculate Mother and what we need to do to not only assure our own salvation, but win souls for Him in sharing Heaven. As we near the end of Book Two, it's important to realize the divine Will and apply it to our lives and mission as Our Lady's disciples of the Last Days in perpetuating the holy Faith no matter the obstacles. Christ reminds us to stay the course for Christ cannot deceive nor be deceived

          Through these revelations to St. Bridget we see clearer than ever the mind of God and His Most Immaculate Mother and what we need to do to not only assure our own salvation, but win souls for Him in sharing Heaven. In chapter twenty-seven, Christ instructs the bride about the instruments in the third house, and how such instruments symbolize good thoughts, disciplined senses, and true confession. There is also given an excellent explanation of all these things in general and why it is vital to secure the locks of these houses with a key only to God so that He may come as He wishes to visit a soul and comfort that soul who can therefore, by heeding Heaven's designs, ward off the world, the flesh, and the devil when they would dare try to invade any of the three houses God has planned for those striving to fulfill the divine will. We see this in Tools of Spiritual Security

          Through these revelations to St. Bridget we see clearer than ever the mind of God and His Most Immaculate Mother and what we need to do to not only assure our own salvation, but win souls for Him in sharing Heaven. In chapter twenty-six, we see this in the Virgin's advice to her daughter on how we can apply the Passion of Christ in our daily lives, revealing the last words of the holy St. Lawrence. Then Christ speaks to St. Bridget once more, this time about the clothes that should be kept in the second house, and how these clothes - specifically linens, leathers and silk denote respectively the peace of God, the peace of one's neighbor, and the works of mercy and pure abstinence. They serve as a reminder to meditate on the Passion of Christ and realize how much we offend Him when we sin in any fashion. If He was strict with His saints and those who love Him, how much more strict will He be with those who hurt Him so by sinning? We get an inkling in Book Two with Gird yourselves accordingly

    On the feast of St. Valentine, Cyndi Cain returned after a long hiatus to convey a lesson of love, God's love and how we need to repay Him. But we cannot do so hiding in the shadows. The holy martyr St. Valentine did not cower in the shadows or shy away from persecution for he knew he had Christ with him. Therefore he feared nothing. Because of this he was able to bring comfort and unity to his flock, unifying many in matrimony to assure the holy Faith would continue. Today the true shepherds seem hesitant, afraid to put their hearts into unifying the traditional movement, and in so doing, they are not only losing souls but also wasting precious time as they dilly-dally over petty things that divide us instead of shining the light on what unites us and allowing that to garner the most weight for the welfare of the salvation of souls. The longer they stay in the shadows, the more the darkness engulfs the world. They have the light. We need to give them the spark. God expects us to emerge victorious. While his merits have been mostly forgotten, his name lives on in the commercialization of the secular sector in turning his feast into a multi-billion dollar industry all in the name of "love." The love he spread was nothing like what is circulated today unless the Sacrament of Matrimony is involved and if we do not fight 'gay-marriage' then we have surrendered to the pagans which St. Valentine and those he counciled and married never did. Surrender? "Never," they would shout, "give me death rather than offending the Lord." Think about it as you chomp down on that Hershey's chocolate kiss.

    And speaking of kisses, do you know how the custom of using 'X's for kisses on letters came about? It grew out of medieval legal practices. In order to indicate good faith and honesty in those days, the sign St. Andrew - a cross- was placed after the signature on all important documents. Thereafter, contracts and agreements were not considered binding until each signer added St Andrew's cross after his name. Then he was also required to kiss the document to further guarantee faithful performance of his obligations. The cross was drawn hurriedly and often it was tilted and looked much like the letter "X". Over the centuries, the origin of the ceremony was forgotten. But people still associated the "X" with the kiss instead of the pledge of good faith, and the custom has continued into modern times. It's a shame that the pledge of good faith has been forgotten. Remember the pledge of good faith when you sniff a fresh rose this week, hug your kids and don't forget to do something for your loving spouse in appreciation for their cooperation in God's plan for you and for your children. Our children are the future of the Church in carrying on the True Faith. To do that they must carry on the mission of loving God, keeping His Commandments and populating Heaven all through love and marriage, the holy Sarament of Matrimony. It is the backbone of civilization for without those two key components, chaos reigns.

          As we near the end of Book Two of the Propehesies and Revelations of St. Bridget of Sweden, we see that Christ continues the metaphor of the provisions for the three houses, and how bread stands for a good will, drink for holy forethought, and meats for divine wisdom, as He explains how there is no divine wisdom in erudition but only in the heart and in a good life through prayer and good works, always remembering the First and Last Things, the very purpose of why we are here.     The Thirteenth Century is well known as the "Century of the Saints" for God raised up so many notable holy men and women during the 1200's as we can see from Sts. Francis, Anthony of Padua, Dominic, Simon Stock, Albert the Great, Thomas Aquinas, Bonaventure, and so many more including St. John of Matha whose feast we celebrated earlier this week. Add to this list the Seven Servite Founders, whose feast we celebrate on February 12. These seven men, led by Sts. Alessio de' Falconieri and Buonfiglio dei Monaldi left the world and followed the promptings of the Mother of God to found an order that would be dedicated to Our Lady's Seven Sorrows as the Servants of Mary, known as the Servites.     With every passing day souls are weakening, vulnerable to the roaring lion who is satan, going about the world seeking the ruin of souls and devouring whomever he might because man has become so pliable to the platitudes of the world, the flesh and the devil. Because of explosive current events and because stagnant is not the answer, editor Michael Cain chose the day of healing on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes to ask the true bishops to heal the hurts which begins by burying the hatchets. If they can't do that, there won't be any trees to preen because they will have fallen. For them to continue to hesitate over petty prejudices will make it too late. We can't afford to wait and, before the heavenly Throne, we must try to bring the true successors of the Apostles together sooner rather than later; then let God do the rest. This is, if you will, an Open Letter to the Traditional Bishops, a plea to do all they can to save souls by coming together. If they don't do it now, when? That is the crux of the matter of what Cain urges in this 2011 State of the Soul Address

          How fitting that Our Lady's visit to St. Bridget in chapter twenty-three of the Revelations and Prophecies imparted to this holy mystic and virgin of Sweden would fall on the same day as we celebrate Our Lady's visit to another virgin, St. Bernadette Soubirous at the Grotto above the River Gave. In both the Blessed Mother imparted words of wisdom and humility that serves as a blueprint for eternal happiness. To St. Bridget she explained how humility is likened to a cloak, and how the characteristics of true humility and its wonderful fruits protect one from the wind, rain and hail of distraction, interference and temptation.     Today on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, we turn to the Virgin Mother for healing of hearts and souls. Like the woman St. John saw "clothed in the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars over her heart", the Virgin of Lourdes "is clothed in a robe and veil as white as snow, she wears a blue girdle and on her bare feet rests a golden rose", all symbolic of her virginal love. She exhorts to penance the unfortunate children of Eve who have not been like herself preserved from sin. On the day of the Annunciation she declared her name to us, to manifest that it is on account of the Incarnation that God has vouchsafed to her "not to be tainted with the original stain." Remembering that Mary is "the ark of the new covenant", let us go with confidence to her who "full of grace' visits our earth to multiply in us the gifts of her riches and provide the healing salve for our sins. The glorious Virgin's doctrinal teaching to her daughter about spiritual and temporal wisdom and about which of them one ought to imitate, and how spiritual wisdom leads a person to everlasting consolation no matter how steep the mountain, how difficult the struggle or how dark the exterior for it is what is beneath, inside, that proves the victor whereas temporal wisdom, no matter how easy the road may seem nor how bright the surface facade, leads to eternal damnation as seen in chapter twenty-two of Book Two with Wisdom of the Spirit or of the Flesh?

    No, the above headline has nothing to do with the song of the 50's but rather a song for the ages in carrying out the two greatest Commandments. In these last days before we enter the penitential season, love is in the air. And, no, we are not referring to the commercialization of the feast of the holy martyr St. Valentine, but rather a reminder of how much God loves us that the Father sent His only-begotten Son that we might have life everlasting and have it abundantly as Christ affirmed in St. John 10: 10. It has often been said that love begins in the heart, and it does but in a way few are willing to recognize for that heart, which miraculously is the core of life fashioned by God to pump blood to our mortal bodies will cease once the blood stops flowing and the flesh withers and dies. But how we lived while that heart was working is the key to whether the real core of our lives - the soul - lives on in eternal bliss or is relegated to the abyss of hell to forever suffer. Therefore, the Infinite established two great commandments for finite man to follow, to love God first and foremost, and then to love ourselves and our fellow man because of our love for Him. Jesus said it so clearly that one cannot love Him if one does not keep His Commandments. Yet so few realize this fact and therein lies the biggest obstacle to true love which is so simply laid out in step twenty-seven That Virtue Called Love

    Often overshadowed by her more famous brother St. Benedict, good St. Scholastica had a way of dealing with the head of great Order he founded. The well-known story of St. Scholastica, knowing she was going to die soon but not able to put in proper words to her brother, called upon God to open the floodgates in response to her prayers with rain when it was as clear as the stars outside. The torrents prevented Benedict from returning to his monastery and for the next three days they remained together, speaking of things of Heaven and the subsequent sight of the dove lifting toward Heaven upon her death. John Gregory provides insight into this for her feast, calling upon the account of Pope St. Gregory VII, the Benedictine monk Hildebrand, as recorded in The Liturgical Year by the Benedictine Abbot Dom Prosper Gueranger.           In chapter twenty-one we discover the words of the glorious Virgin to her daughter on how Christ was taken down from the cross as she confides her own bitterness and sweetness at the passion of her Son in a verbal Pieta of Mary's inner feelings. Then our Lady illustrates how the soul is symbolized by a virgin and the love of the world and the love of God by two youths, and finally the qualities the soul should have as a virgin.     The good holy Doctor of the Church St. Cyril of Alexandria would be so saddened to see the total upheaval of his beloved Alexandria today, but then that very cataclysm began two centuries after his death and the Muslim curse remains there today, threatening to expand globally. This He was the Patriarch of Egypt. He is known for defending "Theotokos" - the dogma of Mary as Mother of God. As many bishops in the early centuries, he was used and duped by the Arian prelates, but the Holy Ghost won out and rather than caving to the heretics, this Doctor became one of holy Mother Church's staunchest defenders and presided over the Third Ecumenical Council - the Council of Ephesus; a manifestation taht the last shall be first for this man who was once deposed, was invited to represent the Sovereign Pontiff at the council of Ephesus. He stood tall when all about him were caving to heresy, mainly because of his sincere unyielding devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, honoring her as Christ asks us to honor His Mother. Like the Prodigal Son, he repented of having taken part in the persecution of St. John Chrysostom and made amends, joining with the golden voice in condemning the heresies of Arianism and Nestorianism. Saint Cyril was made a Doctor of the Church by Pope Leo XIII in 1883 when His Holiness also extended his feast to the universal Church. Feast of St. Cyril of Alexandria and Defender of Theotokos

       No, the headline above has nothing to do with the movie of the same name, but today we've been programmed to think so because so many have subscribed to placing importance in things that are unimportant in the overall picture of salvation. It is something Dr. Thomas A. Droleskey addressed in his article posted yesterday at Still Nothing Super About the Super Bowl. Lost in the coal of many ideas that have fueled the destruction of the faith and family values, is the diamond he included that we want to highlight here so all will realize what a treasure he has provided in which a concerned Catholic mother puts to pen how her mission in life is to do all in her power to get her offspring to Heaven. No greater love does a mother have than to give her life for her children and most mothers do, but too often the world trumps the maternal wisdom learned at a mother's knee, those times when children learned to pray, to turn to Jesus and His Immaculate Mother and to learn their Baltimore catechism, to understand the concept of First and Last Things, so that they could pass on the holy Faith to their children. Today, that progression is, if you will, a lost art, for satan has so oversaturated minds and hearts, that to adhere to the solid principles taught in their youth is today a conflict with their daily life if they have succumbed to the world, the flesh and the devil. Thanks to Vatican II and the failure of the Church to be the guardian of souls, too many children have and therein the following letter, taken as an excerpt from Dr. Thomas A.
