Left Their Souls in San Francisco
Part Nine of
CATHOLIC IDENTITY CRISIS IN THE USA
The Golden Gate may beckon tourists, but it is also symbolic of the road many have taken in Sodom by the Bay. So many from the apostate mayor to a pro-homosexual city council, from lukewarm archbishops to the radical nuns, priests, and parishioners, from the secular media to the strong sodomite and pro-choice presence have all disdained the narrow path, opting to follow that wide path strewn with roses which leads to eternal damnation.
"Just as human sacrifice and idolatry were practiced in ancient cities, San Francisco is a center of everything from abortion to feminism to sodomy. In fact, this weekend they are holding the national convention of atheists in this city. The famous cable cars may streak across its streets, but this city has long ago gotten off its moral track, derailing its spiritual and religious roots in the mire of modern, secular, and New Age trappings. If Alcatraz was once an island prison with no escape, then this city is now a moral prison which does not wish to escape its captors. If the currents of the Bay are so powerful and unstoppable, then the moral currents of this city's spiritual demise have likewise carried many to their moral Alcatraz. Not far away one finds the wine country, but this wine has long ago ceased to be the blood of Christ and is now the intoxicating elixir of moral chaos. Not far away one finds the Redwoods, but those giant masterpieces of the Creator pale in the shadow of the stacks of immorality that billows from the famous city nearby. Not far away one finds Reno, but San Francisco has long ago gambled its moral integrity with the devil and lost. It may have Lombard Street - the most crooked street in the world, but it is its moral code that is most crooked."
San Francisco is a beautiful city in an equally beautiful bay, but that beauty is only based on visible, material, secular, earthly traits. Like so much of California its history bursts with connections to the Catholic faith, to the work of missionaries harvesting souls for salvation, and to religious names and origins. Tragically, also like California, this City By The Bay has sunk into the sea of perdition and sin that has spread throughout that state like so many Redwood fires have done so in the past.
It is quite ironic that this city named after one of the greatest saints to grace Heaven paradoxically stands for both the opposite and the distorted versions of what the great St. Francis of Assisi stood for. While he rejected the trappings of wealth and the vice of materialism in favor of a sacred and holy poverty, this city has rejected the embrace of spiritual treasures and the favor of God in exchange for a vile moral poverty. While Francis honored the environment as an expression of God's creative power, this city honors the environment as a god unto itself via its New Age connections. While Francis dedicated his life to obeying God's Will and Word, this city has dedicated itself to ignoring, twisting, and mocking that Will and Word. While Francis praised his God amid sacred canticles, music, and poetry, this city praises the devil amid its New Age, rock, drug-culture, and rebellious roots. While God asked Francis to rebuild His Church in disrepair, this city has dedicated itself to tearing that Church down stone by stone, brick by brick, and building a heathen palace in its place vice by vice, sin by sin, distortion by distortion.
Yes, both Francis and his namesake city have been associated with rebellion from convention, but Francis rebelled toward God and this city has rebelled away from God! Yes, both Francis and this city have dared to be different, but Francis dared to be different as Christ was different in that Our Lord was a Sign of contradiction to the world and this city has dared to be different as the devil is different, becoming a Sign of contradiction to God.
If Francis experienced highs and lows during his life, he remained consistent in his devoted and purposeful faith. If this city has highs and lows amid its uneven streets and urban valleys, those highs and lows pale in comparison to its moral imbalance and inconsistency. If Francis rejected superficial spirituality and the pomp of visible religion, this city has rejected sincere spirituality and the depth of true faith in the true God. Yes, there is great irony between this city and its namesake, but then that irony spreads across a state that has more places named after saints than stars in the sky, yet the stars in the sky show more reverence and respect to God than that state has in years. California is where stars are worshipped, but their glitter wanes for false gods are never eternal. But that is Los Angeles - the City of Angels which one wonders if they are not the fallen angels of Lucifer's realm.
As for San Francisco, this jewel by the Bay offers many things to its many visitors who come seeking the legend they have long heard about. If the Golden Gate Bridge is a wonderful man-made structure that glows in the sun, then this city has become a bridge to tragic man-made vice that glows in sin. If Coit Tower stands as a beacon of a nautical past welcoming sailors from stormy seas, then this city now stands as a beacon of darkness welcoming blasphemy and vice from stormy moral origins. If Twin Peaks offers a panoramic view of the city, then this city's liberal and sodomite peaks offer a panoramic view of perdition. The famous Transamerica Tower stands as a modern pyramid pointing upward, but this pyramid oversees a city where pagan worship is once again alive and well as it was in ancient Egypt. If such pyramids were surrounded by sand, then this one is surrounded by people with sand in their eyes who do not see the abomination that lurks below the shiny, modern, sleek surface. They have built their houses on the sands of shaky ground, ground that next April will be only a century since the great earthquake of April 18, 1906 which left the old San Francisco in ruins. What has been rebuilt from the ashes of the old city is Babylon by the Bay. Hideous before God.

City By The Bay or At Bay?
Given the political, cultural, and social power of its sodomite, feminist, and liberal community, one may rightly ask if San Francisco is a city by a bay or a city at bay.
Where people once knelt before their God in prayer, politicians now kneel before sodomites in political supplication, bowing to their every whim and wish lest their pathetic political careers be sent to that island prison. At a recent service for John Paul II shortly after his death, no elected local or county officials, including the mayor and a number of supervisors, all of whom call themselves Catholics, were present. Neither did any of them send a representative, as would have been proper protocol. One sodomite supervisor even commented that he would be more likely to attend a service at St. Mary's Cathedral if that service was a homosexual marriage!
This sodomite vice-grip on the city is not limited to political areas, of course. The reluctance of the clergy to even attempt to uphold the true teachings of our Faith is legendary there.
What has the Left Left?
It was the crooner Tony Bennett who wrote and sang the song "I Left My Heart in San Francisco", but one has to ask today what have the liberal bishops left their flocks in the Archdiocese of San Francisco? Remember it was the arch-liberal John R. Quinn who took over in 1977 as Archbishop of San Francisco and ran it into the ground with the sodomite movement gaining great speed under his watch. Indeed, San Francisco became more famous for its infamous bathhouses than Haight Ashbury.
Many thought when he retired that the new archbishop William J. Levada would turn things around for he came from Portland with the supposed reputation of being conservative.
But was he? In reading Father Eugene Heidt's take in the book Priest Where Is Thy Mass, Mass Where Is Thy Priest, Levada's conservative leanings were merely a smokescreen for a far more condescending attitude to everything except tradition.
During his nearly ten year tenure as head of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, the pedophile sex scandals have only grown worse and covered up further. During his watch sodomites not only proudly came out of the closet, but flaunted it, and though at times he gave lip service against such behavior, seldom did he ever do anything to upset the homosexual community. He endeavored to be more politically correct than Catholic. And that is the problem with Levada. He is a consummate politician as was evident by his obvious silence to the blasphemous and anathema-ridden behavior of the city's mayor Gavin Newsom who openly defied not only man's state and federal laws,
but The Almighty's moral law.
So a man like Levada, even if he had the best intentions, has been swallowed up by the immoral muck that oozes out of the pores of Sodom by the Bay. He now leaves and one wonders what will the city do to the next prelate who comes in. Will it also overwhelm and swallow the next shepherd into the gaping jaws of hell's malaise? One has to wonder, and one also has to wonder what did Levada do to earn the exalted position of Prefect of the Doctrine of the Faith? As has already been expressed by many, it does not bode well for the Catholic faithful to see yet another example of incompetence being rewarded. I refer you to the fate of Cardinal Bernard Law who had left Boston in tatters and disgrace. His "fate" was to be kicked upstairs to the posh, honorable post as archpriest of St. Mary Major's in Rome with all the perks, pomp and circumstance. What kind of message does that send to people everywhere? It says "continue to cover-up, continue to be politically correct, continue to demolish the True Faith by pandering to every pagan and immoral entity and you will be rewarded." Can you see why there is a Catholic Identity Crisis in the USA? While The Almighty might forgive sin, He never rewards it. But that is what the New Order Church leaders do.
How San Francisco has gone is basically how the church of Vatican II has gone: deeper into lukewarmness, deeper into the morose, deeper into the possibilities of eternal perdition by accommodating sin, even exalting it for fear of offending their fellow man. Think of the consequences; especially so many unsuspecting souls who don't know what is right, do not know what is Catholic teaching any more. Yes, there is definitely a Catholic Identity Crisis and yet, as we've all seen over the last month and a half of Benedict XVI's pontificate, it's business as usual and getting worse - worse with the selection of Levada. What was Benedict thinking? Didn't he realize the problems in San Francisco? Did he do it to rescue Levada from the city? If so, what will he do to rescue the rest of the Catholics there? Or the rest in the United States?
This whole series has been about the Catholic Identity Crisis in the USA, and with Levada in such a high position, there are now three Americans in high positions of the New Order curia; Archbishop John Foley and Cardinal William Baum. But Levada's position is going to be highly visible. Rather than cleaning house, Levada may just confuse Catholics more by blurring the lines between truth and tolerance. Let's hope not, but from all signs so far and from past performances, it looks like things are only going to get worse before they get better.
Could it be that The Almighty is going to have to step in with Divine Intervention? He did so in 1906. Now a century later all signs point to that possibility again for man has so arrogantly dismissed God and His natural law. Sodom by the Bay is far worse today than the Sodom of the Old Testament ever was. If God destroyed it then, can destruction of San Francisco be far off in these times? Not if you realize that, all in all, San Francisco is firmly in the hands of the liberal, feminist, and sodomite agenda, and taking souls deeper toward perdition.
There is no doubt that San Francisco is a beautiful city with much to offer the visitor. It is truly a place that all should visit at least once in their lives. However, this beauty makes the tragedy of its moral state all the more painful. Yes, it is true that its history is full of vice and materialism, but there was a strong Catholic and spiritual presence included as well. Sadly, the liberal, sodomite, and feminist forces have taken over this city completely, with little or no resistance from those shepherds whose duty it is to protect the flocks. San Francisco may well be termed Sodom to New York City's or Los Angeles' Gomorrah.
The city that once burned to the ground is now in moral ashes. The city that once rocked amid a powerful earthquake now shakes with disrespect and irreverence for The Almighty. The early morning fog usually lifts, but the moral fog found in this legendary city may never lift. Tony Bennett may have left his heart there, but many more have lost their souls there as well. If things don't change soon, more souls will be doomed.
