Events today in Church History

For events throughout the centuries that are memorable in Church history today, click on TIME CAPSULES: ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME

Though it is not celebrated on this day since Vatican II, it is still a day to honor Saint Monica, mother of Saint Augustine. She is considered the Patron Saint of wives, widows, and for mothers of children in trouble or spiritually lost. For the countless mothers out there who pray constantly for their own children to be true to Jesus and His Church, we present this prayer to St. Monica from the Confraternity of the Precious Blood booklet, "My Daily Prayer."

O God, the Comforter of those who mourn and the Salvation of all who hope in Thee, Who didst mercifully regard the loving tears of Blessed Monica by willing the conversion of Augustine, her son, grant us, through their united intercession, grace to deplore our sins and so to find Thy pardon and favor. Through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

"The words from a man's mouth are deep waters, but the source of wisdom is a flowing brook."

Say "YES" to Jesus by saying "YES" to His Church on earth

Today we begin a discourse by Pope John Paul II on loyalty and fidelity to Holy Mother Church. It is important in these times when so many Catholics think they can pick and choose what they want to believe, to realize that all Christ taught is carried out by His Vicar on earth and being obedient to him translates to total obedience to God. For his first installment of Say "Yes" to the Church...and you say "Yes" to Jesus, click on THE VICAR OF CHRIST SPEAKS

April 25th Medjugorje Monthly Message for

Dear children! Today I call you, through prayer, to open yourselves to God as a flower opens itself to the rays of the morning sun. Little children, do not be afraid. I am with you and I intercede before God for each of you so that your heart receives the gift of conversion. Only in this way, little children, will you comprehend the importance of grace in these times and God will become nearer to you. Thank you for having responded to my call.

When shortcuts are helpful!

Often taking a shortcut can be the easy way out, the lazy man's manner of dealing with something, but there are other times when, by taking a shortcut, we can reach our destination quicker and save time. In today's column by Father Stephen Valenta, OFM Conv. he explains that shortcuts can be good when we avoid the detours and gridlock of mindcramp and take the straightest line to the heart. For the first part of his talk on Shortcuts to the Heart in his column about "How to Pray with the Heart," click on HEARTS TO HEART TALK

Murder suspect of Bishop nabbed in Guatamala

Eye witnesses have helped nail a suspect in the gruesome murder last week of human rights crusader Auxiliary Bishop Juan Gerardi Conedra who was fatally smashed in the head with a cement block as he entered his church. The funeral was held Wednesday morning. Authorities have not released the name of the suspect but are investigating his background to see if it was a retaliation against the Bishop's strong human rights platform. For more, click on Arrest

Red China playing games with Vatican as they backpeddle again on Chinese Bishops while passing blame to Pope

Never trust a communist! That has been brought through in countless cases throughout this last century and once again Holy Mother Church is encountering the lies with Red China who, rather than apologizing for not allowing two bishops who were to attend the Asian Synod in Rome, have instead placed the blame on Pope John Paul II for even inviting them because, according to the Communists, the bishops belong to the state-run Catholic Patriotic Church which is not in union with Rome. No word from the bishops if this is true. Many suspect they are, in fact, loyal members of the nearly four million underground Roman Catholics who are truly loyal to the Holy See, but because of persecutions, are not able to express their faith openly. Pope emphasizes that education at the higher levels can be dangerous without the proper Catholic Chaplains to guide the scholar

Warning a group of chaplains taking studies at the University of Rome that they must emphasize spiritual principles among their pupils, the Holy Father held a special audience for them, entreating them to temper liberalism of scholastic circles with true spiritual values that will help nourish a Christian culture within their environment and solid principles that the students can take from there and apply in their appointed vocations. Brouha develops over remarks made by Vista candidate for California Senate on donations to Catholic Charities

If you give to Catholic Charities, you better know which ones. Evidently Republican candidate Darrell Issa, a self-made millionaire from Vista, north of San Diego, made the comment that he had been very active with St. Vincent de Paul Society. Their spokesman, the popular media-savy Father Joe Carroll carefully couched his response. Issa may have mistaken Fr. Carroll's organization with the St. Vincent de Paul Center at St. Francis Church in his home town of Vista. Regardless it was an embarrassing moment for the pro-life Republican for the Senate to unseat Democratic pro-abort Barbara Boxer. For more, click on Oops to read more.
