This past week and weekend Comic-Con invaded San Diego. In case you hadn't heard of what that is, it is a billion-dollar industry spanning every media form in all genres. It's no longer about comic books. Hollywood has taken it over. In fact, there's very little comic about this annual convention that attracts upwards of 150,000 to our fair city, a boost for tourism in these dire economic times. That's fortunate for the industry, unfortunate for residents like yours truly who got caught in the vortex downtown. Bumper-to-bumper traffic, crazy costumed characters everywhere, a virtual zoo of virtual characters and what not. All on a mission, a temporal one.
There is nothing comic about realizing it is a sign of the times that our little chapel will attract a maximum of 80 parishioners to Holy Mass Sunday morning in a county of eight million plus the number above. Think of the percentage and weep. Truer words were never spoken than Our Lord's words in St. Matthew 20: 16, "Many are called, few are chosen."
When I think about it, it is truly overwhelming. Our Lady of Fatima traditional parish in San Diego is the only place in all of San Diego County where the True Presence of Jesus Christ, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity is guaranteed in the Holy Eucharist, and only 80 understand that! It's truly mind-numbing and so sad that the vast, vast majority have rejected the heavenly banquet available to them.
Many within that majority think they have the True Presence in their "eucharistic celebrations" in the numerous conciliar lodges that no more resemble churches as they do museums or modern lofts in Soho or Piccadilly. Most seem oblivious to how much they have been dumbed down as they sway and shimmy, clutching each other's hands and clap in rhythm, moved by the charismatic chimera of conciliar diversity. So far gone are they that they continue to pour more hard-earned earnings into the corrupt conciliar coffers, totally unaware they have thrown pearls before swine.
And speaking of swine, fourteen years before Barack Hussein Obama ever stepped foot in Chicago to become an integral member of the corrupt "Chicago Machine," eight years into the corrupt reign of Cardinal John "Wild Bill" Cody as head man of a million plus Chicago-land Catholics, and a decade before an equally corrupt prelate named Joseph Bernardin would further plunge the Windy City Archdiocese into the sodomite sewer, a movie was released that illustrated the seamy side of Chicago and how vice permeated every echelon and how two grifters took the city by storm; so much so that those taken, in this case, the mobster Doyle Lonnegan, never knew what hit them. The movie? Surely all have seen "The Sting."
And that is exactly what happened to the Church a good decade or so before the film The Sting was released and what exactly is happening today, some thirty-six years later here in the United States for Obama and his czars, under marching orders from those behind the curtain, are trying to pull the sting of all time by convincing Americans that capitalism is bad and that we need more of the kind of wait-until-you-rot service afforded by the DMV and Post Office to control the rest of our lives, to dictate to us what we shall eat, drive, breathe, and believe! They are trying to convince us to surrender to an oligarchy government that will tell us how and where to live...and die.
There is one difference between the revolution of the sixties that was pulled off, called "Vatican II" and the revolution of the One World Order that is in high gear right now, moving like a runaway train. The only way to stop this louche locomotive is to derail it, knock it off track. Thanks to modern technology which was not available 40-50 years ago, we can do something about it.
Think about it. In the sixties, few had read encyclicals of previous Popes unless they studied them in college or were fortunate to have a Denziger in their local library. The Baltimore Catechism was readily available and most thought they knew their faith. Oh, how wrong we were! Oh, we got stung. Did we!
But we were not alone. Growing up a cradle Catholic, we trusted our parish priests implicitly. The good, holy, but strict nuns made sure we knew our p's and q's and did all they could to embed the Baltimore Catechism into our memory as well as the Latin prayers of the Mass for all boys. We were taught to afford a priest and religious the utmost respect, standing whenever a priest entered the room. For a bishop, the few times one would visit, we genuflected to kiss his ring. Always to respect authority and those older than we.
Yes, we were taught to respect our elders for they possessed much wisdom. That is one of the saddest rotten fruits of today. How those who know have been dismissed so cavalierly as if they have nothing to contribute. When one thinks of who holds more knowledge that can be imparted on the true Faith, several come to mind, but Fr. Martin Stepanich, OFM a Canon Lawyer and Doctor of Theology is probably the wisest of them all. He is a ripe 93 years old. We should cherish him as a treasure, seek to pick his mind and catalog a library of his work so that it is not lost to coming generations.
That is one of the saddest things to ponder. Coming generations. Who will lead them? There are so few true priests and many are getting up there in age. Who will take the baton and carry on the true Faith? Right now things look bleak. That is why we endorse Griff Ruby's call for uniting all the Traditional Bishops in Let's Have a Conclave by bringing them together for a Synod and then a right and proper Conclave so that a true Pope can once again resume the Keys of the Kingdom as part of God's ordaining will.
Who would have thought fifty years ago that we would be in the straits we are today? Our Lady tried to warn us several times, just as prophets of the Old Testament tried to warn the Jews. I guess we have to learn the hard way. Oh how far we have fallen. Truly, a lot has changed since October 9, 1958 when His Holiness Pope Pius XII breathed his last.
From antipope Montini eliminating from the College of Cardinals anyone over 80 to anti-establishment Bob Dylan's mantra of not trusting anyone over 30 we have arrived at a time when our own government is openly advocating the elimination of seniors. Should we expect less? After all, that very same year The Sting was released a far, far worse sting was delivered on the Mystical Body of Christ, legalized abortion (read murder) with the passage of Roe vs. Wade.
Lest we forget, less than 40 years before that Martin Niemöller's penned these chilling words of what happened in Nazi Germany to remind us of what is happening right now in our country, fast fading as a capitalist country of freedom and fast embracing a hybrid slave state built on the shifting sands of communism and fascism in an actual oligarchy of the devil:
They came first for the foreigners, And I didn't speak up because I wasn't a foreigner;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew;
And then... they came for me... And by that time there was no one left to speak for me."
So also today,
They came first for the innocent unborns, And I didn't speak up because, well, I was afraid to rock the boat or anger the pro-aborts;
And then they came for our freedoms, and, well I was too enthralled with Obama-speak and gullible to the mindcontrol of the mass media;
And then they came for the Christians, And I didn't speak up because, well, they brought it on themselves and I didn't want to seem like a homophobe;
And then...they came for me...And by that time, I was only a number; a number that had been counted out, both on this earth and in Heaven.
Ouch! But that is what is happening today with so much apathy and lukewarmness.
Had Catholics had the technology we have today, one wonders if Vatican II would ever have seen the light of day with instant messaging, twittering, what have you. However, as pointed out, we were all flying blind back then, thinking the ones we trusted were doing right by God. Little did we know. But we do know today and, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. We're wise to the deceptors such as Obama and his commie clan. Thanks to alternative media, there are several grass roots movements to penetrate the Pravda propaganda put forth by the major networks and compromised newsprint that refuses to tell you about the venomous elephant in the room.
Didn't know pachyderms could be poisonous? There are a lot of things we didn't know, but we're finding them out. Yet so many remain in total denial, even when proof is provided. It is no secret what is going on, many antichrists are paving the way for thee antichrist. Oh, we're close, folks. And we deserve whatever chastisement God deigns to deliver upon us to bring us back to why we are on this earth. You know why, "God made us to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him for ever in Heaven."
For most, this isn't going to happen until they throw off the shackles of satan and return to the only source of salvation, Jesus Christ through the only Church He established on earth and without true membership in, there is no salvation. Again, one can see the tragic irony of what Our Lord said in St. Luke 18: 8, "But yet, when the Son of man cometh, shall He find, think you, faith on earth?"
Yesterday's and today's Epistle and Gospel spell out what we must do beyond being in good stead inside the holy Catholic Church. St. Paul addressed the Romans with the reality that "We are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh; for if you live according to the flesh, you shall die but if by the Spirit you mortify the deeds of the flesh, you shall live. For whoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For you have not received the spirit of bondage again in fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption of sons, whereby we cry, Abba (Father). For the Spirit Himself giveth testimony to our spirit, that we are the sons of God and if sons, heirs also heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ."
Had Catholics truly lived by these words from the sixties on, abortion would not have seen the light of day nor would contraception have gained such a foothold. Think of how many souls would have been saved, how many more souls would have been born and what they might have accomplished. We will never know because God's ordaining will was not fulfilled. Rather, His permitting will has allowed us to sink into the depths, into the bondage of the devil. That is why there is much fear of what Obama's agenda portends for those who have not received the Spirit to realize we are indeed heirs of God.
For those of us truly in the state of Sanctifying Grace, we have nothing to fear provided we remain in such a state. How? The Gospel tells us quite clearly, including today's Gospel in St. Luke 16: 1-9 in which Christ reminds us to be good stewards, not to waste our God-given talents and to be generous with our talents as well as time and treasure for, yes, folks, you can't take it with you. In fact, the less you have accrued, the less the burden you will have to shed at Purgatory's gate.
It seems St. Paul and Our Lord broach a subject most seem to ignore, especially in traditional circles, and that would be almsgiving. Jesus admonishes us that when we do not give of ourselves, give of our treasures, we are wasting our stewardship. Considering how few contribute to this ministry which can officially be termed an entity at poverty's door, as well as most of the rest of the traditional ministries, causes and chapels, we can see Traditional Catholics have a lot of work ahead of them to account for their stewardship by giving of their wealth to those who seek to spread the Gospel and save souls.
To those who give, who live by what Christ asks and remain in the state of Grace, they have nothing to fear from whatever the world, the flesh and the devil have in store in the future. For those who have squandered their goods, selfishly refusing to tithe or contribute to causes that promote the sure-fire way to Heaven, well, they have much to fear. For as Jesus illustrates in the Gospel for the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost, His backhanded compliment is not a compliment at all, but a condemnation of a lifestyle that He says will profit nothing for misery loves company and one only need remember His words, "Make unto you friends of the mammon of iniquity, that when you shall fail, they may receive you into everlasting dwellings."
Mammon of iniquity. The Haydock Commentary for this passage cites, "Mammon signifies riches. They are here called the mammon of iniquity, because oftentimes ill-gotten, ill-bestowed, or an occasion of evil; and at the best are but worldly, and false: and not the true riches of a Christian. They may receive. By this we see, that the poor servants of God, whom we have relieved by our alms, may hereafter, by their intercession, bring our souls to Heaven. (C) They may receive you into their eternal tabernacles. What a beautiful thought this! What a consolation to the rich man, when the terms of his mortal existence is approaching, to think he shall have as many advocates to plead for his admittance into the eternal mansions of rest, as he has made friends among the poor by relieving their temporal wants. The rich give to the poor earthly treasures, the latter return in recompense eternal and infinite happiness. Hence we must infer, that the advantage is all on the side of the giver; according to the saying of our Lord, happier is the condition of him who gives, than of him who receives."
True to those words, those receiving donations and gifts, do indeed return the favor with many, many prayers for the spiritual welfare of the donors. To indicate how few contribute to The DailyCatholic, at every Mass in the Memento Prayer for the Living following the una cum omnibus orthodoxis atque catholicae, et apostolicae fidei cultoribus, we remember each of our benefactors by name. Yes, you caught the drift, the list isn't that long and those who have been so faithfully giving are also facing financial hardships with the present economy. That means others need to pick up the slack, to be good stewards and contribute of your wealth lest you might be cast out like the unjust steward of the Gospel which is possible if stung by the wiles of the world, the flesh and the devil.
Another thought to ponder, as the situation grows worse, (and it will, as you can see at The Obama Deception for the One World Order formed by the Bilderberg Group, Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relationsis no conspiracy, but reality) is that satan will do all he can to further divide Traditional Catholics, do all he can to prevent the conversion of conciliar Catholics back to the True Church, do all he can to confuse souls and cast suspicions upon others, causing doubts and trying to induce despair.
That is why we must all have faith and hope and express such in charity. We must have faith that there are enough caring, considerate and generous Traditional Catholics out there to help keep publications like The DailyCatholic on line. We can only hope the message of this Sunday's Gospel sinks in enough for you to realize you can make the difference. Remember Christ's words about "many are called"? The question to ask is if not you, who?
Comic-Con is wrapping up, but our work is just beginning even as we head next week into our annual Summer Hiatus. Whether we come back on a regular basis is basically up to you. Depending on what we can raise to keep this ministry going will be gaged on your generosity. It's no joke, we are truly on poverty's doorstep and have been getting by on a shoestring. But that shoestring is unraveling, worn and will snap soon just as our Windows 98 system snapped earlier this year. If you don't believe us, walk in our shoes for a few days or a week. Only through the heroic efforts of Griff, were we able to save all the files and continue on-line almost seamlessly. Yet those seams are presently frayed and a restitching is needed, an embroidery of cataloging that we have not been able to afford in a necessary tuneup to provide cross-referencing and help readers and web-surfers to quickly access files. We urgently invite you to go to Donate to the Cause and give what you can or click the button below. The future of The DailyCatholic is in your hands now.
Returning to the last lines in The Sting the late Paul Newman's character Henry Gondorff asks the kid, Johnny Hooker, played by a young Robert Redford, "You not gonna stick around for your share?"
Hooker replied. "Nah. I'd only blow it." Will we blow our stewardship? Will we be good guardians of the Faith and Country? The future of both is in your hands. We can make a difference by saying no to anything that goes against God's laws for we must remember the holy Doctor of the Church St. Robert Cardinal Bellarmine's words, "Unjust laws are, properly speaking, NO LAWS!" If we remember that, we can pretty much be assured we're on the right track in resisting the One World Order and contribute to the buzz that what Obama and his Demoncrats have tried to ramrod through as law is wrong before God and man. If we can do that, and keep the Faith, we'll get our share in the reward of eternal life and avoid being stuck permanently by The Sting.
