Simon Peter never even suspected that Christ entrusted the primacy in the Church to him.

That's right because evidently these Modernists who spew such venom were there and knew the mind of Peter. We already know they claim to know the mind of Christ as previous errors against Modernism warned of in Lamentabili Sane by His Holiness Pope Saint Pius X have enumerated. Now they make the outrageous claim that Peter was so dense that he did not understand or believe the very words that came out of his own mouth when he said in St. Matthew 16: 16, "Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God." You see they leave out such convenient refutations to their ridiculous arguments. They also leave out our Lord's promise in the next verses where He says, "Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: becasue flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but My Father, Who is in Heaven. And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (St. Matthew 16: 17-18). If he didn't suspect such, why was he then, within the next few verses in St. Matthew 22: 22-23, telling our Lord not to speak of such things as of being "put to death, and the third day rise again"? From this passage it seems Peter was taking his duties so seriously that he overstepped his bounds while our Lord was still alive and so soon after he was appointed. Christ didn't mince words in putting Peter in his rightful place for daring to question Him as we see in the words Jesus employed: "Go after me, Satan, thou art a scandal unto Me: because thou dost not relish the things that are of God, but the things that are of men" (St. Matthew 16: 23). Isn't it interesting on two points, Peter's offense was actually to try to encourage Jesus not to speak of such things for He was the Son of God and, well, in Peter's finite mind how could the Son of God be killed? Think about it. Peter has already acknowledged Christ is the Son of the living God. Therefore, when he hears Christ speaking that the Scribes and chief priests will put Him to death, Peter doesn't want to hear such outrageous possibilities. Jesus rebuked him in order to get Peter and the rest of the Apostles focus on things of Heaven and not place such emphasis on earthly things, which are fleeting and will end in death. Death is final. But the difference here is that Christ will conquer death, and, by doing so, will open the gates of Heaven for all those who do as He says, specifically in the next verse 24-26, "If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoseover shall save his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for My sake, shall find it. For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul?" Believe us, Peter understood after He had said that. But remember, Peter was also human. The Holy Ghost had not descended upon him or the other Apostles yet. So, yes, in his fallen human nature he did panic and flee, even denying that he knew Jesus. He made up for it after that, first by repenting and then by giving every ounce of his life to build the Church Christ left him, to die for our Lord and do so in all humility by asking to be crucified upside down because he was not worthy to be crucified as His Master was. Now it would make sense if it were said that the conciliar "popes" never even suspected that the papacy entrusted to the Successors of Peter was divinely ordained because they sure don't act as if it were. They have denied Him repeatedly and mad this very obvious publicly from worshipping and offering incense to false idols as John Paul II did all in the name of insipid incultration, to Fr. Joseph Ratzinger's kowtowing in a mosque, offering praise to pagan gods, contradicting the New Testament and Christ by saying that the Old Testament was not completed. We could go on and on, but you get the picture. Peter's sin was infitesmal compared to the leaders of the counterfeit church of conciliarism beginning with heresy, apostasy, violation of the First Commandment and, in fact, every commandment. Remember, Peter was repentant. The conciliarists? Can you name one who has? We didn't think so. No, it's time to identify the Modernists for what they are: bold-faced liars who will use every trick in the book to appear 'Catholic' but in reality are far, far from it. Yet it is these very Modernists who dare to say Peter had no clue "that Christ entrusted the primacy in the Church to him." Puhlease!!!
