Month of the Sacred Passion
MONDAY     February 20, 2006      Volume 17, no. 38

Though we are a few days late (for it actually started on February 18), we present the 30-Day Prayer to Saint Joseph in preparation for his feast day, which this year will be March 20th because the normal feast falls on the Third Sunday of Lent. We present this in our devotional series of The Sanity of Sanctity which will run from now until March 20th. To complement the beginning of this Prayer/Novena we present inspiration from Father James F. Wathen who, even while recuperating from his devastating illness, continues to nurture us with the Truths and Traditions of Holy Mother Church and his encouraging words are just that today for it should bolster the hopes and resolve of every Catholic to stay the course. That is the essence of his article today on planting the seed - the word of God and letting God take control. Father shows how this is done as he takes us through Our Lord's words in Matthew 10: 34-42 to better illustrate what love really means.

  • Planting Seeds of Love and Truth
    by Fr. James F. Wathen

    •    Despite a dismal track record that proves there can be no fruit in or with the conciliar church, many traditionalists still actually believe Benedict XVI is going to right the ship. Sadly, they have fallen for the rhetorical rhetoric that says volumes in its ambiguity. With every report we can see the obvious: the modernists of Vatican II are the very ones Christ speaks of in the Gospel for Sexagesima Sunday:

"The seed is the word of God. And they, by the way side, are they that hear ; then the devil cometh, and taketh the word out of their heart, lest believing, they should be saved...and that which fell among thorns: are they who have heard, and going their way, are choked with the cares and riches, and pleasures of this life, and yield no fruit" (Luke 8: 11-12, 14).

Because the news and rumors ebb and sway with each news report daily, we provide alternate sources above in order to be - to quote a certain network - "fair and balanced" with the various news-sites NovusOrdoWatch.org, Traditio.com, and Angelqueen, as well as the official SSPX site in case they publish anything of landmark importance. We do so as a service in the same manner The Daily Catholic strives to give both sides of the story when it comes to Traditional issues.

One thing we want to caution all sides and that is Christian charity and not to set themselves up as experts. Too many are rushing to judgment on both sides of the coin and what is being forgotten in the equation is prayer, and a reminder not to ever, ever trust the devil. For that reason, we at The Daily Catholic hope the Society is sincere when they say no compromise will be made. The best advice comes from the Epistle of Saint Paul who says:

"I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, Who shall judge the living and the dead, by His coming and His kingdom: preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine. For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears, and will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. Be thou vigilant, labor in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry. Be sober" (2 Timothy 4: 3-7).

Again we repeat: The whole thing comes down to one constant none of us should ever forget: If you always tell the truth, you're bulletproof. Let us pray for all sides - including the modernist apostates that they will realize the key is the doctrine and disavow Vatican II and all the garbage that came with it. Let us also pray for those such as the SSPX boldly going into the enemy's lair. Before they would ever take the plunge and fall prey to the trap being laid by the conciliarists, listen for the quack because if it sounds like a duck, looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it's most probably a duck. So, as a prayerful caution to the leaders of the Society, watch your head and your backside. In other words: Duck!

For those who may not have been keeping up daily with The Daily Catholic, here's what you just might have missed over the past week. Last Sunday Father Louis Campbell emphasized that to run the race for an incorruptible crown we need to condition ourselves in body, mind and soul and not be ruled by feelings and emotions in his sermon "With what measure you measure". On Monday Griff Ruby clearly showed why it is time to exorcise the "spirit" of Vatican II with The Council and its Spirit. Tuesday editor Michael Cain pinpointed the greatest Love Letter ever given, one that reaffirms daily God's love for us with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in his commentary Fight on with love, Agape Love! Regular columnist Gabriel Garnica provided two pieces that resonate obedience to God in his first installment on Virtue & Vice with Ten Beats Seven Every Time and earlier in the week "According to Your Faith..." in which he emphasized the need to leave our comfort zone and rough it in the world by willingly carrying our cross. John Gregory completed his meditations on the Joyful Mysteries with The Finding of the Child Jesus in illustrating how the passage of Luke 2: 42-52 gives us a hint of what Mary might have "pondered in her heart" during all that time in Nazareth. Finally to put everything into perspective on all that is going down in the on-again off-again SSPX and modern Rome "reconciliation", we brought you The Mountains of Gelboe written 12 years ago by Bishop Donald Sanborn who was in on the ground floor and shows clearly how it is deja vu all over again!

In keeping with Christ's assurance in Matthew 7: 19 that "Every tree that yieldeth not good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire" the disintegration of the Protestant-Masonic-Pagan man-made church is inevitable. The collapse of this synthetic pan-christian religion spawned from Vatican II, which has usurped the True Roman Catholic Church, is evident from the news reports below, the feature articles to the right, our EyeOpeners highlighting certain news stories, and the realization of what the True Church truly teaches on our CREDO & CULTURE Page, and especially in the infrangible Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the true Liturgy for each day of the Church's liturgical year, which we provide daily for readers with the Ordinary and Proper of each Mass in both Latin and English so Catholics may truly continue to practice their Faith and truly KNOW THE FAITH in order to KEEP THE FAITH! Tried and True! Tridentine True!

And, speaking of looking back, we were proud to have shared a sample of some of the best articles of 2005: Sixty of them!

  • Making Sense of Sensus Catholicus
Father James F. Wathen, the pioneering traditional author of The Great Sacrilege, both looks back at the theme of St. Valentine's Day and the Gospel for Septuagesima as well as the Gospel for Sexagesima Week in showing what love truly is - the Word of God and how we, as Christ's instruments plant the seed and allow these seeds to bloom wherever we plant them. Father consoles the traditional Catholic who has been abandoned by friend, family and foe because of their love for Christ and His unadulterated Truths which cannot change. Father points out that He is the God of consolation, and not to seek the consolations of God in this life for He will reward us for whatever we do. Father remarks that in planting the seed to do just that and not to force it or bruise the fruit; after all we are not "closing a deal" but setting the table, if you will for the Holy Ghost to take over. He explains in his essay on Matthew 10: 34-42 in sharing the seed - the Word of God - in Planting the seeds of Love and Truth

    "Qui legit, intelligat"
In Father Louis Campbell's sermon for Sexagesima Sunday, he points out that the actions being taken by the conciliar church, most notably Benedict XVI and one of his leading heretics Walter Kasper, are the very example of what Our Lord speaks of in today's Gospel wherein "the devil cometh and taketh the word out of their heart" for that is what has happened to the hierarchy and subsequently those who have blindly followed them toward perdition over the past 40 plus years. They have abandoned the good seed and fertile ground because they have forsaken the roots of the Truths and Traditions of Holy Mother Church. They have fallen by the wayside and taken up with those sects founded by men who were apostates, including all the Protestant heretics whose leaders are encamped in the hopeless World Council of Churches to which Ratzinger and Kasper have given their blessings because, as Jesus affirms in Luke 8, they "are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and yield no fruit." Father documents this very fact by showing that the words and actions are a direct contradiction to what Holy Mother Church has always taught and so clearly defined by Pope Pius XI in his encyclical condemning false ecumenism which is what the WWC is. In fact, their new logo embodies the subliminal spirit of satan with the form of a snake at the bottom of a letter that depicts a 'Z'. What could the Z stand for but for Zionism for the Masonic Zionist agenda has been fully embraced as the message of the newchurch. Welcome, indeed, to the lair of the devil, so blatantly obvious in The Medium and the Message
    Gabriel's Clarion
Gabriel Garnica begins today a series on Virtue and Vice with the first part establishing the very fact that nothing, absolutely nothing trumps the Ten Commandments of God. In this time of mass confusion where even the elect have been so deceived, the devil will try to twist anything and everything, one must always go back to basics and there is nothing more basic than the Ten Commandments. God said it, that settles it. Yet, so many gamble on thinking they have a better idea. The problem is, man, in his fallen human nature, keeps betting against God and His House - His holy Church; not a good idea because those who have done so always lose not only their shirt, but their soul as well. The result is always the same: spiritual bankruptcy. No matter how one calculates it, as Gabriel explains Ten Beats Seven Every Time
    Miters that Matters
In order to clarify what is exactly going on between the SSPX and modern Rome, it is wise to review the history of the modernists in dealing with the Society and so we publish an article written by His Excellency Bishop Donald J. Sanborn twelve years ago which pinpoints the same modus operandi by the modernists and the Society in this round. He foretold then exactly what would happen today and he has history on his side. Speaking of history, he uses the analogy of the revenge of the Phillistines (modernists) versus the Israelites (true Catholics = traditionalists and the SSPX) to bring home his point all the more forcefully in reminding all that if we don't learn from history we will be doomed to repeat it. Is the Society doing just that? Read this published at traditionalmass.org to see what His Excellency knows from first hand experience for he was there on the ground floor with Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in the early days. He explains in his article The Moutains of Gelboe
    Faithful To Tradition
John Gregory completes his comprehensive meditation on the Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary today on the Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple. It is the last time we hear anything from Jesus or Mary until His public life. That is 18 years of silence of the Holy Family's private life. In this mystery John illustrate how the passage of Luke 2: 42-52 gives us a hint of what Mary might have "pondered in her heart" during all that time in Nazareth. He also provides insight to a mother's heart and the volumes told in the first words by our Lord recorded in Sacred Scripture that laid the groundwork for what He was about to do: His Father's business. John shares meditative thoughts on this interesting Mystery in The Fifth Joyful Mystery: The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple
    Gabriel's Clarion
During this Time of Septuagesima, Gabriel Garnica helps prepare us for the coming Lenten season by tweaking our consciences on how much we seek comfort and turn our backs on our crosses that we should willingly carry in order to be Christ's disciples. Often times we can be blinded to this and use this as a convenient excuse to stay put in whatever comfort zone has become familiar to us. Are we afraid to step out and see with the eyes of Faith. We can only do this by conditioning ourselves to reject comfort and get with the program of the spiritual boot camp of penance, self-sacrifice and self-denial and a steady life of prayer. Exercising our spiritual life will better enable us to be in harmony with the will of God and then, only then, will we be able to see clearly through the Eyes of Christ. Gabriel explains in his column "According to Your Faith..."
    Catholic PewPOINT

Editor Michael Cain pinpoints Saint Valentine's Day as an ideal time to speak of love; not the love that is so prevalent in our media and society today and poisons the meaning of true love in so many hearts and souls, but the love that transcends all other love: God's Love. On this day when hearts are aflutter and seen everywhere so colorfully, our hearts will continue to beat restlessly, as St. Augustine says, until "they rest in Thee." There is one Love Letter that is constant and ever-refreshing, never waning but ever increasing in grace and dividends for eternal treasures. No love letter can compare to the perpetual Love Letter we have available to us - the infrangible Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Cain explains in his commentary about the spiritual elixers of this divinely given love potion that is guaranteed to work if we are willing to pay the price for striving for perfection by disciplining our concupiscences and cooperate with God's graces. He explains in Fight on with love, Agape Love!

    The STRAIGHT STUFF
Griff Ruby brings the reader an insight on why Benedict's supposed wishes to restore the Latin Mass are just the tip of the iceberg in doing the right thing before God. Today Benedict XVI meets with his curia to discuss, among other matters, what kind of concessions modern Rome could 'give' the Society of Saint Pius X in erasing the conciliar church's blackballing of Archbishop Lefebvre. Before he even begins to broach the subject with his curia, which are not expected to be very receptive, Benedict has to realize it's not just the Mass that needs to be restored to all its beauty as it was in 1958, but it is the Council and all that followed that needs to be shelved, lock, stock and barrel; in other words, exorcised of its 'spirit' that has haunted souls for well over 40 years. Griff explains in his column The Council and its Spirit

    "Qui legit, intelligat"
In Father Louis Campbell's sermon for Septuagesima Sunday, he lends a voice of reason and calm to a world gone mad; whether it be maniacal Muslims mobbing the streets throughout three continents supposedly incensed over the silly excuse of a cartoon in a seemingly harmless Danish newspaper to liberalist factions badmouthing conservative camps and vice versa in politics, religion and, yes, even in traditional circles. The devil is stirring up hate everywhere and it is easy to get caught up in the wave of emotion. But that is not living as a true Catholic and Father warns us to apply the brakes on our feelings and remember Christ's words to love our enemy and do good to them who do us evil. We don't have to like our enemy, but we must love them and the best way to love anyone who might foster hate in our heart is to lay our sinful heart in the Most Sacred and Immaculate Hearts and ask Jesus to wash our sins and our human feelings of anxiety and antipathy in and by His Most Precious Blood during this month of the Most Sacred Passion as we begin the Season of Septuagesima. We cannot be pure of heart unless we condition ourselves to reign in our emotions and trust through Faith to always do His holy Will as we Hope for God's mercy through the trusting Sacrament of Penance, combined with prayer and self-denial in order for our Charity to grow, so that indeed we can be numbered among His chosen ones from the many who have been called. Father explains in his sermon. "With what measure you measure"
    Gabriel's Clarion
In honor of today's 148th Anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes, Gabriel Garnica shares one of the greatest love letters we could send Jesus and Mary - the Angelic Salutation: The Hail Mary. He presents this perfect prayer and why it is so perfect, why it embodies all that God wanted to impart in the Dogma of Mary as Advocate, CoRedemptrix, and Mediatrix of all graces. This praye rsays it all and in the simple Ave Maria we express our love for and dependence on Jesus and Mary and, because of our sincerity, They hear and answer our prayers as God so deigns, not necessarily what we want. That is the beauty of the prayer for it was not necessarily what Mary wanted when she said "Yes" to the Archangel Gabriel, but "Thy will be done." Gabriel points to how the first part of the prayer is of honor and praise and comes from Holy Writ, while the second part is our plea to Mary for her intercession and to help us reach the Heavenly shore, thus acknowledging Her role in redemption. Gabriel explains in his column for this special Double Major feast with The Ave's Have It
    Symphony of Suffering
In preparation for the Time of Septuagesima this weekend, Cyndi Cain presents a poignant piece, short and sweet but to the point. She shares with all a recent letter received from a solitary, sincere prisoner and his heartfelt sacrifice. His words should shake all of us to take seriously Christ's charge to feed His sheep and be good stewards of His wilting vineyard. So many of us take for granted that others are providing the financial assistance to help non-profit traditional apostolates such as SANCTUS and The Daily Catholic, and assuming such, many take the free ride, logging on often with nary a thought of the expense it takes to put out a publication of this caliber. The fact that a destitute inmate is willing to give his entire monthly stipend that others can hear the truth should shame every reader to examine their conscience and ask themselves if they are doing enough to help, not only this apostolate, but their local traditional priest, traditional community and traditional publications/sources which focus on the unmitigated Catholic Truth and stand as uncompromising bright beacons of hope that the True Faith will be preserved and more souls saved in a swirling secular sea that has so twisted the truth. Cyndi puts it so succinctly in her letter about a letter "Lord, Remember me...".
    Faithful to Tradition
In preparation for Lent, John Gregory resumes his series on deciphering what is Catholic and what is not Catholic today. To those who truly know the Faith, it should be only too obvious. Sadly, due to the fact so many do not, they are blinded by the secular spin. Nowhere is this more noticeable than in today's mores and culture in which modesty takes a holiday as one wades through a jungle of temptations day in and day out in the workplace and elsewhere. Custody of the eyes, ears and mouth can go a long way in curbing concupiscence, but knowing why one must strive for purity of body, mind and soul is the key to attaining true happiness. The devil will do all he can to prevent one from understanding this and lure souls away through rationalization and gratification. He knows what he offers is fleeting and leads to residence with him. The question John asks is whether the reader realizes that? John offers advice that is in accord with Church teaching on curbing our appetites by avoiding the near occasions of sin lest we fall into temptation and the clutches of the devil who never sleeps. John lays out the guidelines in his second installment on Modesty in Part Two of The Devil Never Sleeps.
    Doctors of the Church
Today is the Double Feast of Saint Cyril of Alexandria and so, reaching back to the summer of 2002, we bring you a Gems from the Past reduct of a profile of this eleventh Doctor of the Church chronologically. Saint Cyril was considered the "Defender of Theotokos" - the dogma of Mary as Mother of God. As many bishops in the early centuries, he was used and duped by the Arian prelates, but the Holy Ghost won out and rather than caving to the heretics, this Doctor became one of Holy Mother Church's staunchest defenders and presided over the Third Ecumenical Council - the Council of Ephesus. He stood tall when all about him were caving to heresy, mainly because of his sincere unyielding devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, honoring her as Christ asks us to honor His Mother. Serving as the Patriarch of Alexandria and effectively squashing Nestorianism, Saint Cyril has become known in Church annals as the holy Doctor of the Church also called the Defender of Theotokos
    Gabriel's Clarion
The Annual UGLIES Awards are just around the corner and Gabriel Garnica informs the reader about a candidate who could well be in the running. True to the name of the region where liberals abound north of the Golden Gate, a progressive polyanna by the name of Carol Marin has taken Chicago by storm and therein is the warning for this Chicago-based 'Catholic' Journalist is the Poster Child for What Ails the Church. From the city with broad shoulders - Frank Sinatra's kind of town, Chicago - Marin wields her media might. Like the lyrics of one of Sinatra's songs, Carol Marin has done it her way, rejecting the dogmatic teachings of Holy Mother Church to advance the liberal agenda which embraces abortion and sodomy. She attacks Judie Brown's ALL organization for taking Illinois Senator Dick Durbin to task for not living his Catholic faith. Evidently it also struck a chord in Marin's conscience or she wouldn't have been so quick to not only counter attack, but even bait the President into partaking in the propaganda project of 2006: Brokeback Mountain. Why is it that Mel Gibson's critics have turned out to be the promoters of queer porn? Gabriel shares the answers in his column An ill Wind Blows in the Windy City
    The STRAIGHT STUFF
Griff Ruby focuses on the one target that remains fair game to anyone who wants to take potshots with whatever weapons they have, no holds barred. It is all about adhering to authority; not authority formed by man, but that founded and elevated by God. Down through the ages, the One Authority of the Church Jesus Christ established has stood alone as the one most persecuted. This Authority, suffering the slings and arrows from those who think man has a better idea, has remained steadfast despite its attackers who have continued to turn a blind eye to the eyes of Faith by aiming at the bullseye of Truth. In their heart, the apostate archers know they're wrong, but still they fire away at True Catholicism. Yes, the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church remains the only target that is fair game to assault. Why is it that the only ones who respect this Authority, namely the Traditional Bishops, are most cautious in overstepping their boundaries? The Answer: Total respect and awe for what Christ has established. The SSPX bishops would do well to remember that before letting down their guard or giving away the store. Griff explains in his column on Authority
    Catholic PewPOINT
The 40th Super Bowl and all the useless commerce accompanying it are yesterday's news, but still the frogs continue to wallow on the stove, allowing the conciliar chefs to turn up the heat. What us worry? Not when we continue to be dulled into bobbing 'yes' toads to whatever Modern Rome wants. Editor Michael Cain sounds the siren to all on the hotstove. If you don't take action soon, it's going to be too late. He equates the mediocrity of the game and commercials to our acceptance of anything but excellence, including compromising our doctrines to please man. Who would have thought the Society of St. Pius X would ever have even considered such a thought? But that is what more and more we fear as confirmation continues to surface as to Benedict XVI's invite to the SSPX: "Come into the parlor" said the spider to the fly. It does not bode well for the traditional movement but it is exactly what Modern Rome has in mind: Divide and conquer. They will too if the frogs who should know better don't start realizing that it's getting too hot for anyone to even consider staying in the conciliar kitchen for soon, very soon, the fahrenheit will reach The Boiling Point!
    "Qui legit, intelligat"
In Father Louis Campbell's sermon for the Fifth Sunday After Epiphany, he gets down to basics in warning about what our Lord warned of in His parable of the enemy sower of cockle amongst the wheat. Father points out that because the conciliar church - the false religion that has eclipsed the True Church - has not been been a good gardener of souls and actually has been an accomplice in planting the bad seeds, an unbelievable abundance of wheat has withered, choked off from grace over the past half century. Only with the protective garment of grace can one fend off the sharp barbs of compromise with the contemporary 'values' the world has embraced today. If souls are not careful, these prickly thorns of sin pierce the shield of grace and make a soul vulnerable to the bland - the lukewarmness that will condemn souls per the Lord's wake up call in Apocalypse 3: 15-16. The result: the ravages of hell, sucking in the poisonous pollen of worldly things that make the wheat more vulnerable to infection that brings about total corruption. If we want to assure that our stalks will grow stronger and stay pure in this field of suffocating cockle, we must ignore the lure of the world, the flesh and the devil and remember Him Who suffered and died for us and never take our eyes off that Prize. Truly the "wages of sin are death" and if we do not uncompromisingly put our stock on Him Who conquered death and sin, we will fall prey to the weeds and become slaves to the enemy who oversowed the cockle among the wheat. Father explains in his sermon. The Good, the Bad, and the Bland
    Gabriel's Clarion
While the masses are preparing for Super Sunday and most missing Holy Mass, Gabriel Garnica digs beneath the hype to not only explain the strategy that football fans understand, but to take it a step further in laying out the game plan for the real "Super" Bowl. XL is the Roman Numeral of Sunday's Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Forty Years! While the NFL has had unprecedented temporal success, God's Mystical Bride has suffered the slings and arrows of apostasy for 4 decades. But in the end, the XL size of God's mercy will deliver His Church from the grip of the world, the flesh and the devil. Now that will be Super! With Christ calling the plays, sent in by the Holy Ghost and fortified by the defensive stalwart of the Truths and Traditions of Holy Mother Church, our opponent is much more formidable than any human foe. Gabriel shares the metaphor of the gridiron battle for souls, beginning with our own in preserving Tradition and keeping the Faith. He explains in his column The Only Super Bowl That Counts
    Making Sense of Sensus Catholicus
Father James F. Wathen, the pioneering traditional author of The Great Sacrilege, shares some questions from an e-mailer and makes no bones about the fact that the traditional answers must never be ambiguous or patronizing, but always express the unadulterated truth. He enunciates in black and white the certain answers that many may not have heard before about tackles questions about the Indult, 'Natural Family Planning', and why attending the Novus Ordo even for funerals or weddings is wrong because it recognizes the sacrilege that gravely offends God. These and a few other questions from a curious e-mailer compose the body of his article for this week as he continues to recuperate and pray. Father answers the queries in his article this week we have called In Defense of the Deposit of the Faith
    Faithful To Tradition
John Gregory continues his comprehensive meditation on the Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary presenting today, on this Feast of both the Presentation of the Child Jesus and the Purification of His Blessed Mother in the Temple, that marvelous mystery of obedience and submission to the law in total humility. John illustrates a renewed perspective of Mary's role in salvation in how her life parallels her holy obedience to all God has asked. Though her divine Child would be submissive to her as an obedient, loving Son for the next 30 years, it was here, 40 days after His birth that Mary followed the letter of the Jewish Law not only to present Him to the Jews as the Messiah, so recognized by Simeon, but also for Mary to obediently go through the rite of purification in the eyes of man - though she already was the purest vessel ever created by the Almighty, free of original sin. In a sense, for the rest of us born with Original Sin, her submission was the precursor for the Sacrament of Penance. The Fourth Joyful Mystery: The Presentation

"Unjust laws are, properly speaking, NO LAWS!"
His Eminence Saint Robert Cardinal Bellarmine, Doctor of the Church
