In many narrations the Evangelists recorded, not so much things that are true, as things which, even though false, they judged to be more profitable for their readers.
This is the great canard the Jews and even Evangelicals launch on the Evangelists, such as St. Matthew was anti-Jewish and St. John spoke in symbols or aesthetics and can't be taken literally. Au contraire, for every word of Holy Writ, especially the Gospels, is considered inerrant for it was inspired by the Holy Ghost Who is the Spirit sent by Christ after He ascended into Heaven to take His place at the right hand side of His Father. All that Jesus left us is infrangible truth, as we declare our undying allegiance and worship to the Most Holy Trinity when we say in the daily Act of Faith: "O my God, I firmly believe that Thou art one God in three divine Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. I believe that Thy divine Son became man and died for our sins and that He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches because Thou hast revealed them Who canst neither deceive nor be deceived." What more can be said? God said it, we believe it, that settles it. Anyone who subscribes to this fourteenth error is Anathema sit.
