What Next?

Amidst all the euphoria and opinions so prevalent this past week, Catholicism has been reduced to a political party whose platform can be changed to suit the people! Oh, how wrong they are! How wrong so many have been! But those who fight for right must remember St. Augustine's sage words, "right is right even if no one is doing it...and wrong is wrong even if every one is doing it!"

"Many scriptural and prophetic references to these times have proven consistent with a general modernization, corruption, secularization, liberalization of Church doctrine, beliefs, and practices. There will be continued and increased desecration of The Blessed Sacrament and of the Sacraments in general. Belief in The Real Presence will practically disappear. The liturgy will soon not even resemble anything faintly Catholic, which is not such a stretch given the fact that it is well on its way to this end. What used to be the Catholic Church will become so different from what people see that even many who had accepted and lived with past changes will be moved to concern, outrage, or despair. Ultimately, those seeking a traditional Catholic faith will be forced to go underground as in ancient times."

Given what has happened over the past thirty years, the increasing liberalism, modernism, secularism, feminism, and sodomite influence over the Catholic Church, the expanding proportionalism , ecumenism, and relativism which has infected Catholic thinking, the defiance, cowardice, and increasing political correctness of many Catholic clergy, and the spreading numbers of cafeteria Catholics, the immediate future of the Catholic Church does not appear very bright or positive. To make matters worse, it is very likely that the next Pope will the spiritual equivalent of Sandra Day O'Connor: predicted and expected conservative but turning out to be anything but.

Dark Clouds Gathering

It seems that negative influences that have subtly and not so subtly grown over the past thirty years are now converging and focusing not only in Rome but in Europe and North America as well. One can now hear the drumming of calls for female priests, for rationalization of abortion, for condoning of stem cell research and genetic engineering, for rationalization of euthanasia, for increased relativism, for expanding proportionalism, and for unchained cafeteria Catholicism rooted in convenience, arrogance, selfishness, defiance, and ignorance. The already spreading infection of Protestant influences in liturgy, practice, and belief shows no slowing down. The venom of distorted ecumenism continues to push and pull the Catholic faith toward its amorphous spiritual black hole, aided and abetted by the clergy of all people. To make matters worse, the present Catholic faith reminds me of 1820s Texas. It is littered with people who do not agree with the way things have and are being done, full of defiant ideas about how things should be done, and ready, willing, and able to push their views on the whole in whatever means possible. It does not take much imagination to imagine that these defiant internal groups are spreading an explosive cancer ready to further undermine the faith they purport to belong to. In this dark environment so full of dangerous fumes and ready flames, we now inject a new variable….a new pope.

Appearances Deceive

I firmly believe that the next Pope will be hailed as continuing in the general path of John Paul II, that he will at first appear to continue the fight against what John Paul called "the culture of death". Given the harmful and destructive ecumenical efforts already continued by past Popes, it seems redundant and plain that the next Pope will likely continue and likely even expand that rampant, misguided ecumenism. Little by little, it will become apparent that this next Pope will be more and more like a Mahony, a McCarrick, or any of the numerous European Cardinals whose ideas run with modernist, politically correct, secular themes. This will not be clearly apparent at first, but within a few years it will be painfully apparent, and many will look back at John Paul II as comparatively conservative! So many today mistakenly refer to him as a conservative, but traditional Catholics would definitely disagree.

Many scriptural and prophetic references to these times have proven consistent with a general modernization, corruption, secularization, liberalization of Church doctrine, beliefs, and practices. Ultimately, those seeking a traditional Catholic faith will be forced to go underground as in ancient times.

Do not be surprised to see twists and contortions attempting to justify female priests, the condoning of abortion, euthanasia, and playing God, the acceptance and even embracing of sodomite agendas. People like John Kerry, Jennifer Granholm, and Nancy Pelosi will run parishes as lay participation expands and further dilutes both the sacredness and the tradition of Catholic practice and liturgy. Tears will flow from the faces of many traditional or even conscious Catholics as they see their once beautiful faith become diluted, distorted, and twisted beyond recognition.

Drowning in Ecumenism

True Catholics will not be unlike swimmers in a raging sea of ecumenism, trying to keep their heads above water but drowning under the waves of blasphemy and sacrilege. Eventually, the powers that be will brand any true Catholic a dangerous, radical deviant, and various forms of persecution will begin. Twisted Catholics will be used to further isolate true Catholics as abnormal and dangerous. The expansion of immoral laws intended to protect sin will merely add to the arsenal used against any true Catholic. All of this will happen during the watch of the next Pope, who may well take on the Barrabas tactic, willing to sacrifice the faith for practicality, convenience, and popularity. I fear that this next Pope will make even those critical of John Paul II wish for JP II's return! Better yet, Pope Pius XII's return...or, even better: Pope Saint Pius X!

The Faith Will Survive

Despite the dire clouds around us, we know from Christ that our Faith will survive as it has in past troubles. Even if things look very dim and dark as on Good Friday, God Almighty will always be at the side of those who truly wish to maintain their faith and be soldiers for tradition and truth. There will be a better day, a return to glory, but the immediate future, and the next Papacy, does not appear to me to be the heralds of that return. If Good Friday is the darkest hour and Easter the brightest, we are still early in Holy Week and well on our way to Holy Thursday. The devil wants us to despair and lose hope, but we must turn the evil one's delight into defeat by thanking Our Lord for granting us this opportunity to show what we are really made of. It has always been tough to be a true Catholic, but there is no doubt that it already is and will be much tougher to be such a Catholic soon than it has been for a long time. May we reward Our Lord's decision to place us in this place at this time with passionate loyalty, courage, and strength!
