Last year, in preparation for the debut of Mel Gibson's much anticipated film The Passion of The Christ on February 25th, we began a 40-day countdown to Ash Wednesday on January 16th. This year the number 40 has greater significance than ever before. Indeed, did you realize Ash Wednesday this year is exactly 40 days from the Feast of the Circumcision on January 1st? Also, the 40 days of Lent (not counting Sundays) represents Our Lord's time in the desert in preparation for His public ministry and the subsequent temptation by the devil. Though He was divine, He had a human nature and was like us in all things except sin. Yet He still found it necessary to fast and pray for 40 days in total solitude. If the Son of God saw the importance of this, should any one of us discard the importance of Lent? It is a discipline handed down from the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity and practiced in His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church for nearly 2000 years. But over these past 40 years these disciplines have been dissipated in order to be more tolerant of man and accommodating to the world. This year 40 comes into play all the more with the realization that it has been 40 years since the close of the abominable Second Vatican Council - 40 years that Catholics have been wandering and wondering in the desert of deceit, deviousness and so totally dumbed-down with the pabulum of modernism incorporated in ecumenism, humanism, and every other ism. 40 years is enough! It's time to wise up!
Other than those who could get to the Blessing of the Ashes and the Latin Mass last Ash Wednesday, how many can remember where they were last year? Many will admit they were at the movie theater to see Mel's much anticipated The Passion of The Christ. Remember the crowds? We could only hope and pray that the fruits will someday contribute to bringing the crowds away from the evil of the New Order rituals and back to the Traditional Latin Mass and all it stands for. We pray for that day when holy churches will be packed again and people are there not for social purposes or because 'they have to' but because there is no other place they would rather be. I know because last Ash Wednesday, considering we had no outlet for the Traditional Latin Mass in the Branson, Missouri area, we journeyed to the local complex to attend the next best thing to the Holy Latin Mass, Mel's masterpiece. We have renewed that experience several times since then. Each time we come away with something more just as each time we attend the Immemorial Mass of Tradition we come away with more graces and a greater appreciation for what so many have forgotten.
Why have they forgotten? Ah, there's the rub. While on the subject of films, there are three films that I heartily recommend. The first of course is The Passion which, now on DVD or VHS is available to view as often as you wish during Lent. Few vehicles are as powerful for meditation and realizing the importance of this time of prayer, penance and fasting. By now you most probably can purchase The Passion for under $15. That's a bargain that will return tremendous dividends.
Speaking of returning tremendous dividends, we urge you to purchase another video that brings home in vivid detail and images "what we have lost" with the defiling of our Faith and Traditions and what all need to do to reverse the revolution: join the Resistance. In fact, that is the name of the video What We Have Lost...and the Road to Restoration. It is one that you can share with your Novus Ordo friends. If they cannot see the desecration and evil of the new mass and the deviation from the Faith after this, then their hearts are hardened and all you can do is pray. But think of it. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they could join you at Holy Mass in the future? It is possible through these tools and your sincerity in seeking more souls to realize the truths of Catholicism.
The video is available on VHS for $25. plus $2.50 for shipping and handling. But what is even better is they have a CD-DVD available for only $10. plus $2.50 shipping and handling. For only $12.50 you can attain this video to play and share on your computer or in your DVD player.
Ask about discounts on multiple orders. While books are powerful, the impact is gradual. With this video, the impact is immediate. Those who give you the excuse that they don't have time to read it now, or they don't have time to go to various websites, won't have an excuse that they can give you an hour to watch with you this powerful visual proof of the current situation in the Church and the only alternative they must choose for the salvation of their own soul. Do you think they'll have time for that? If not, God help them!
You will get resistance from them because they are both comfortable in their familiar zone and also they'll fight it because to change means to fight against the current. This struggle, this loss of memory of what Catholicism truly is was brought home powerfully in another film which we rented recently. It is a commercial movie now in video stores that probably didn't get too much play in theaters when it first came out last fall and therefore was rushed to video. But it's theme and message hits home with what has happened in our beloved Church and country.
The film is The Forgotten starring Juliette Moore, Dominic West and Gary Sinese.
The overall plot deals with Telly, a mother whose son was killed in a plane crash...or so she thought. All those around her think she's crazy for, as the viewer discovers while the story evolves - they have been programmed to forget and those doing the programming have sinisterly altered photos, memorabilia, and furnishings to reinforce the fact that she must be crazy. Even her psychiatrist working with her is in on the conspiracy. We discover half way through the film that she did indeed have a son as she fights to reassure herself by confirming it through another parent played by West as Ash who had a daughter. He eventually is shocked into remembering he did have a daughter and they work to find their children, realizing they could still be alive. They come to this conclusion both because the NSA (National Security Agency, read: CIA, FBI, FEMA) is doing all in their power come hell or highwater to apprehend Telly and Ash, especially Telly who is determined to find her son and the truth no matter what. It is finally revealed that "they" are watching and will destroy anyone or anything that gets in "their" way. "They" turned out to be unknown aliens who were experimenting with human emotions.
While this film reminded me of something out of the X-Files, this had much more meat on the bones for it had a subliminal message that should alert every Roman Catholic of what we have lost and need to remember. The "they" would be the very entity St. Paul warned of in Ephesians 6: 12, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood: but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness: against the spirits of wickedness in the high places." This was illustrated well in the supernatural composition of the visible "they" and how "they" sucked up its victims into thin air. While we know physically this is not possible humanly speaking, it is possible in the supernatural realm and indeed this very thing is happening every second as satan snatches souls into thin air. Before he can do that however, he must program the soul to forget God. To forget the Holy Trinity - the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, he must enlist agents who will assist him in his madness. This movie brought that home so well. Telly's own husband was programmed to eventually not even recognize his wife; so also her friends. They were programmed so insidiously well that they regarded Telly's actions as bizarre and mental. They openly clamored for her to "seek help," but she resisted because she knew in her heart and soul she was right.
How many can see the analogy here to the mass programming of Catholics being dumbed-down over the past 40 years to this very "experiment" performed on the particular people in that film? The mysterious aliens not only took away their memories, but instilled in them a revulsion for anyone stubbornly fighting to remember. How many can see here the concerted effort to vilify Traditional Catholics for fighting to remember and preserve the True Faith and its constituted evangelic traditions? How many times have you tried to explain the Traditional position only to get blown off or find they want to change the subject. Why? There are several reasons. One, they have been programmed by the 'aliens' of the Faith to treat Traditional Catholics as 'schismatics' who are outside the Church. In truth, it is those who have abandoned the Truths and Traditions of Holy Mother Church by embracing a new religion - foreign to the True Faith which still carries the veneer of Catholicism - emerging from Vatican II who are 'outside the Church.' Two, they are afraid of hearing the truth because they've been programmed by those same 'aliens' to rationalize, and, to quote Jack Nicholson from A Few Good Men, "You can't handle the truth." Three, they have no answers to the questions posed to them because though they've been programmed to spout the New Order line, they have not been programmed to respond to key questions that the infallible, perennial Teaching Magisterium of the Church has always answered in absolutes. And so they get flustered and say such things as, "that can't be," or "I'm still a Roman Catholic and nothing will change my mind," or the one we all hear and grimace at inwardly, "he's Mary's pope and he couldn't possibly do wrong" even while you're listing the countless times he's spouted heresy and scandalized so many. Of course, if you make the scandal acceptable, then it won't be scandal before man. Yet, it remains scandal before God for He cannot deceive nor be deceived. We know only too clearly what Christ says of scandal in Matthew 18: 6-9. There are several other reasons why non-Traditional Catholics are squeamish around Traditional Catholics, but those reasons given should suffice to help you realize why you get rebuffed or dismissed every time you want to speak about the Faith. But then, if they rebuffed and dismissed Our Lord's words, how much more our words?!
Like Telly's determination, every Traditional Catholic knows in their heart they are right and seek with all their heart to convert others. Novus Ordo Catholics are told conversion is no longer necessary and that graces and salvation can be found in other faiths, even non-Christian ones! As heretical and blasphemous as that sounds, they have been programmed to buy such apostasy. I know, because a fellow seminarian whom I studied with for seven years over 40 years ago told me this himself in a recent e-mail when I challenged another seminarian classmate to realize how the truths have been compromised and how much we have lost. The former wrote,
"I will not write as long as you did, but I want to challenge your theology and ecclesiology...I believe that we are baptized INTO this world; we are baptized INTO COMMUNITY. We are going to all "make it" or none of us is. There will not be pious pockets of folks who will be saved because of their individual road to salvation.
We are walking this road together, we are our sisters' and brothers' keepers and we will be judged on how we have lived Isaiah 58 and Matthew 25.
I know that is not the perspective you have. I respect everyone for their posture and position, but that is not the calling that I have as a member of the Roman Catholic Church--as it is lived in 2005--as a changing, transforming entity--as it has been for 2000 years. There is no one era or year that we should "re-capture." The Church is wonderful specifically because it is able to be alive in the world [not of the world] in all the centuries."
Where does one begin to refute this heresy of a chameleon church? We can begin with Pope Pius IX's Syllabus of Errors and follow through with Pope Saint Pius X's Pascendi Dominici Gregis and Oath Against Modernism for starters. But can you see here from his rationale how he has been dumbed down and programmed to forget Catholic truth? So sad. You can see the deprogramming in his very words: "I respect everyone for their posture and position." No, you cannot respect "everyone" if they are not in alignment with the will of God. Does one respect mammon or satan? No, one is mindful of them and realizes their power, but does not respect them for that would be acknowledging a good and there is nothing good about mammon or the devil! Can you see the heresy in his statement "We are baptized INTO THIS WORLD; we are baptized INTO COMMUNITY"? That is the mantra "they" have managed to inject into the hearts, souls and minds of the masses and why you hear in every Novus Ordo the emphasis on the "Unity of Community" rather than the need for salvation. Baptism has nothing to do with the world. We are BORN INTO THIS WORLD, but through Baptism we are given the sacrament that gives our souls the new life of sanctifying grace - the only means by which we become children of God and heirs of Heaven. Christ Himself said that very emphatically in Mark 16: 16. Not only is Baptism the fulcrum for being a Catholic, but without it we cannot receive any of the other sacraments and since a sacrament is an outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace it would naturally follow that grace cannot be attained in any faith outside of the Catholic Church for She alone possesses the power and permission to perform the sacraments as they were divinely ordained. Note here also, man has no right whatsoever to change what God deigned. Therefore, the new mass cannot be of God for it is totally man-made and constructed by known enemies of the Church no less. For my former seminarian classmate to say "We are going to all 'make it' or none of us is. There will not be pious pockets of folks who will be saved because of their individual road to salvation" is pure unadulterated heresy.
Yet, folks, this man truly thinks he is living as a good Catholic. That is how deep the deception and reprogramming has gone over the past 40 years. This is a man who was imbued with the very same education I was for seven years. In fact, I respected him because he was more intelligent than I was grade-wise. He was a master Gregorian chant director, a skilled musician and a good speaker. He came from a good Catholic family with strong roots. If he and so many like him could be had by the great deprogramming to so forget the essence of the Faith, what about those whose religion was so surface, sprouting on barren ground - rock-hard ground and scattered to the winds.
Can you see how devastating the devil's accomplishments have been? What makes it even more sad is that many of the priests who taught us have also been deprogrammed, willingly and robotically embracing whatever comes down the pike as long as it is for the "unity of community." Do they realize what the great Doctor of the Church Saint Augustine (who "they" are trying to extinguish and alter) said? Let me remind them: "Wrong is wrong even if every one is doing it, and right is right even if no one is doing it." Another thought to consider: There's a reason why the path to Heaven is narrow and the path to perdition wide. Through the narrow way one person at a time enters after individually standing before the Eternal Judge at his particular judgment, while hordes of people are hopelessly at a point of no-return on the slippery slope into hell...even though they 'thought' they were right and rationalized they were by their actions; lex orandi, lex credendi.
So also in the film The Forgotten we discover the 'experiment' was not on Telly's son, but on her. They wanted to remove a mother's love and memory of that love. While watching this the Blessed Mother flooded my mind and heart for satan has wanted more than anything else to get us to forget our Heavenly Mother and think that Christ's Blessed Mother has forgotten us. She hasn't. Neither would Telly. She fought with all her might to keep the memory, the love as the 'creature' - which I might as well refer to as satan - kept removing every memory he could, even to the very first memory of her son's birth when she first set eyes on him. Having grasped even that away from her, the devil thought he had won and began walking away in triumph. The experiment had been a success, or so he thought until the low audio of a beating heart triumphed all. Telly could remember her son's heart beating within her womb. Talk about a strong pro-life statement in a commercial film! Powerful. That was the downfall of the alien - of satan - for they could not remove that memory, that love.
Such is the resistance of Traditional Catholics to the revolution of Vatican II. The noble, heroic and holy Apostle of Tradition Saint Athanasius encourages us to stay the course:
"What saddens you is the fact that others have occupied the churches by violence, while during this time you are on the outside. It is a fact that they have the premises - but you have the Apostolic Faith. They can occupy our churches, but they are outside the true Faith You remain outside the places of worship, but the Faith dwells within you. Let us consider: what is more important? The place or the Faith? The true Faith, obviously. Who has lost and who has won in this struggle? The one who keeps the premises or the one who keeps the Faith?
Just as "they" tried to erase all memory and love in Telly for her baby, she resisted and won. So also the devil has tried to erase all memory and love for the true Faith by taking away the Holy Sacrifice and altering it and subsequently the very Faith itself by repetition of error until the people are so programmed that they believe the kind of heresy my former seminarian classmate wrote above. Saint Alphonsus Liguori forewarned of these times,
"The devil has always attempted, by means of the heretics, to deprive the world of the Holy Mass, making them precursors of the Anti-Christ, who, before anything else, will try to abolish and will actually abolish the Holy Sacrament of the altar, as a punishment for the sins of men, according to the prediction of Daniel: 'And strength was given him against the continual sacrifice' (Daniel 8:12)"
Man, by and large has forgotten the true Faith. Man, by and large has aided and abetted the aliens by cooperating with the prince of darkness. What is so sad is how deep the deception has penetrated. My former seminarian classmate truly believes what he wrote. That's how badly his memories and convictions have been erased. Consider then the priests, bishops, archbishops, cardinals and even John Paul II. Satan is powerful. We all believe that they should know better. Yet, in hearing from an old classmate, I realize he, as well as so many of our former friends and many priests still believe they are right. It brings home those prophetic words of Our Lord on the Cross, "Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do."
This Lent we are striving to remind as many as possible of what they have forgotten. We have, as always, our CREDO & CULTURE page, and in addition for Lent we will be publishing reflections to better help those who think they are perfectly fine the way they are in embracing the world, the flesh and the devil. We begin in this issue with an Examination of Conscience for the only way to return into God's good graces and sanctifying grace is through the Font of Divine Mercy - the Confessional. Yet so many have taken this for granted - even Traditional Catholics, and we all need to make our time on this fleeting earth as poignant as possible in order to cooperate with the great Communion of Saints. That is the only community we need to be in unity with!
The excuse of not knowing or invincible ignorance will not cut it when it comes time to meet their Maker. They need to realize what they have lost before it is too late. It would be a tragic crime beyond any punishment one could think of, if when they stand before the Eternal Judge, they might find themselves missing from His great book. For indeed, while they might be remembered for their humanistic works on earth by man, they may be to God "The Forgotten."
