Missa "Dicit Dóminus"

Commemoration of the Double Major Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple

GREEN Vestments

In today's Gospel, Jesus confounds the Pharisees, His enemies, who more than ever are compassing His ruin. His reply is full of divine wisdom and His words are more pertinent in these times than ever before for exactly what is happening within the newChurch is taking place as Our Lord warned from the "abomination of desolation" to even the elect being deceived. He holds out hope for all to stay the course for in the end the Son of man shall appear in the Heavens. That is why in his Epistle to the Colossians, St. Paul exhorts the Christian people to bring forth all manner of good works, in order that strengthened by the glorious might of Our Savior, they may bear all adversities with patience, joy and thanksgiving in order to reap the rewards of everlasting life.

Today is also the Double Major Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Just as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the feast of His Holy Name and His presentation in the Temple, so too the Church solemnizes the nativity of the Blessed Virgin, the feast of her holy name and her presentation in the Temple. The tradition that Mary when three years old was presented by her parents in the Temple in order to be brought up in the shadow of the tabernacle is first found in the apocryphal Gospels. It agrees, however, so completely with the sentiment of Catholic devotion concerning that part of the immaculate life of Mary not mentioned in the Gospel, that it found favor with Catholics too. It was celebrated in the East as early as the Sixth Century. It was introduced in the West by the agency of Philippe de Maizieres, envoy of the King of Cyprus to the papal Court of Avignon. He described the festival as celebrated in the East in such glowing colors that Pope Gregory XI introduced it into the Calendar of the Curia. Mary was brought by her parents to the Temple at Jerusalem in order that the Rod of Jesse from whence the Flower of Nazareth would blossom should be preserved from all danger In the shadow of the sanctuary. This should be a lesson to all, but especially to parents who cannot guard the innocence of their children more surely than by accustoming them from an early age to prayer and to frequent reception of the sacraments.

We want to thank the Friends of Our Lady of Fatima for expediting these resources of the Propers. Sources: Saint Andrew Daily Missal and the Marian Missal , 1945

Léctio Epístolæ beáti Pauli Apóstoli ad Colossénses. GOSPEL:    Matthew 24: 15-35

Dominus vobiscum.
R. Et cum spiritu tuo.
Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum Matthaeum.
R.Gloria tibi, Domine

Laus tibi Christe.

The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.
The continuation of the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
R. Glory to Thee, O Lord

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: "When you shall see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (he that readeth, let him understand:) then they that are in Judea, let them flee to the mountains and he that is on the housetop, let him not come down to take anything out of his house and he that is in the field, let him not go back to take his coat. And woe to them that are with child and that give suck, in those days. But pray that your flight be not in the winter, or on the sabbath: for there shall be then great tribulation, such as hath not been found from the beginning of the world until now, neither shall be: and unless those days had been shortened, no flesh should be saved but for the sake of the elect, those days shall be shortened. Then if any man shall say to you: Lo, here is Christ, or there do not believe him for there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. Behold I have told it to you beforehand. If therefore they shall say to you: Behold, he is in the desert, go ye not out. Behold He is in the closets, believe it not. For as lightning cometh out of the east, and appeareth even into the west, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be: Wheresoever the body shall be, there shall the eagles also be gathered together. And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of heaven shall be moved and then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in Heaven, and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of Heaven with much power and majesty. And He shall send His angels with a trumpet and a loud voice, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest parts of the Heavens to the utmost bounds of them. And from the fig tree learn a parable: when the branch thereof is now tender, and the leaves come forth, you know that summer is nigh. So you also, when you shall see all these things, know ye that ìt is nigh at the doors. Amen I say to you that this generation shall not pass till all these things be done. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away."
Praise be to Christ

PREFACE   of the Most Holy Trinity

Dominus vobiscum.
R. Et cum spiritu tuo.
Sursum corda.
R.Habemus ad Dominum.
Gratias agamus Domino Deo nostro.

SANCTUS, SANCTUS, SANCTUS...

The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
R.We have lifted them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is meet and just.

It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, ever-lasting God: Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, are one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out with one voice saying:
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY...
