The peach and the pits: Blame it on the NBA

Today we celebrate the one hundred and sixth anniversary of the founding of the great indoor game of basketball when Dr. James Naismith came up with a peach of an idea by nailing two peach baskets to opposite walls in Springfield, Massachusettes and a game was born. Speaking of born, twenty five years ago another game was instituted and the competition and violence inherent in this deadly "game" subtracted greatly from the born. Namely it was the final week of the United States Supreme Court coming to a decision on a little-known case called Roe vs. Wade. Two and a half decades later we can see the decision for what it was - the pits and the unleashing of all the legions of hell on a world that has blindly embraced the culture of death. In our feature megaseries on the Church today we devote this installment and next week's on the very day of the twenty fifth anniversary of this dreadful decision that forever changed the face of history...forever changed the faces of the faceless for millions never had the chance to show a face because so many politicians, feminists and abortion doctors would do anything to save face. In today's fifty-fourth installment entitled, "The Culture of Death's silent accomplices," we discuss this day that will live in infamy and the consequences America and the world has suffered because of it. Blame it on the NBA, no not the popular National Basketball Association which evolved from Naismith's drawing board, but the other NBA - the National Bar Association which supported the attorneys who pushed Roe vs. Wade all the way to the supreme court. The fuzz was off the peach and nothing left but the pits including the pits of hell where countless souls have gone as the result of the legalization of abortion. Yes, it was a sad day and has been even sadder since and no one weeps more than the Mother of God. Click on WHERE IS HOLY MOTHER CHURCH HEADING AS WE NEAR THE MILLENNIUM?

"As for the dragon, the antichrist: From out of the waters he will come; from the smoke he will arise."

Those were the poignant words of the Blessed Mother to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart on October 5, 1991 which incorporated one of the most powerful messages to her to that time. It dealt with the lure of satan's wiles and the advent of the antichrist and how, only through prayer and vigilance, can we be truly prepared for what is to come. Nothing ordinary about this time!

Though we are in the midst of the first week in Ordinary Time in the Church calendar, it is anything but ordinary. This is a time of joy and preparation, joy of the season of Christmas and Epiphany just passed and preparation for the season of Lent now less than six weeks away. Click on LITURGY FOR THE DAY

PRAYERS & DEVOTION

Prayer for the Respect for Life

Loving God, Creator of all life, You have known us from all eternity. Before you ever formed us in our mothers' wombs, You knew us. Teach us to foster the loving care of all Your creation, including the unborn, the elderly, the handicapped, the terminally ill. Help us to see anew the miracle and sacredness of all life, and give us a profound awareness of our responsibility toward this gift from You. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Medjugorje Monthly Message for December 25th

Dear children! Also today I rejoice with you and I call you to the good. I desire that each of you reflect and carry peace in your heart and say: I want God in the first place in my life. In this way, little children, each of you will become holy. Little children, tell everyone, I want the good for you and he will respond with the good and, little children, good will come to dwell in the heart of each man. Little children, tonight I bring to you the good of my Son Who gave His life to save you. That is why, little children, rejoice and extend your hands to Jesus Who is only good. Thank you for having responded to my call!

PROVERB OF THE DAY

"The Lord begot me, the first-born of His ways, the forerunner of His prodigies of long ago; from of old I was poured forth, at the first, before the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no fountains or springs of water; before the mountains were settled into place, before the hills, I was brought forth; while as yet the earth and the fields were not made, nor the first clods of the world."

Proverbs 8: 22-26
