A Country at a Crossroads: Pardon or Perdition?

It is obvious we've allowed ourselves to become confused. The signals are mixed. Stop or Go, or proceed with caution? We have too many signs and not enough conviction. If we love him, we would keep His commandments. Many Americans have not. The great majority of Americans have spurned His love and are deserving of the chastisements that have begun visiting our shores and our families. Whole-hearted prayer and fasting is the way back to God's good graces. That begins in earnest May 1st for 40 days leading up to the Eve of the Feast of Corpus Christi. How you respond will show how important this crisis is to you and your Faith.

Tomorrow is the first day of May, the month of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, the month she first appeared to the Fatima children 87 years ago to warn them of what was to come if they did not heed Heaven, pray the Rosary and take their Faith seriously. As we can clearly see, the enemy has penetrated the inner sanctum and prevented God's Ordaining Will from triumphing to this point. Yet we know that Our Lady assured the children "in the end My Immaculate Heart will triumph." But until then, well, strap in folks. If you think it's been rocky so far, you ain't seen nothin' yet!

In re-emphasizing what we wrote on the ides of March Et tu, Presidente?, we have arrived at the time when it is absolutely necessary to don sackcloth and ashes and to emulate in these desperate times, the Ninivites who heeded Jonas' prophesy and dire warning for "Who can tell if God will turn, and forgive: and will turn away from His fierce anger, and we shall not perish?" (Jonas 3: 9). We had written then an open letter to President George W. Bush in endorsing what Bill Keller of had wisely advocated. Yet, sadly, Bush showed his true colors this past week by openly campaigning for a pro-abort Republican Arlen Specter against a dedicated pro-life Republican in Pat Toomey Not only he, but supposedly pro-life Republican Senator Rick Santorum also betrayed Christ by campaigning against Congressman Toomey. Both Toomey and Santorum are Catholics and yet Santorum threw his hat in with the likes of mammon. So much for integrity.

As we wrote in March, the concept for an emergency 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting (in addition to Lent this year) was first offered by Keller, a Protestant evangelist. He did communicate with Bush, but Bush, afraid of political correctness unlike the king of the Ninivites, chose to back off and authorize Keller himself to lead the charge. Keller has publicly affirmed that because of Bush's refusal to accept "that special role God called him to play in leading this nation back to the God of the Bible FOR THAT REASON, HE WILL NOT BE RE-ELECTED. There are six specific areas President Bush has failed in, and these are the reasons why he will not be re-elected as President of the United States of America this November. "

Those words of Keller's are not one who is a John Kerry fan; far, far from it for Protestants are much more savvy as to his hypocritical ways, his total disregard for the sanctity of life. Unlike the bishops and their dumbed-down flocks of modern Catholics, they will not support Kerry unless they are died-in-the-wool pro-abort Democrats. It pains Keller greatly to have to say what he did just as it pains us that so many Catholics today don't realize America is no longer committed to God, no longer under the protection of the Immaculate Conception, no longer intent on family values, no longer seeking the Sovereign Kingship of Jesus Christ. No, temporal matters have totally clouded their thinking and so the issues that count don't count to the common voter.

As I have noted here often, I have disagreed many times with Bill Keller and his Protestant mind-set, yet he has shown more courage than any American wearing a miter and pectoral cross. And so, rather than Cardinal Theodore McCarrick kneeling on the pavement before the White House tomorrow - for that would be beneath the Archbishop of Washington D.C. since he is on record as saying the sins of others are not his business - it is left to Keller to represent all Christians in leading others to understand the vital necessity for our nation to fast and pray, to put on sackcloth and ashes in repentance for our evil ways. Though we cannot be there with him physically, we are with him in spirit for the sake of America's soul. It is doubtful Keller will get much coverage from the secular media and if so, as more of a kook than anything else. But Keller's heart is sincere and his desire for America to be reconciled with God is also sincere.

It is no secret that Abraham could not find ten just men in all of Sodom and Gomorrah. The same fate threatened Ninevah, but the king heeded Jonas' warning and plea and he himself put on sackcloth and ashes in setting the example for his subjects. You won't find that from any of today's leaders to whom too many Americans place their hopes in both matters of state and the church. If any leader is not completely and uncompromisingly committed to the total prevention of abortion and contraception, than all other issues don't amount to a hill of beans. There is no bishop in the Novus Ordo church who exhibits such courage and that includes Archbishop Raymond Burke for they are all talk and no action. Just the fact they continue to perpetuate the Masonic synthetic rite of the New Order is evidence enough that they are not sincere.

As I wrote in my editorial True Field of Dreams, what happened to the Machabees with the "abomination of desolation...standing in the holy place" and which Christ foretold in Matthew 24: 15 occurred on the feast of Passover April 3, 1969 when Paul VI ushered his abominable MIssale Romanum Missae which sought to extinguish forever the Immemorial Traditional Mass of All Ages. Like Judas Machabeus and his small band of faithful, we too must never give up our fight to preserve the Truths and Traditions of Holy Mother Church against the same kind of desolation that visited the Machabees. Though the dedicated band of Traditional Catholics are few in numbers when weighed against the overwhelming number of lukewarm souls, we must continue to fight the heresies of today and preserve the Traditional Latin Mass at all costs. Just as there will only be a handful in Washington D.C. tomorrow to mark the beginning of a voluntary, but necessary 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting this year, it is amazing how a few will go a long way with God to atone for the atrocious blasphemy that occurred a week ago when so many pagans marched for murder. Keller won't find the following passages in his bible since the Book of Machabees is one of the six books that Martin Luther omitted, thus violating the very tenets of Divine Revelation. As we pointed out in Thursday's sixteenth installment of our mega-series A Chronicle of Catholic Tradition there was no bible until Saint Jerome translated all the texts from Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic and compiled it into the Latin Vulgate. So how was the Word passed down? By Sacred Tradition of course.

And so, though we are but a few, we take courage in Judas Machabeus' words in 1 Machabees 3: 18-22:

"It is an easy matter for many to be shut up in the hands of a few: and there is no difference in the sight of the God of Heaven to deliver with a great multitude, or with a small company: for the success of war is not the multitude of the army, but strength cometh from Heaven. They come against us with an insolent multitude and with pride, to destroy us, and our wives, and our children, and to take our spoils. But we will fight for our lives, and our laws: and the Lord Himself will overthrow them before our face: but as for you, fear them not."

To prepare they fasted and "put on haircloth, and put ashes upon their heads: and they rent their garments" (1 Mach 3: 47) for Judas Machabeus trusted in God saying, "Gird yourselves, and be valiant men, and be ready against the morning, that you may fight with these nations that are assembled against us, to destroy us and our sanctuary. For it is better for us to die in battle, than to see th eevils of our nation, and of the holies: Nevertheless, as it shall be the will of God in Heaven, so be it done" (1 Mach 3: 58-60).

This message was carried out in the New Testament by Christ with the Lord's Prayer and His assurance to "Be not afraid" and by the Apostle Paul, specifically in Ephesians 6: 11-18, for girding our souls in protection is paramount. And yet, as I have written before and as we have so sadly seen, where are the shepherds when it comes to protecting their flock? Nowhere to be found. They are the ones who have relaxed the rules except where it truly counts, they are the ones we must pray and fast for in making atonement for their wickedness. Consider earlier in 1 Machabees 1: 12-16:

"In those days there went out of Israel wicked men, and they persuaded many, saying: Let us go, and make a covenant with the heathens that are round about us: for since we departed from them, many evils have befallen us. And the word seemed good in their eyes. And some of the people determined to do this, and went to the king: and he gave them license to do after the ordinances of heathens. And they built a place of exercise in Jerusalem, according to the laws of the nations: And they made themselves prepuces, and departed from the holy covenant, and joined themselves to the heathens, and were sold to do evil."

Think about that and ask yourself is this not exactly what has happened to the New Jerusalem - the Church Christ founded? Have not the modern rulers sold out to the devil by departing from the holy covenant Our Lord established? And have they not taken up lustful lives and condoned sexual sins and other aberrations against God by their silent consent? The answer, sadly, is a resounding Yes!

And the results? Exactly what happened to the Israelites of old as recorded in 1 Machabees 1: 25:

"And he made a great slaughter of men, and spoke very proudly. And there was great mourning in Israel, and in every place where they were: And the princes, and the ancients mourned, and the virgins and the young men were made feeble, and the beauty of women was changed. Every bridegroom took up lamentation: and the bride that sat in the marriage bed, mourned: And the land was moved for the inhabitants thereof, and all the house of Jacob was covered with confusion."

Consider the bride - the Mystical Bride of Christ - in mourning and She has been thus since the death of the last Traditional Roman Pontiff Pius XII. Though we do not assume to subscribe to the definitive sede vacantist stance because we as lay persons are not qualified to judge the soul or intent of the Supreme Pontiffs - only their actions, there is one out there who has made no bones about comparing the four kings in Machabees to the four conciliar popes as anti-popes. In much of what he documents, he has some very viable points that do point to the same plight of the Machabees revisiting us these past 40 years. We will not go so far as to proclaim these popes 'anti-Christs' as he has done, let us just say they have been very, very BAD POPES who have enabled the evil one to make great gains, empowering abortion and sodomy. As to the fruits, well Christ clearly identifies what Vatican II has wrought in Matthew 7: 15-20 for indeed a bad tree cannot bear good fruit and a good tree could never yield bad fruit. "By their fruits you shall know them" (Matthew 7: 20)

Amidst all the confusion that exists today just as in the time of the Machabees, we must stand with Judas Machabeus and resist the agendas of today's leaders that definitely harm the spiritual welfare of souls and Christ's holy Church. Just as in Machabees evil begot evil, so also today we find the same problems. Men who have replaced false shepherds have themselves adopted the same vile traits. Is it in the Novus Ordo water or what? It is no secret Paul VI was not only a bad, bad Pope who we pray at least made it to Purgatory though we have our doubts, for the offenses against God he committed not only included instituting the "abomination of desolation" with the creation of a man-made Protestant service - the The Great Sacrilege as Father James F. Wathen so nobly and valiantly wrote in 1971 and has yet to be refuted for his words are true - but Paul VI is also suspected of spawning and legitimizing the sodomite agenda whose ugly side has finally been revealed to the world. Atila Sinke Guimaraes documents this in his latest book in his Eli, Eli, Lamma sabbacthani series Vatican II, Homosexuality and Pedophilia and specifically suspicions of Paul VI's perversity on pages 158-162. Ah, yes, the bitter and vile fruits of Vatican II! And we wonder why so many are confused?

We read further in 1 Machabees 38-42:

"And this was a place to lie in wait against the sanctuary, and an evil devil in Israel. And they shed innocent blood round about the sanctuary, and defiled the holy place. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem fled away by reason of them, and the city was made the habitation of strangers, and she became a stranger to her own seed, and her children forsook her. Her sanctuary was desolate like a wilderness, here festival days were turned into mourning, her sabbaths into reproach, her honors were brought to nothing. Her dishonor was increased according to her glory, and her excellency was turned into mourning."

Is this not exactly what has happened to the New Jerusalem in the last 40 years? Have not the Faith of our Fathers become a stranger in this new novelty created from Masonic and Modernist means of destruction? Have not many of her children forsaken the Roman Catholic Church because She no longer provides the steady stern and moral compass that steered so confidently and straight the Barque of Peter prior to the sixties? Despite all the plaudits and false figures that try to justify progress, there is none for her honors have been brought to nothing. With the breaking of the sex scandal, which this editor still asserts is only the tip of the satanic iceberg, her dishonor is increasing. The magnificence of the Faith and excellency that once was has been turned into mourning. No doubt about that.

Bill Keller and I disagree on the 'rights' of the Jews for he insists that Palestinians are not entitled to their land for that was specifically given to the children of Israel. Yes, in the Old Testament! But the Old Testament was replaced entirely by the New Testament. It is a dogma of the Church that the New has superseded the Old Testament. At the dogmatic Council of Florence it was infallibly decreed by Pope Eugene IV the following:

"It firmly believes, professes and teaches that the legal prescriptions of the old Testament or the Mosaic law, which are divided into ceremonies, holy sacrifices and sacraments, because they were instituted to signify something in the future, although they were adequate for the divine cult of that age, once our lord Jesus Christ who was signified by them had come, came to an end and the sacraments of the new Testament had their beginning. Whoever, after the passion, places his hope in the legal prescriptions and submits himself to them as necessary for salvation and as if faith in Christ without them could not save, sins mortally. It does not deny that from Christ's passion until the promulgation of the gospel they could have been retained, provided they were in no way believed to be necessary for salvation. But it asserts that after the promulgation of the gospel they cannot be observed without loss of eternal salvation. Therefore it denounces all who after that time observe circumcision, the sabbath and other legal prescriptions as strangers to the faith of Christ and unable to share in eternal salvation, unless they recoil at some time from these errors. Therefore it strictly orders all who glory in the name of Christian, not to practise circumcision either before or after baptism, since whether or not they place their hope in it, it cannot possibly be observed without loss of eternal salvation."

It was at this same Council that the dogma of no salvation outside the Church was re-emphasized, "At his coming all shall rise again with their bodies, and shall give an account of their own deeds. Those who have done good shall go into eternal life, but those who have done evil shall go into eternal fire. This is the Catholic faith. Unless a person believes it faithfully and firmly, he cannot be saved" and again in the eleventh Session of February 4, 1442

It firmly believes, professes and preaches that all those who are outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless they are joined to the catholic church before the end of their lives; that the unity of the ecclesiastical body is of such importance that only for those who abide in it do the church's sacraments contribute to salvation and do fasts, almsgiving and other works of piety and practices of the Christian militia produce eternal rewards; and that nobody can be saved, no matter how much he has given away in alms and even if he has shed his blood in the name of Christ, unless he has persevered in the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church. "

About a month ago Mel Gibson was interviewed on Sean Hannity's radio program on plans for future projects. Mel announced he was thinking of making a biblical film on the account of Judas Machabeus and the Machabees. Brilliant! Pure brilliance. In one stroke he will further throw into turmoil the comfort zones of Protestants, Catholics and Jews. The Jews because it was from the plight of the Machabees that Hannukah evolved (1 Mach 4: 59) with the eight day "Feast of Dedications." I guarantee you Mel will do it justice in the truest sense, quite possibly clashing with revisionist historians who have adopted a different Judaism. The Protestants, well, they'll have to start asking some serious questions like: "Why were the two books of Machabees and five other necessary Scriptures - the Book of Tobias, Judith, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus, and Baruch dropped from the King James version and all Protestant versions since Luther? Is it not a fact of Divine Revelation and the constituted evangelic Traditions of the Church that if anything is added or removed from the Holy Scriptures let them be anathema? It should definitely start a storm of conversation that might just wake up many Protestants to the truth of where the True Faith lies and why. God bless Mel.

Finally, Catholics will be faced with the truth of the 'abomination of desolation' and the agenda of the newChurch in working toward a One World Religion for the very same occurred in the time of Judas Machabeus, specifically 1 Machabees 44-62. Though it is long, I encourage you to read this passage from the Douay-Rheims very carefully and contemplate the similarities of today's Catholics who have surrendered in blind obedience to those people of Israel who did likewise:

"And all nations consented according to the word of king Antiochus. And many of Israel consented to his service, and they sacrificed to idols, and profaned the sabbath. And the king sent letters by the hands of messengers to Jerusalem, and to all the cities of Juda: that they should follow the law of the nations of the earth, And should forbid holocausts and sacrifices, and atonements to be made in the temple of God. And should prohibit the sabbath, and the festival days, to be celebrated. And he commanded the holy places to be profaned, and the holy people of Israel. And he commanded altars to be built, and temples, and idols, and swine's flesh to be immolated, and unclean beasts. And that they should leave their children uncircumcised, and let their souls be defiled with all uncleannesses, and abominations, to the end that they should forget the law, and should change all the justifications of God. And that whosoever would not do according to the word of king Antiochus should be put to death. According to all these words he wrote to his whole kingdom, and he appointed rulers over the people that should force them to do these things. And they commanded the cities of Juda to sacrifice. Then many of the people were gathered to them that had forsaken the law of the Lord: and they committed evils in the land: And they drove away the people of Israel into lurking holes, and into the secret places of fugitives. On the fifteenth day of the month Casleu, in the hundred and forty-fifth year, king Antiochus set up the abominable idol of desolation upon the altar of God, and they built altars throughout all the cities of Juda round about: And they burnt incense, and sacrificed at the doors of the houses, and in the streets. And they cut in pieces, and burnt with fire the books of the law of God: And every one with whom the books of the testament of the Lord were found, and whosoever observed the law of the Lord, they put to death, according to the edict of the king. Thus by their power did they deal with the people of Israel, that were found in the cities month after month. And on the five and twentieth day of the month they sacrificed upon the altar of the idol that was over against the altar of God."

Perhaps, with God's grace they will wake up to the fact that the Novus Ordo is the very same "altar of the idol" which has been placed "over against the altar of God." Perhaps they will see that the Vatican's call for peace and religious liberty is only a masquerade for establishing a loyalty to man-made laws over God's laws, in abdicating the Church's proper authority to the satanic UN. I refer you to James Harder's piece in RELIGION - U.N. Faithful Eye Global Religion which is concord with what Paul VI first approached back in the seventies on his visit to the UN in New York in which he wore the Jewish Ephod, causing scandal to not only Catholics but those who did not understand the significance. No Catholic can to this day explain or rationalize the significance other than selling out! John Paul II has done nothing to alter this course and, indeed, only cast all deeper into confusion by silently condoning the devastation that has continued as abuses mount in every aspect of the Faith. While he has given lip service to how dangerous they are, he has DONE NOTHING to curb it or halt it. No anathemas or condemnations have been pronounced so it is doubtful John Kerry will be skewered for his persistent sin despite Cardinal Francis Arinze's latest band-aid Redemptionis Sacramentus. Such is the lukewarmness of the ecumaniacs.

No, we can not place our hope in man to extricate us from this mess we have made for ourselves. We must appeal to God and show Him our sincerity by fasting and praying, by putting on sackcloth and ashes and repenting of our evil ways. I know I'm preaching to the choir but we, too, are most susceptible to the evil one's wiles. We can grow complacent in our work, or think the chastisements are only for those who deserve it. No, my friends, the good will suffer as well, even moreso for their hearts will indeed be wrenched. The hard and cold hearts will not be able to feel that. Just as Our Lady's Most Sorrowful Heart was so heavy, so too should ours be for these are indeed troubled, trying and terrible times. We should be terrified and fall on our knees, throwing ourselves on the mercy of God. But we are too proud, too wrapped up in temporal things to focus on priorities of the soul. Because of this neglect, we no longer are properly prepared for spiritual warfare. In a future editorial I will delve more on the garment - the "sackcloth" if you will, which must represent our apparel in these times. Our garment must bear the fiber of the cross which to Jew and pagan gentiles is a stumbling block.

So while the bishops form yet another committee to study that which needs no study for it is doctrine and God's law, I simply refer to Romans 1: 16-32, where the Apostle Paul describes exactly what has happened because the church of Vatican II shed its garment of grace and made itself vulnerable to the vagaries and vulgarities of the world. For this we must make atonement. Paul further says in Chapter 4 of Romans, vs. 32-33:

"But Israel, in following after the law of justice, is not come to the law of justice. Why so? because they sought it not by faith, but as it were of works: for they stumbled at the stumbling-stone; as it is written: 'Behold I lay in Sion a stumbling-stone, and a rock of scandal: and whosoever believeth in Him, shall not be confounded."

Thus we should not be confused, we should not worry, but we should gird ourselves in the armor of God which first calls for the boot camp uniform of sackcloth and ashes in humble obedience to God's will and full repentance for those grave sins which so greatly offend Christ's Sacred Heart and His Blessed Mother's Immaculate Heart, not to mention the Almighty Eternal Father and the Sanctifier - the Holy Ghost. Therefore, we urge all to join us in this effort to make amends with an additional 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting for our nation which is so in dire need of prayer and atonement. It is a necessary Second Lent that is necessary, so necessary this year for it is a fact for every American to realize, especially every loyal Catholic. With all the flag-waving and patriotism, it means nothing if we do not uphold God's Divine Laws and reinstitute the United States as truly united with Him as our Sovereign King. It is a fact and we are responsible for imploring the merciful God for the answer to the question: a country at a crossroad: pardon or perdition?!
