We implore the Traditional Bishops to Come Together as One!|
A plea to every Traditional Bishop to bury the hatchet and unite so that the only true successors of the Apostles left can legitimately select a true Successor of Peter to lead the faithful out of the desert. It is an impossibility, as Pope Paul IV forever decreed, with the current crop of "cardinals" who will enter into conclave.
On this day when we commemorate in America "Tax Day," every Catholic has to admit these are the times that tax men's souls. So much has been forfeited in observing the rules and now man thinks he can avoid the tax God demands, by veering farther from the Almighty. We have rendered too much to Caesar, and hardly anything to God and there is a penalty to pay. Either now or later, we will have to account for our revenue of God-given gifts which have not been fully used for His greater honor and glory. The dividends in the modern church are obvious: bankruptcy in morals and spirituality, and now manifesting itself in monetary insufficiency. It was inevitable and now we are confronted with the void, and I do mean 'void.'
There is a call to Traditional Catholics universally to observe a world-wide fast for the upcoming conclave in modern Rome. Initiated by Simon Galloway of Great Britain, he writes the following,
After the treason of Judas sent Christ to the Cross, Sacred Scripture and Tradition tells us that Our Blessed Mother and the Apostles fasted and prayed for the Holy Ghost to enlighten their choice of his successor (Acts 1:13-26). So it comes to pass that with the modern betrayal of Christ's Church by her own leaders, the faithful remnant is being called again to hold to the same tradition of their fathers (2 Thessalonians 2:15), for the coming election of John Paul II's successor…
Right there is the contradiction: "the modern betrayal of Christ's Church by her own leaders."
These very leaders - all 115 of them are set to enter the pristine, sacred, historical Sistine Chapel on Monday afternoon. That, in and of itself, is a blasphemy before God that apostate men would dare to call themselves Catholic, let alone think they hold the authority to elect a Sovereign Pontiff. Yet, Simon, bless his heart for trying, is assuming these men are Catholic.
It has been proven that these men all cling to a new religion - that of the Vatican II church which is diametrically opposed to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Faith practiced and preserved from Pope St. Peter through Pope Pius XII. Therefore, since the men wearing red will enter the sacred conclave without the authority to do so, how can a true pope ever come about from men who are not Catholic, men who are heretics and in apostasy?
The facts are that the sitting cardinals, no matter what age, are not true cardinals and most are not even true priests as pointed out last week in Pius XII's Sacramentum Ordinis.
How can we make such a bold and brash statement? By adhering to what a true Pope decreed must be observed in perpetuity. By the way, perpetuity doesn't mean just during his reign or as long as the people went along with it until they could change it according to the times and conditions. "In perpetuity," means forever as long as Christ willed for His Church to exist - "until the consummation of the world" (Matthew 28: 20) for "the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16: 19). That was the intention and will of the Church in the person of Her Invisible Head Jesus Christ and the intention of His visible heads, one of which was Pope Paul IV. In 1559 that same Vicar of Christ affirmed infallibly (for it was on faith and morals and was pronounced ex cathedra) - even though the Dogma of Papal Infallibility was not proclaimed official until the dogmatic First Vatican Council - the irrefutable qualifications for calling oneself Catholic - for holding office in Christ's Church. He laid this out very clearly in his Apostolic Constitution Cum Ex Apostolatus Officio intended to be observed in perpetuity, affirming the following in article 6:
In addition, [by this Our Constitution, which is to remain valid in perpetuity We enact, determine, decree and define:] that if ever at any time it shall appear that any Bishop, even if he be acting as an Archbishop, Patriarch or Primate; or any Cardinal of the aforesaid Roman Church, or, as has already been mentioned, any legate, or even the Roman Pontiff, prior to his promotion or his elevation as Cardinal or Roman Pontiff, has deviated from the Catholic Faith or fallen into some heresy:
(i) the promotion or elevation, even if it shall have been uncontested and by the unanimous assent of all the Cardinals, shall be null, void and worthless;
(ii) it shall not be possible for it to acquire validity (nor for it to be said that it has thus acquired validity) through the acceptance of the office, of consecration, of subsequent authority, nor through possession of administration, nor through the putative enthronement of a Roman Pontiff, or Veneration, or obedience accorded to such by all, nor through the lapse of any period of time in the foregoing situation;
(iii) it shall not be held as partially legitimate in any way;
(iv) to any so promoted to be Bishops, or Archbishops, or Patriarchs, or Primates or elevated as Cardinals, or as Roman Pontiff, no authority shall have been granted, nor shall it be considered to have been so granted either in the spiritual or the temporal domain;
(v) each and all of their words, deeds, actions and enactments, howsoever made, and anything whatsoever to which these may give rise, shall be without force and shall grant no stability whatsoever nor any right to anyone;
(vi) those thus promoted or elevated shall be deprived automatically, and without need for any further declaration, of all dignity, position, honour, title, authority, office and power.
Now, if we are Catholic, we cannot dismiss this as "a decree only for those times" or "not applying to the present crisis in the Church." To deny the severity and authority of Pope Paul IV's words is "cafeteria Catholicism" and it isn't Catholic for it is being disobedient to the infallible, perennial Living Magisterium of the Church. The fact of the matter is that because his decree was not precisely followed that we have the crisis we do. His Holiness issued this decree as a safeguard against the very epikea crisis we have today.
So, despite the good will and heart of Simon and so many other Traditional Catholics out there who are so right about what we need and why, we're all looking in the wrong direction if we expect the current crop of "cardinals" to select an orthodox, holy Pope. We haven't had an orthodox, holy pope since Pius XII. How can a group of apostates select one? Did not our dear Lord say in Matthew 7: 16, "By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes off thorns, or figs off thistles?" Jesus clearly told us in the next few verses, "Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the bad tree bringeth forth bad fruit. A good tree cannot yield bad fruit, neither can a bad tree yield good fruit. Every tree that yieldeth not good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire. Wherefore, by their fruits you shall know them."
Do these words have meaning? Of course they do. Then is it not insane to expect grapes from thorns or figs from thistles? These "cardinals" simply cannot elect a legitimate successor of Peter because they themselves have left the True Church taking up with a man-made religion; no different than the followers of Martin Luther and all those who have splintered off from the True Church. Wherefore then do we turn?
To the successors of the Apostles. And where are the successors of the Apostles? Are they the "cardinals" or "bishops" of the Novus Ordo? By the clarity of Paul's decree they are not and cannot be. But there are true successors who have not deviated from the Faith and have remained true to the Truths and Traditions of Holy Mother Church by keeping the Faith with the True Mass of All Ages - the Latin Mass - and the unsullied rites of the Sacraments as decreed by the infallible Council of Trent. They are bishops who have been validly consecrated by validly consecrated bishops who have not deviated. And this includes the Thuc line of bishops. Slurs and accusations have circulated that the bishops consecrated by Archbishop Peter Martin Ngo Dihn Thuc are not valid because "he didn't have a papal mandate." Neither did Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre but few doubt the validity of his consecrations. The same with the Thuc line. Until someone can provide absolute, irrefutable proof that the Thuc bishops are not valid, they do a greater disservice to the traditional movement and further seek to rip at the tunic of Christ.
That is the problem as Griff Ruby so adroitly pointed out in his column yesterday Canonical Pessimism. We have divided the Mystical Body rather than unifying it. How then can the Church be unified? By calling upon all the traditional bishops of the world who still uphold the Faith of our Fathers and practice it as it should be carried out, who are loyal to all passed down from Peter to Pius XII. We call these traditional, loyal and true successors of the Apostles - though they are few - to bury the hatchet of prejudice and differences, and convene in a central locale to pray and, after due process, to elect a true Sovereign Pontiff who can reunite the Mystical Bride. From tiny acorns great oaks grow. It doesn't matter if only a remnant follow him at first; it does matter that all Catholics who are truly Catholic recognize him as a true Successor of Peter.
Yes, there may be a visible "schism" between the conciliarists and authentic Catholics, but there has been that schism for 40 years. By making it more visible and bringing it to the attention of all, more will realize where the true Church lies and will recognize for themselves the good tree from the bad tree. Remember, since a bad tree cannot yield good fruit, the evidence will be overwhelming. But the populace cannot see the evidence if it is not presented. By electing a true successor there will be the opportunity to unite the various traditional sects into one solid voice strongly behind a true reigning Pontiff, just as the Novus Ordinarians may have the buildings, including the sacred confines of Vatican City itself for now, the Faith rests in Christ, not man or a building. Wherever the true Pope would wish to reside and rule from, we should be obedient and open to that. If it is Rome, great, if it would be Genoa, great; if it would be Mexico City or Buenos Aires, or Cincinnati, or anywhere else, great. Wherever it were, it would be Eternal Rome for you can separate the seat from the city, but you can't separate the City of God from the faith.
What the present crop of "cardinals" should do for their own salvation, is recuse themselves and announce to the world their unworthiness and invalidity to select a successor. Quite possibly, the first one to perform such a stunning act of humility would be a possible candidate to be considered for Pope if the true successors of Peter were given the opportunity to come together to bring the Church out of the desert and to the promised land.
With all that in mind, I present what Simon has proffered below with the caveat emptor that who he is referring to as electors have no authority, but that prayer is still strongly recommended, even fasting, for "With men this is impossible: but with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19: 26 ).
What We Need Now
While the conciliarist Catholics are mourning the loss of John Paul "The Great," we traditionalists have our eyes on the future. We have all seen the disproportionate attention the media has given this event after 26 years of virtual silence on the plight of Catholicism in the modern world. Now that the crocodile tears have been spent the spin-doctors are wasting no time in raising the public's hopes for an even more liberal pope getting into office than the last one. While the pontiff has been commended on his destructive policies of ecumenism, religious liberty and support of economic and political centralisation, he has been heavily criticized for showing any signs of orthodoxy such as his stance on contraception, homosexuality, abortion, euthanasia, women's ordination, and priestly celibacy. And so the secular world waits for its conscience to be set free by another arch-Modernist who will hasten the demolition by democratising the Church, softening the teachings on sexual freedom, and advancing interreligious dialogue. Given our unique God-given perception of the crisis in the Catholic Church we traditionalists have a strong moral duty to act now to help ensure that when the next Papal conclave is convened on Monday, April 18th God gives us a Pontiff according to His Heart, not the world's. A strong, orthodox Pope who will engage his authority by "laying his axe to the root" (Luke 3:9), who will bring "the sword of truth" to bear on compromise with error (Matthew 10:34) and who will "drive the money changers out of the temple" (Matthew 21:12).
Turning the Tide
The next pontificate is potentially one of those events that people will look back on as a "turning point" in history. And right now things could go either way. We might be tempted to despair of the Church being turned around at this late stage in her demolition. But we should know better than that. We know from our Fathers in the Faith that not only can the repentant hearts of men avert God's wrath and win His mercy, but that Almighty God can and often does turn around a hopeless situation against all odds for His own greater glory! How can we forget God's promise to Abraham to spare the wicked people of Sodom if just 10 good men could be found? (Genesis 18: 26-31) Or His mercy shown towards the repentant people of Nineveh? (O.T. book of Jonas) And what about the miraculous victory of Gideon's band of 300 good men against the pagan hordes of 130,000? (Judges 6-7). If God was prepared to do this for our ancestors of old how much more will He give to His beloved Bride, the Catholic Church, if she asks Him? Nor should we be discouraged by the majority of liberal cardinals occupying the electorate, because God's ways are not men's ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). Church history demonstrates that when Almighty God wills it, He can turn the zeal of His opponents into holy instruments of evangelization. We need only recall St. Peter's conversion of 3,000 incredulous Jews at Pentecost, the blinding conversion experience of Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus, and the embracing of Christianity by the pagan Roman Emperor, Constantine, as fine examples of Almighty God's ability to defrost the most hardened of hearts to the truth of Our Faith.
All We Need Is Faith
Our Lord tells us in several places of Sacred Scripture that all we need is faith in Him. Indeed we know from the heroic examples of the bishops Athanasius and Lefebvre that we have the faith and they have the Churches. Well, if we have the faith then now is the time to use it. Our Lord promised His people that those who had faith even "as a grain of mustard seed, they shall say to this mountain, remove from hence hither and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible to them" (Matthew 17:19). To this end I propose an adapted form of St. Pio's Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus to be recited during this turbulent time which in itself is a beautiful act of Faith in the Lord:
Editor's Note: Padre Pio's Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart is most appropriate and we would preface it with the Veni Creator Spiritus
Veni Creator Spiritus,|
Mentes tuorum visita,
Imple superna gratia,
Quae tu creasti, pectora.
Qui diceris Paraclitus,
Altissimi donum Dei,
Fons vivus, ignis, caritas,
Et spiritalis unctio.
Tu septiformis munere,
Digitus Paternae dexterae,
Tu rite promissum Patris,
Sermone ditans guttura.
Accende lumen sensibus,
Infunde amorem cordibus,
Infirma nostri corpis
Virtute firmans perpeti.
Hostem repellas longius,
Pacemque dones protinus;
Ductoresic te praevio,
Vitemus omne noxium.
Per te sciamus da Patrem
Noscamus atque Filium;
Teque utrius que Spiritum
Credamus omni tempore.
Deo Patri sit gloria,
Et Filio, qui a mortuis
Surrexit, ac Paraclito
In sacculorum saecula.
Come, Holy Ghost, Creator, come.|
From Thy bright Heavenly throne!
Come, take possession of our souls,
And make them all Thine Own!
Thou Who art called the Paraclete,
Best gift of God above,
The Living Spring, The Living Fire,
Sweet Unction, and True Love!
Thou Who are sevenfold in Thy grace,
Finger of God's right hand,
His Promise, teaching little ones
To speak and understand!
O guide our minds with Thy blest light,
With love our hearts inflame,
And with Thy strength, which ne'er decays,
Confirm our mortal frame.
Far from us drive our hellish foe,
True peace unto us bring,
And through all perils guide us safe
Beneath Thy sacred wing.
Through Thee may we the Father know,
Through Thee the Eternal Son,
And Thee the Spirit of them both ---
Thrice blessed Three in One.
Now to the Father, and the Son
Who rose from death, be glory given,
With Thee, O holy Comforter,
Henceforth by all in earth and Heaven.
Jesus, You have said, "Truly, I say to you, ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7) Behold we knock, we seek, and ask for a Pope according to the Heart of God.
Jesus, You have said, "Truly I say to you, if you ask the Father any thing in my name, He will give it you." (John 16: 23). Behold in Your name we ask the Father for the expulsion of the enemy from Rome.
Jesus, You have said, "Truly I say to you, Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away." (Luke 21:33) Encouraged by Your infallible words we cry out for the resurrection of Your One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church
How Do We Express that Faith?
Unlike Protestants, we Catholics know that our faith has to be joined to good works for the salvation of our souls (James 2:14 -26). Certainly God throws down "ropes" of grace to His estranged creatures for their salvation but we are not reeled in like lazy fishes, rather we have to climb the ropes of grace and swim against the current. Now is no exception. And it wouldn't be the first time the laity has taken matters into its own hands in order to help save the Church from bad leadership. There was no doubt in the mind of the 4th century Bishop, St. Athanasius, for instance, that the laity had been the true champions and preservers of the faith during the Arian crisis. To that end I am calling upon every traditionalist Catholic to rally support for a momentous worldwide vigil of fasting and prayer in the days leading up to the next Papal Conclave to draw down the Holy Ghost to give us a Shepherd according to the Heart of God as we approach Pentecost, in this, the Church's hour of need. We know God will rebuild His Church on a faithful remnant (Romans 9:27); one that has eyes to see and ears to hear through the operation of error sent to those in the Conciliar Church (c.f. 2 Thessalonians 2: 10) and so by Divine Justice it is our duty as Traditionalists to take up the burden of the cross and "fill up those things that are wanting of the sufferings of Christ for His body which is the Church" (Colossians 1:24). Indeed it was Our Lord's own injunction for His disciples to fast when the Bridegroom of the Church be taken from among them (Matthew 9: 15). And how much more relevant is this today now that the chair of Peter is empty and the Church wanders in the wilderness?
Editor's Note: Simon refers next John Paul II's Universi Dominici Gregis. According to Pope Paul IV's irrefutable words, that decree by the former is "null and void" and therefore not applicable nor able to be considered. Therefore, we skip ahead to Simon's final paragraph.]
Firing Up For Action
It's now or never, Brethren. The Divine Society of the One True Apostolic Catholic Church is the spiritual kingdom of Israel promised to the seed of Abraham (Romans 4:16). And God does not abandon the true remnant of Israel (Psalm 97). The Psalmist affirms this for us when he writes, "They are God's friends who were never friends to wrong; souls that are true to Him He guards ever, rescues them from the power of evil doers. Dawn of hope for the innocent, dawn of gladness for honest hearts!" (Psalm 96) and again "Those who trust in the Lord are strong as mount Sion itself, that stands unmoved forever. The hills protect Jerusalem, so the Lord protects His people now and forever. How should the Lord allow wicked men to bear sway over the innocent and tempt the innocent to share in their evil doings?" (Psalm 124) Indeed now is the time to get over the inferiority complex pushed on us by the world and ask the Lord in faith for our inheritance. After all, if God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31) Just as the sacrifice of Noah pleased the Lord enough to relent from ever destroying His people again (Genesis 8:21), so we hope that our prayers and penance may rise up as a pleasing incense to Almighty God to delay the wrath of His justice on His House. May we all be of one heart and one mind as Our Lord has asked, in this, the Church's hour of need. Let us Pray: Protect Thy people, O Lord, and preserve them by Thy continual defense, who trust in the patronage of Peter and Paul and all Thy other apostles. Let all Thy Saints we beseech Thee, O Lord, assist us everywhere; that while we venerate their merits, we may experience their patronage. Grant us Thy peace in our times and drive away all mischief from Thy Church. Dispose our way, our acts, and our wills in the good success of Thy salvation. Render to our benefactors everlasting blessings and to all the faithful departed grant eternal rest. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.
The counter-revolution must start now! - Down with Liberty, Equality and Fraternity and long live Obedience, Hierarchy and Fidelity!
Yes, long live obedience, hierarchy and fidelity! And it must begin with obedience to the legitimate hierarchy and fidelity to the Truths and Traditions of Holy Mother Church as these infrangible truths have always been taught for nearly 2000 years. Again, only those who have remained loyal or will be obedient without compromise to the Faith of their Fathers are eligible to select a worthy successor. Perhaps a fast will bring about a faster result, perhaps not.
But if we pray and trust in God to guide every authentic Catholic to do the right thing in seeking a true successor of Peter, then a fast is fine. It could move the true bishops to do what the laity and the Holy Ghost are calling them to do. Come together, unite and begin the rebuilding of Christ's Church, the healing of the Mystical Body. Fasting and prayer are the only answer left outside of action by the traditional bishops. And that is our prayer: That through the will of God and the power of the Holy Ghost, we implore Traditional Bishops to come together as One!
