This year on December 8th we commemorate the 160th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception. The painting to the near right depicts Pope Pius IX proclaiming ex cathedra this beautiful dogma of the Blessed Virgin Mary ever pure, Mother of the Son of God Jesus Christ, crowned with twelve stars on the farthest right. The United States is consecrated to the Immaculate Conception.

In view of the merits of her Divine Son, Mary, your Mother, alone enjoyed the privilege of being preserved from Original Sin. From the moment of her conception God willed that she would crush the head of the serpent, having decided from all eternity to make her the Mother of the Incarnate Word. Mary was never, even for an instant, subject to the evil spirit. She was always in the state of Sanctifying Grace. On December 8th, 1854 Pius IX officially proclaimed this great dogma, making himself the mouthpiece of all Christian tradition. Take the Immaculate Virgin as the special protectress of the purity of your body and soul. Say three Hail Marys each morning and evening in honor of her Immaculate Conception for the grace of holy purity.

"A great sign appeared in Heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars" (Apocalypse 12: 1)

    Priest:
Let us celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary! Let us adore her Son, Christ our Lord!
    Glory be to the Father...

    All:
Thou art all fair, O Mary, and the stain of Original Sin is not in thee. Thy garments are white as snow, and thy face is like the sun.
      Hail Mary...

Thou art the glory of Jerusalem; thou art the Joy of Israel; thou art the Honor of our people (Judith 15: 10). Thou art the brightness of eternal light, and the image of His goodness (Wisdom 7: 26).
       Hail Mary...

More than all other women upon earth, thou, O Virgin Mary, hast been blessed by the Lord God most high. Draw us, O Immaculate Virgin; we shall come after thee, breathing the sweet fragrance of thy virtues (Canticles 1: 3).
       Hail Mary...

Mary speaks:

"I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, and my soul shall be joyful in my God, for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, and with the robe of holiness. He has covered me as a bride adorned with her jewels" Isaias 61: 10

Today a branch grew out of the root of Jesse; today Mary was conceived without stain of sin; today she crushed the head of the ancient serpent. Grace abounds in her Conception, and she has appeared as the fairest of the daughters of men.

Hymn

    Priest:
O stainless Mother of the Lord
    While we thy glory chant,
A gracious ear to us accord
    And Heavenly favor grant.

    Response:
    A sad inheritance we own;
    In guilt our lives begin;
    Exempt from Adam's fall alone,
    Thou never knewest sin.

    Priest:
Prone on the earth beneath thy heel
    The serpent's head remained;
Thou only doest to Heaven reveal
    An origin unstained.

    Response:
Do thou whose glory takes away
    The shame of Mother Eve,
Accept the tribute that we pay
    And all our wants relieve.

    Priest:
From Satan's every dart and snare
    Our weakened souls defend,
That so thy glory we may share,
    In joys that never end.

    All:
To Thee, O Jesus, glory meet,
    The Virgin Mary's Son;
    To Father and to Paraclete
    Be equal honor done. Amen.

Priest: Pray for us, O Immaculate Virgin.
Response: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

    Prayer

O God, Who by the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin didst make ready a fitting habitation for Thy Son, we beseech Thee that Thou Who didst keep her clean from all stain by the precious death of the same Thy Son, foreseen by Thee, mayest grant unto us in like manner to be made clean through her intercession and so attain unto Thee. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Little Office of the Immaculate Conception

Prayer Before the Office

Come, Holy Ghost, fill the hearts of Thy faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.

V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray

O God, Who dost instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Ghost, grant that, by the same Spirit, we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in His consolation Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Open, O Lord, my mouth to bless Thy Holy Name; cleanse my heart from all vain, evil and distracting thoughts; enlighten my understanding, inflame my will, that I may worthily recite this Office with attention and devotion, and deserve to be heard in the presence of Thy Divine Majesty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Lord, in union with that Divine intention with which Thou didst praise God on earth, I offer to Thee these hours.

      The dragon by thee

           Submitting to shame,
      A little more low

      Thou wrapt in the blaze

R. Pray for us to the Father, Whose Son thou didst bear.

Let us pray.

O God, Who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a worthy habitation for Thy Son, we beseech Thee that, as by the foresight of His death Thou didst exempt her from all stain, so we, purified by her intercession, may come to Thee, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.

St. Louis Marie de Montfort's Prayer to Mary

Hail Mary, beloved Daughter of the Eternal Father! Hail Mary, admirable Mother of the Son! Hail Mary, faithful Spouse of the Holy Ghost! Hail Mary, my dear Mother, my loving mistress, my powerful sovereign! Hail my joy, my glory, my heart and my soul! Thou art all mine by mercy, and I am all thine by justice. But I am not yet sufficiently thine. I now give myself wholly to thee, without keeping anything back for myself or others. If thou still seest in me anything which does not belong to thee, I beseech thee to take it and to make thyself the absolute mistress of all that is mine. Destroy in me all that may be displeasing to God, root it up and bring it to naught; place and cultivate in me everything that is pleasing to thee.

May the light of thy faith dispel the darkness of my mind; may thy profound humility take the palce of my pride; may thy sublime contemplation check the distractions of my wandering imagination; may thy continuous sight of God fill my memory with His presence; may the burning love of thy Heart inflame the lukewarmness of mine; may thy virtues take the place of my sins; may thy merits be my only adornment in the sight of God and make up for all that is wanting in me. Finally, dearly beloved Mother, grant, if it be possible, that I may have no other spirit but thine to know Jesus and His divine will; that I may have no other soul but thine to praise and glorify the Lord; that I may have no other heart but thine to love God with a love as pure and ardent as thine. I do not ask thee for visions, revelations, sensible devotion or spiritual pleasures. It is thy privilege to see God clearly; it is thy privilege to enjoy heavenly bliss; it is thy privilege to triumph gloriously in Heaven at the right hand of thy Son and to hold absolute sway over angels, men and demons; it is thy privilege to dispose of all the gifts of God, just as thou willest.

Such is, O heavenly Mary, the "best part," which the Lord has given thee and which shall never be taken away from thee - and this thought fills my heart with joy. As for my part here below, I wish for no other than that which was thine: to believe sincerely without spiritual pleasure; to suffer joyfully without human consolation; to die continually to myself without respite; and to work zealously and unselfishly for thee until death as the humblest of thy servants. The only grace I beg thee to obtain for me is that every day and every moment of my life I may say: Amen - so be it, to all thou didst do while on earth; Amen - so be it, to all that thou art doing now in Heaven; Amen - so be it, to all that thou art doing in my soul, so that thou alone mayest fully glorify Jesus, in me, for time and eternity. Amen.

St. Louis Marie de Montfort's Prayer to Jesus

O most loving Jesus, deign to let me pour forth my gratitude before Thee, for the grace Thou hast bestowed upon me in giving me to Thy holy Mother through the devotion of Holy Bondage, that she may be my advocate in the presence of Thy majesty and my support in my extreme misery. Alas, O Lord! I am so wretched that without this dear Motehr I should be certainly lost. Yes, Mary is necessary for me at Thy side and everywhere; that she may appease Thy just wrath, because I have so often offended Thee; that she may save me from the eternal punishment of Thy justice, which I deserve; that she may contemplate Thee, speak to Thee, pray to Thee, approach Thee and please Thee; that she may help me to save my soul and the souls of others; in short, Mary is necessary for me that I may always do Thy holy Will and seek Thy greater glory in all things. Ah, would that I could proclaim throughout the whole world the mercy that Thou hast shown to me! Would that everyone might know I should be already damned, were it not for Mary! Would that I might offer worthy thanksgiving for so great a blessing! Mary is in me. Oh, waht a treasure! Oh, what a consolation! And shall I not be entirely hers! Oh, what ingratitude! My dear Savior, send me death rather than such a calamity, for I would rathere die than live without belonging entirely to Mary. With St. John the Evangelist at the foot of the cross, I have taken her a thousand times for my own, and as many times have given myself to her; but if I have not yet done it as Thou, dear Jesus, dost wish, I now renew this offering as Thou dost desire me to renew it. And if Thou seest in my soul or my body anything that does not belong to this august princess, I pray Thee to take it and cast it far from me, for whatever in me does not belong to Mary is unworthy of Thee.

O Holy Ghost, grant me all these graces. Plant in my soul the Tree of true Life, which is Mary; cultivate it and tend it so that it may grow and blossom and bring forth the fruits of life in abundance. O Holy Ghost, give me great devotion to Mary, Thy faithful spouse; give me great confidence in her maternal heart and an abiding refuge in her mercy, so that by her Thou mayest truly form in me Jesus Christ, great and mighty, unto the fullness of His perfect age. Amen.

The Fatima Prayers

My God, I believe, I adore, I trust and I love Thee; and I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not trust, and do not love Thee.

(repeat the above 3 times then bow your head in reciting the following:)

O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in tabernacles throughout the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference by which He is offended. By the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in unison with the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners.

O Most Holy Trinity, I addore Thee! My God, my God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament!

O my Jesus, it is for love of Thee, in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary and for the conversion of poor sinners.

Prayer for Our Country

All: O Mary Immaculate! Guard with loving care this country dedicated to thee. Let thy purity keep it pure. Watch over its institutions. As thou art the Refuge of all sinners, this country is the refuge of the exiled and the oppressed. Guide it ever in the ways of peace. Let not its prosperity be its ruin. Alas! Many of its children who know not what they do, are walking in uncertain paths which are dark, and lead them away from truth. Mother of all, pray for us and plead for them, that we, thy children, may love and adore thy adorable Son with more fervent faith, and that those who are wandering in error's path may, through thy intercession, return to the one Fold of the True Shepherd - to thy Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
