Commemoration of Saint Marius and Companion Martyrs and Saint Canute King and Martyr

There is a commemoration of Saint Marius and Companion Martyrs. This included Martha his wife. Both were Persian nobles, who with their two sons, Audifax and Abachum came to Rome to worship God in the reign of Claudius II. There they visited Christians cast into prison for their faith. They devoted themselves in many ways to the service of religion: but soon they had themselves to suffer for the faith.

Without fearing the persecutors, they underwent all these torments with prayers of thanksgiving on their lips, for in them they saw the means of going to enjoy God for evermore. They were martyred in 270. Also commemorated today is the Danish King Saint Canute, martyred in 1086.
