Convicting the World of Sin

There are different 'spirits' haunting souls today and none of them are holy!

"The Church's task should be that of the Holy Spirit, to convict the world of sin, and to prescribe the remedy - repentance, faith in Jesus Christ, and Baptism. But the spectacular failure of the so-called New Evangelization is precisely for this reason - that it gives everyone the Big Lie, the Whopper - a reassuring message of salvation for all, and this without the need for repentance, without faith, and without Baptism. The horror of the present situation is that many souls are on the brink of Hell because no one is telling them they have to repent. The false prophets who have 'respect' for people and their false religions are setting them up for eternal loss."

Editor's Note: In Father Louis Campbell's sermon for Sexagesima Sunday, he emphasizes the fact that if hearts are hardened, they will convict themselves of sin for Christ has given them every chance possible to see the Truth and repent. Yet, thanks to the false prophets , so many are hurtling headlong in pride into hell because they only believe what they want to believe. The same serpent that seduced Adam and Eve continues to slither unfettered through the sewer of political correctness and tolerance, aided and abetted by those who should be preaching Christ's unmitigated truths. But thanks to the New Evangelization that has abandoned all endeavors to proselytize the one True Faith, the fodder is fatter than ever for the deadly viper to swallow up and regurgitate in the everlasting pits of damnation. Just as the 'chosen people' of the Old Covenant refused to believe the Prophet Michaeus, so also those who should be upholding the New Covenant have refused to acknowledge the infallible, perennial Magisterium of the Church and have created a new religion to accommodate man, not God. [bold and italics below are editor's emphasis.]

The parables of Jesus had the dual purpose of revealing the truth to those of good will, who had the ears to hear, and of concealing the deeper meaning from those who were hard of heart, so that "Seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand" (Luke 8:10). If in the end most of the people did not repent of their sins and believe, it was because their hearts were hardened in sin. Jesus did not have "respect" for the consciences of those who refused to believe His word because it was the word of the Father, to Whom Jesus said, "Your word is truth" (John 17:17).

Jesus told His Apostles, "But when the Advocate has come, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness concerning Me… And when He has come He will convict the world of sin, and of justice, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of justice, because I go to the Father, and you will see Me no more, and of judgment, because the prince of this world has already been judged" (John 15:26; 16:8-11). The true Spirit convicts the world of sin so that it may repent and be saved.

But there are other "spirits." In the year 852 BC, when Achab, the king of Israel, together with Josaphat, king of Judah, wished to make war on the Syrians at Ramoth Gilead against the good advice of the prophet Micheas, he consulted false prophets. God allowed a "lying spirit" to speak through these false prophets assuring him of victory. But in accordance with the words of the true prophet, Israel and Judah were defeated, and Achab was wounded, dying that same evening (2 Paralippemon 18).

Today, perhaps because the hearts of many are hardened in sin, God is allowing a lying spirit to speak through most of our religious leaders. The spirit that has swept over the Church is not the Spirit of God, the Holy Ghost, but a lying spirit, a reassuring spirit that convinces the people that all is well. They can relax, they are not sinners, they will not suffer the flames of Hell, they are all on their way to Heaven. This is the same evil spirit that has enveloped the world and led it into rebellion against God - the same spirit that seduced Adam and Eve - the devil.

The Church's task should be that of the Holy Spirit, to convict the world of sin, and to prescribe the remedy - repentance, faith in Jesus Christ, and Baptism. The false prophets who have "respect" for people and their false religions are setting them up for eternal loss.

Recently John Paul II called for reinforcement of dialogue between Catholics and Jews when he received in audience a group of about 160 Jewish leaders, rabbis, cantors and their relatives. The event aimed to help commemorate the 40th anniversary this year of the Second Vatican Council declaration "Nostra Aetate," which marked a key turn in Judeo-Christian dialogue, and to thank John Paul II for his efforts during his pontificate to combat anti-Semitism.

John Paul, in a brief address to his guests said: "May this be an occasion for renewed commitment to increased understanding and cooperation in the service of building a world ever more firmly based on respect for the divine image in every human being… Upon all of you, I invoke the abundant blessings of the Almighty and, in particular, the gift of peace… Shalom aleichem." At the audience, three rabbis pronounced a blessing on John Paul II, and the meeting ended with a chant. (Zenit.org, Jan. 18, 2005).

To add to our astonishment, we note that the leader of the group was one of seven Jews who have been knighted by John Paul II and are now numbered among the Catholic Order of the Knights of St. Gregory, although they remain in their unbelief and are headed for perdition.

The Conciliar Church officially no longer preaches the Gospel to the Jews, as is evident from the report just given. There is no suggestion that the "divine image in every human being" has been obscured by Original Sin, and that all must repent of their sins, believe, and be baptized in order to be saved. All is well! "Shalom aleichem!"

We must have heavy hearts for the Jews, praying for their conversion, since they are left to their fate by those who have abandoned the truth of the Gospels:

"For many deceivers have gone forth into the world who do not confess Jesus as the Christ coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the Antichrist. Look to yourselves, that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may receive a full reward. Anyone who advances and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ, has not God; he who abides in the doctrine, he has both the Father and the Son" (2 John 7-9).

"Strive for peace with all men, and for that holiness without which no man will see God… For you have not approached a mountain that may be touched, and a burning fire, and whirlwind and darkness and storm, and sound of trumpet, and sound of words… But you have come to Mount Sion, and to the city of the living God, the Heavenly Jerusalem, and to the company of many thousands of angels, and to the Church of the firstborn who are enrolled in the Heavens, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the just made perfect, and to Jesus, Mediator of a new covenant, and to a sprinkling of blood which speaks better than Abel. See that you do not refuse him who speaks. For if they did not escape who rejected him who spoke upon earth, much more shall we not escape who turn away from Him Who speaks to us from Heaven… Therefore, since we receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken, we have grace, through which we may offer pleasing service to God with fear and reverence. For our God is a consuming fire" (Hebrews 12:14;18-25;28,29).

Holy Mary, Mother of the Word Incarnate, pray for us!
Saints Peter and Paul, pray for us!
