Missa "Os justi"
St. John Baptist de la Salle was canonized by Pope Leo XIII, who also extended
the observance of his feast to the Universal Church. His place in
ecclesiastical history is chiefly important from the social point of view.
since at least two centuries before world changes rendered necessary the
education of the masses, and before technical schools had gained for
themselves the all-important place in the training of the young which had up
till then been held exclusively by classical teaching, God gave him an
intuition of this need as though by a prophetic vision. St. John Baptist de
la Salle, answering the divine call, resigned his honorable position as a
canon of Rheims, and, overcoming much opposition and many difficulties,
founded the Society of the Brothers of Christian Schools, which still is
productive of so much good throughout the Church.
He died at Rouen on Good Friday, April 7, 1719, at the age of 68.
Today is Rogation Tuesday. The
Station for the second Rogation day is at St. John Lateran in Rome. Earthquakes and other calamities afflicted the diocese of Vienne in Dauphiné (France) in the fifth century, and St. Mamertus, who was bishop of that diocese, instituted a penitential procession with public supplications on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before Ascension Day. In 816, Pope Leo III introduced it into Rome, and soon after it became a general observance throughout the Church. The Litany of the Saints, the psalms and prayers sung during the procession on these days are supplications: hence the name of Rogation days (rogare, to ask) applied to them. The object of these "rogation” supplications is to appease the anger of God and avert the scourges of His justice, and to pray for the harvest. With such blasphemous works like The Da Vinci Code poisoning society, we need to offer these prayers to appease the obvious and just wrath of the Father.

confessor, and, through him, didst gather a new family within Thy Church,
mercifully grant that, by his intercession and example, fervent in zeal for
Thy glory and the salvation of souls, we may be enabled to become sharers of
