THE CONCLUSION OF THE HOLY MASS    
ACTS OF THANKSGIVING

From the ABLUTIONS to the LEONINE PRAYERS

"Go ye into the whole world and preach the gospel to every creature." (John 6: 55)

THE PRAYERS DURING THE ABLUTIONS

The Communion is a liturgical act. Let us then make our thanksgiving with the Priest who thanks God in the name of the Church. This is the best way of making the very thanksgiving that Jesis in our hearts gives to God the Father.

For the Ablutions, the Priest moves to the Epistle side of the Altar steps and holds out the Chalice to the Mass Server (or the Deacon/or Sub-Deacon at Solemn High Masses) who pours wine into it for the first ablution as the Priest consumes the unconsecrated wine and says the following prayer:


Corpus tuum, Domine, quod sumpsi, et Sanguis, quem potavi, adhaereat visceribus meis: et praesta; ut in me non remaneat scelerum macula, quem pura et sancta refecerunt sacramenta: Qui vivis et regnas in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

May Thy Body, O Lord, which I have received, and Thy Blood which I have drunk, cleave to my bowels; and grant that no stain of sin may remain in me, who have been fed with this pure and holy Sacrament; Who livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen.
The Priest then returns to the Mass Server at the side steps of the Epistle side and, with his fingers extended over the chalice, allows the Server to pour the remainder of wine and water over his fingers into the Chalice. The Priest returns to the center of the Altar where he consumes this and purifies the Chalice and Paten, then folds up the Corporal, placing it folded over the Chalice. Then taking the Pall he places it on top of the Chalice and retrieves the Purificator which he places inside the Burse and sets it upon the Chalice and veil.

While the Priest is doing this the Altar Server genuflects at the center of the Altar and retrieves the Missal from the Gospel side of the Altar, back to the foot of the Altar and then places it on the Epistle side of the Altar. If there are more than one Mass Servers or at a Solemn High Mass, the other Server or Sub-deacon simultaneously retrieves the Chalice veil from the Epistle side to the Gospel side. They genuflect together at the center of the foot of the Altar and proceed to their destinations, afterwards bowing towards the Priest and Tabernacle.


THE COMMUNION ANTIPHON

The Priest returns to the Missal on the Epistle side where he prays the Communion Antiphon from the PROPER OF THE DAY.

At the conclusion of the Communion Verse, the Priest returns to the center of the Altar, bows and kisses the Altar and turns to the Faithful saying:



V. Dominus vobiscum.
R. Et cum spiritu tuo.
V. Oremus.

V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.
V. Let us pray.

THE POSTCOMMUNION PRAYERS

The Priest returns to the Missal where he reads POSTCOMMUNION PRAYER from the PROPER OF THE HOLY MASS Once the Priest completes the Prayer he closes the Book and the Altar Server responds: Amen.

THE DISMISSAL

The Priest returns to the center of the Altar and turns to the Faithful, pronouncing:
V. Dominus vobiscum.
R. Et cum spiritu tuo.
V. Ite, Missa est.
R. Deo gratias.
    If the Gloria in excelsis has not been said, there is said instead of the "ITE, MISSA EST" the following:
V. Benedicamus Domino..
R. Deo gratias.
    At Solemn High Masses the Deacon chants the ITE MISSA EST
      For Requiem Masses the following is pronounced:
    V. Requiescant in pace..
    R. Amen.
      During Easter and Easter Week, an "Alelulia, alleluia" is added at the end of each response.

V. The Lord be with you.
R. And also with you.
V. Go, the Mass is ended.
R. Thanks be to God.
    If the Glory in the highest has not been said, there is said instead of the "ITE, MISSA EST" the following:
V. Let us bless the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.
    At Solemn High Masses the Deacon chants the ITE MISSA EST
      For Requiem Masses the following is pronounced:
    V. May they rest in peace.
    R. Amen.
      During Easter and Easter Week, an "Alelulia, alleluia" is added at the end of each response.

THE FINAL BLESSING

The Priest bows down and dwells briefly on the end for which he has offered to God, through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Victim of Calvary as he prays the BLESSING PRAYER below before turning to the Faithful and invoking upon them the blessing of God and making over them the Sign of the Cross. Note: This Blessing is omitted in Requiem Masses.
Placeat tibi, sancta Trinitas, obsequium servitutis meae: et praesta: ut sacrificium, quod oculis tuae maiestatis indignus obtulit, tibi sit acceptabile, mihique et omnibus, pro quibus illud obtuli, sit, te miserante, propitiabile. Per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.

V. Benedicat vos omnipotens Deus, Pater, et Filius, et Spiritus Sanctus.

R. Amen.

May the performance of my homage be pleasing to Thee, O holy Trinity: and grant that the Sacrifice which I, though unworthy, have offered up in the sight of Thy Majesty, may be acceptable to Thee, and through Thy mercy, be a propitiation for me, and for all those for whom I have offered it. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

V. May almighty God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, bless you.

R. Amen.

THE LAST GOSPEL

All stand as the Priest moves to the far Gospel side where he reads the Gospel of John 1: 1-14 from the Mass Card on the Gospel side. At his response of the GLORIA TIBI, DOMINE Priest, Mass Server and the Faithful all make the Sign of the Cross on their foreheads, lips and breasts before the Priest reads the Gospel.

V. The beginning of the holy Gospel according to John. R. Glory be to Thee, O Lord.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him, and without Him was made nothing that was made: in Him was life, and the life was the Light of men; and the Light shineth in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to testify concerning the Light, that all might believe through Him. He was not the Light, be he was to testify concerning the Light. That was the true Light, which enlighteneth every man that cometh into this world. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him to them He gave power to become sons of God, to them that believe in His Name, who are born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

AND THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH,
and dwelt among us: and we saw His glory, the glory as of the Only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Priest returns to the center of the Altar, bows and descends the Altar to kneel at the bottom step with the Server to say the Leonine Prayers, the Prayers ordered by Pope Leo XIII which, for was unbelieveably discontinued by Paul VI. What a horror, but then it was he who ushered in "the abomination of desolation" with the pagan Modernist, Masonic ritual known as the Novus Ordo - the New Order 'Mess' which, of course is no Mass at all, but a great sacrilege to God. Note: At Solemn High Masses the Leonine Prayers are omitted in favor of a Hymm. This does not apply at Low Masses.

LEONINE PRAYERS AT THE END OF HOLY MASS
V. Ave Maria, gratia plena Dominus tecum, benedicta tu in mulieribus et benedictus fructis ventris tui, Jesus. Repeated three times

R. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen. Repeated three times

V. Salve Regina, Mater misericordiae, vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Evae.
Ad te suspiramus gementes et flentes in hac lacrymarum valle.
Eia ergo, Advocata nostra, illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte.
Et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui, nobis, post hoc exilium, ostende.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

V. LET US PRAY.
O God, our Refuge and our Strength, look down in mercy on Thy people who cry to Thee: and by the intercession of the glorious and immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of St. Joseph her Spouse, of Thy blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and of all the Saints, in mercy and goodness hear our prayers for the conversion of sinners, and for the freedom and exaltation of our holy Mother the Church. Through the same Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle: be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. - May God rebuke him, we humbly pray: and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
R. Amen.
