The Presentation of the Lord in the templeGroundhog's Day Let's ground the groundhog in favor of a greater occasion!

While many consider this day famous for being Groundhog Day, the faithful see an even more important and pertinent reason to celebrate this day for it is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. While the legend has it that if the groundhog sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter, had Our Lord not been presented in the temple by His Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph who knows if any of us would have had even a second of this life? We owe everything to God and it was through the Love and Mercy of the Father that He gave us His only-begotten Son for our salvation. No groundhog can compare with that! The account of Mother Angelica's miraculous healing casts out all shadows of doubt

Mother Angelica, afflicted with crippled legs and a bad back for decades, is miraculously healed       We first broke the story over the weekend and today we give you a "play-by-play" of Mother Angelica's truly miraculous healing of a forty-year crippling affliction that was first announced on EWTN's live "Life on the Rock" youth program by host Jeff Cavins. In today's commentary we detail the how and who of this wondrous Heavenly phenomenon that has turned Mother's pain and sacrifice into total joy for her and all the faithful. All glory and honor is due the Almighty for this wondrous gift that will enable Mother to serve as a primary witness to God's miraculous healing power. For her story entitled Expectant Faith means to expect anything from the "Lord of the Unexpected", the first part of a multi-part commentary, Click on TODAY'S CATHOLIC PewPOINT

Graces and miracles come when we are unified as one
In his column today, Father Stephen Valenta, OFM Conv. begins an extended treatise on unity titled "In UNITY there is Strength!" He shows how fragile unity can be and what happens when we are divided. Only through total obedience to God's Will can we hope to be unified as He wants us to be in His One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. It is not easy and satan, once unified with God and the other angels, was not satisfied with unity and sowed dissension. Today he continues to sow this dissent in all God's children and only by placing our total trust in Him can we avoid being divided. Click on HEARTS TO HEART TALK

The Vicar of Christ calls all laity to the spread and live Christ's WordUnity is paramount to fostering and nourishing the necessary lay renaissance within Holy Mother Church
Continuing with our feature series on the Holy Father's encyclicals and Apostolic Letters and Exhortations, we bring you the fifth installment of his Teaching on the Laity - Christifideles Laici, expertly analyzed by Dr. Joseph Bagiackas, who summarizes the Pope's words into lay terms everyone can understand and respond to. His work has been praised by many bishops and theologians, chief among them Cardinal John O'Connor of New York who wrote, "I believe these are extraordinarily helpful summations that will draw the reader closer to knowing God and will encourage broader readership of the writings of this remarkable Pope." PRAYERS & DEVOTION
Today's prayer is taken from theGospel Canticle of today's feast of the Presentation of the Lord

In peace, dismiss Your servant, Lord,
    Your vow to me has been fulfilled;
My eyes have seen the saving grace,
Your promise for all nations willed.

A glorious light has been revealed
In love, to shine in ev'ry land:
    The pride of chosen Israel,
Made manifest by Your Own hand.

Give glory to our God on high,
To Jesus Christ all glory raise,
And glory to the Spirit sing
    In never-ending thanks and praise.

Medjugorje Monthly Message for January 25th

The Gospa     Dear children! Today again I call all of you to prayer. Only with prayer, dear children, will your heart change, become better, and be more sensitive to the Word of God. Little children, do not permit satan to pull you apart and to do with you what he wants. I call you to be responsible and determined and to consecrate each day to God in prayer. May Holy Mass, little children, not be a habit for you, but life. By living Holy Mass each day, you will feel the need for holiness and you will grow in holiness. I am close to you and intercede before God for each of you, so that He may give you strength to change your heart. Thank you for having responded to my call!

HEADLINES:
Senseless killings in Rwanda must stop! Bosnian Franciscan priest latest casualty.
News came down yesterday that another priest had been murdered as the violence mounts in the country of Rwanda, Africa. This on the heels of the affirmation that five nuns were slaughtered in January (See the second headline below). The latest casualty was a Bosnian Franciscan priest who, quite possibly, was known by many of the Medjugorje Franciscan priests. The priest was Father Vijeko Curic who had been assigned as a missionary to this area. More have died from religious persecution in this century than the nineteen hundred centuries prior. Five Rwandan nuns massacred in their homeland!
Just as Fr. Vijeko met received his martyrdom this past weekend, five nuns, all native Rwandan citizens, were senselessy slaughtered in the huge massacre that took place in mid-January and which the Holy Father has strongly deplored. The Vatican did not confirm until now the additional quintet of religious sisters who had been given permission by the Bishop to leave their safe convent and be among the people ministering to them. It was there they met their martyrdom. Click on Martyred nuns to read more.

Armey masses an army of support to depose cloning once and for all!
Fearing the great danger in experimental cloning of human beings and the agendas of such "mad scientists" as Richard Seed of Chicago, Texas congressman, House Minority Leader Dick Armey announced late last week that he would lead the charge to put a halt on cloning. He was flanked by some of the leaders of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops as well as other Christian coalitions united against this unnatural process and determined to make the ban perpetual. Fruits begin to manifest from Holy Father's visit to Cuba, especially in Guatemala
Late last week word came from Guatamala that that country was reinstituting diplomatic relations with Cuba, heeding Pope John Paul II's plea for cooperation and reconciliation. Also cooperating was one of the fiercest anti-Castro activists - an exiled writer who has pledged peaceful overthrow of the Castro regime rather than through bloodshed. Click on Cuba to read more.
