An Ode to the Bard
Today is the 434th anniversary of the birth of that notable bard William Shakespeare and the 382nd commemoration of his death on the same date. Born at Stratford-on-the-Avon, this literary genius gave the world the God-given treasures of literature for generations to come. His tombstone at the Church of the Holy Trinity at Stratford where this editor was privileged to visit, reads: "Good friend for Jesus sake forebeare, to digg the dust encloased heare, Bleste be ye man yt spares thes stones, And curst bey he yt moves my bones." Please remember Old English was the norm back then so those are not typos or misspellings. Shakespeare was torn by the torment of the Reformation; his heart and soul were aligned with Rome while his life and political needs were tied to the Church of England for King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn's daughter Queen Elizabeth ruled England during most of the bard's life. In today's issue we tie in various phrases Shakespeare made famous in describing the articles contained in this edition.
"O call back yesterday, bid time return."
That line is from Shakespeare's Richard II, Act III, scene 2 and refers to our installment today of our on-going mega series on the state of the Church today where we only wish we could call back yesterday and bid time return so those who have strayed from the Church over the centuries, those branches that have broken off the Vine, could reconnect to the "Tree of Life" - the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church Jesus founded. For today's installment entitled, Pruning the Tree!, click on WHERE'S HOLY MOTHER CHURCH HEADING AS WE NEAR THE MILLENNIUM?
Wake-up Call to all Catholics the thirty-first clarion
One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic - part twenty-six: Pruning the Tree!
"I am the Vine, you are the branches."
John 15: 4
Continuing our trend of thought on schisms within Holy Mother Church over the course of her existence, we can see that in every instance when one door shuts, God always opens another wider. Such was the case of the Protestant Reformation when thousands, through a combination of brain-wash by satan and corruption within the clergy, countless souls broke away from the True Church in Europe. At that same time in the new world - Mexico to be exact - the Blessed Mother of God appeared to Juan Diego, an Indian peasant to whom she presented the famous tilma of roses which to this day is still intact and hangs in a glass case above the altar at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe just outside Mexico City. Her appearance there, documented in our series THE AGE OF MARIAN APPARITIONS, resulted in millions of conversions to Catholicism and a strong footfold for the faith in the Americas. Through the centuries that faith grew, especially in South and Central America thanks to the dauntless efforts of the missionary orders of the Franciscans, Dominicans and Jesuits - orders that were formed in the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries respectively in addition to other religious congregations who gave everything they had to spread the holy faith in fulfillment of Christ's words in Matthew 28: 19, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you all days, even unto the consummation of the world."
That last reassurance that Jesus will be with His Church always confirms why the Church has not faltered, remaining the only True Church through two millenniums for the line of Peter has not been broken in nearly 2000 years. No other Church can make that claim. Faiths that have branched out from the main tree of Catholicism since 33 A.D. may claim they have Jesus, but the question is: do they? As we covered in the last installment on the marks of the Church, the "Tree of Life" is rooted in Jesus Christ Who established His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church for all generations. The words of John 15: 4-6 bear this out. "As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me he shall be cast outside as the branch and wither; and they shall gather them up and cast them into the fire, and they shall burn." Those are Our Lord's words and they apply to those who have broken away from the "Tree of Life" and become those branches that cannot possibly exist if they are not connected totally to the "Tree of Life."
Just as those breaking off in schism have fallen away and are withering, so also another schism is ready to erupt that threatens even a larger branch to fall from the Tree. That schism is being fostered by the liberal modernist movement within the Church just as Our Lady predicted at La Salette when she proclaimed "Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of the antichrist" and to Saint John Bosco in his vision when he was told, "Though your difficulties remain, they will be resolved. If you find yourself in difficulty, do not stop but carry on until the hydra head of error is broken. This blow will cause earth and hell to tremble..." Our Lady further elaborated at Akita when she imparted to Sister Agnes that "The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against other bishops...the Church will be full of those who accept compromises..." The latter has been confirmed and accepted by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and he is alarmed, as should we be also. The only way for the enemies of the True Church to effect a full departure from Rome is to eliminate the man who stands in their way - Pope John Paul II the great pontiff who strives to preserve all that is holy in these unholiest of times. In the next installment we will delve into how other popes offset threats against Holy Mother Church and a few of the great saints God sent to defend her. In future installments we will continue to identify the causes and effects of the great schism that threatens Holy Mother Church as she nears the millennium and how we as lay warriors for the Two Hearts can best be equipped to thwart the all-out efforts of the enemy.
"Defer no time, delays have dangerous ends"
That quote comes from the play Henry VIII by Shakespeare and it portends to our editorial today as we echo the advice of Pope John Paul II who warns all not to look for the "end of the world" or believe the doom and gloom brigade professing that the end is imminent. Rather he urges all to concentrate on the mission of the Church to share Christ's words and His ways in bringing all back into the fold. We concur by emphasizing that we cannot defer time, and to delay in doing what the Holy Father says or dismiss the thoughts that we do not have to be concerned or convert now as Our Lady is pleading, for delays have dangerous ends. "All's Well That Ends Well!"
Just as happened in the late tenth century as they approached the second millennium, talk of the imminent end of the world is growing as we near the third millennium. Thankfully, the Holy Father is trying to puncture a hole in the doom and gloom balloon by stating the facts in his weekly audience yesterday at Pope Paul VI Hall at the Vatican. In a story from CWN, Pope John Paul II attempted to put to rest all the "deceptive and erroneous" accounts of the final apocalypse. He acknowledged that life on this earth will eventually be no more, but he added that "Christ did not indicate any chronological framework." And neither has His special emissary He has sent to bring all His children back into the fold - His Blessed Mother Mary. He talked about the final coming of Jesus, reminding all of the prayer repeated at most Masses "Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again!" But when Jesus will come, as foretold in Sacred Scripture is not for us to decide, but God's alone. The Pope reiterated that the celebration he has been promoting of Jubilee 2000 is the two millennium anniversary of "the first historical coming of Christ." He urged all to celebrate that and not jump the gun by trying to calculate when the second coming will occur. He reminded his audience what Jesus conveyed to His disciples regarding the end times that "many events" would occur before that final time. Just as Our Lady as has cautioned us to to be preoccupied with the final end times, she refers to these times as "end times" in the sense of the "end of an era"...not the end of the world! Both the Pope and Mary, as well as Our Lord, caution us not to "look" for it, but to focus our attention on bringing back into the fold as many of God's children as we can as accomplices with Heaven before these times do occur for we do not know the hour or the day. As Jesus says in Matthew 24: 44, "Therefore you also must be ready, because at an hour that you do not expect, the Son of Man will come." The Holy Father prompted all Catholics to focus their attention on evangelization and loyalty to Christ and His Church for that is the specific mission of Holy Mother Church - "the profound transformation of human persons under the influence of the grace of Christ."
Even within the Marian movement and those loyal to the Magisterium, there is confusion as to the "end times" Our Lady has spoken of to the visionaries and messengers in these latter times of the twentieth century. Some mistake her words as referring to the catalytic end of the world, but she is not. She is referring to the end of an era - the end of a time where sin reigns supreme and the beginning of a new era when her Divine Son will indeed come again, but not physically as He has promised in Sacred Scripture, but Eucharistically where those who believe will know Him without a doubt in their hearts. It will be a time when the promised "era of peace" will be a reality, when satan will be bound and chained and cast back into hell for a designated time. It will mark the end of the terrible afflictions that plague us in this latter part of our century such as abortion, homosexuality, promiscuity, blasphemy, and all the seven deadly sins that the evil one assaults us with in his last ditch effort before his big defeat by the Two Hearts. That will mark the glorious Triumph of the Immaculate Heart which Mary predicted at Fatima when she said, "In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph." This will usher in the ever glorious Reign of the Sacred Heart of Jesus also referred to as The New Advent or the "Era of the Holy Spirit." Whatever it is called it will be a time of peace and spiritual prosperity. It will be a time when we return to basics - love for one another where all live in harmony - at least for a time, for God has said the world will eventually fall back into its old ways as history proves and satan will be unleashed once again and then, as many believe, will come the final Apocalypse - the end of the world as prophesied in Scripture.
So relax, the world is not going to end until God says so, but the world as we know it will end in the sense that all the modern conveniences we depend on so much today will become irrelevant in a "new society" where love of God and neighbor will abide. But before we can have this "earthly utopia" there must be a purification - a cleansing of the evil that eats away at mankind like a deadly cancer today. Just as God cleansed the world with the great flood of which only Noah and a few escaped some 4000 years ago, just as He cleansed the world with the Birth, Life, Passion and Death, and Resurrection of His Only-begotten Son ushering in the New Covenant nearly 2000 years ago, so also the time is ripe - the two-thousand year increment - when once again He will do a major cleaning job on His creation. So while the end of the world is not imminent as the Holy Father so rightly reminds us, he does not discount the fact that the Blessed Mother, to whom his papacy is dedicated - Totus Tuus, has increased her appearances and pleas in these urgent times for we are close to the cleansing. Many, many visionaries and messengers have been told this over the last two centuries from Rue de Bac to Lourdes, from La Salette to Saint John Bosco, from Fatima to Medjugorje, from Amsterdam to Garabandal, from Akita to Betania, and the list goes on and on. Something is close to happening as we have been documenting in our on-going series on THE AGE OF MARIAN APPARITIONS and in our mega series on the Church today - WHERE IS HOLY MOTHER CHURCH HEADING AS WE NEAR THE MILLENNIUM? Blessed Mary has conveyed more than a few times to her beloved messenger Father Don Stefano Gobbi before his messages ended last December, that her Immaculate Heart would triumph before the year 2000. Our Lady gave no dates which follows with the fact that Heaven does not pinpoint the exact times but only the general area of when an event will take place. But she has narrowed it down within a three year time period - that it would happen before Jubilee 2000 becomes a reality. That has to be both tremendously encouraging and alarming in the fact that we have so little time and that satan is not going to go down without a fierce fight. Today is the feast of a great soldier of the Church, Saint George who slew the dragons of dissent from the True Faith. We can take a cue from this great military man of the Church to gird ourselves in the protective armor God provides as Saint Paul advises in Romans 13: 12, 2 Corinthians 6: 7, and Ephesians 6: 11-13. As members of the Church Militant this is mandatory, as members of Christ's flock it is vital, as members of God's universal Church this is the only course we can take.
To borrow a few titles from the eloquent bard William Shakespeare, whose birthday and death the world observes today, while talk of the end of the world is "Much ado about Nothing", this world has become a "Comedy of Errors" and God knows that His "Love's Labour's Lost" means a cleansing is imminent and it is no "Midsummer Night's Dream" or "The Winter's Tale" that "The Tempest" will occur not "As You Like It" but as God deigns for "Measure for Measure" we must realize that in His Master Plan for His children "All's Well That Ends Well!"

We do pray for mercy; and that same prayer doth teach us all to render the deeds of mercy."
Those words are taken from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice, Act IV, Scene 1. They apply to the Blessed Mother's 142nd and 143rd messages to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart which we bring you today in which Our Lady urges us to not delay in reaching out to others to help them for the Heavenly Triumverate of the Trinity have shown great mercy during these evil times and that mercy can only be applied if it is reciprocated to our fellow man. Message One Hundred Forty-Two, January 14, 1992
(Imparted to the Hidden Flower by the Immaculate Heart of Mary)
Beloved Hidden Flower, I am with you. My dear precious children, why do you doubt that I am with you, as is my Divine Son always? My Divine Son has given all for you. He has given all to you so that you may never lose your way. His Church is the gift given to securely bring you home to heaven. And I desire all my children to pray with their hearts for this unity. I solemnly tell you the moment approaches when God shall still all divisiveness, and mankind shall be brought to the fullness of this unity which is now so badly scarred.
I ask all of my children to pray for the pope who is my dear son, a son formed in my Immaculate Heart, my Son's representative who struggles daily for the cause of peace - God's Peace upon earth.
My children, do you realize to what depths of evil you have sunk, how depraved the world is? Where is there a nation of upright, honest hearts, of clear consciences? Nowhere! Dear children, do not look to your government, to your elected officials to bring you security and peace, justice and love. This is a falsehood, for it is based upon man's lower ego, not upon man's superior ego, his soul.
You have entered an extremely critical moment in your country, but you are blind to the Truth. So ensnared are you by the traps of satan that you are comforted as long as your earthly needs are met. You push aside all things of God, and even work tirelessly that God may not interfere in the functioning of your government.
This should not be. It must not continue! O! Beloved children, begin now in fervent prayer to seek the Holy Spirit's guidance in all your earthly affairs and decisions. With God all good shall be accomplished. Without Him only satan's traps and ever-increasing sorrows from which you can find no relief.
Come back to God Who alone is life. He alone is your all. He alone is Love. He alone is Justice and Mercy. He has sent me to prepare you in a holy way for all that has been foretold to you. Heed my motherly warning and I shall help you in all ways to persevere in faith.
Pray! Pray! Pray! The moment is so urgent, but you do not understand. I bless you. I give you God's peace. Thank you for responding to my Call!
Message One Hundred Forty-Three: January 18, 1992
(Imparted to the Hidden Flower by the Immaculate Heart of Mary)
Beloved Hidden Flower, I bless you. I am here. There will be many sorrows, many of which I have revealed to you. As the days progress you will see the fulfillment of all I have foretold. I am the Mother of God, Queen of Peace. I call. I call. My Divine Son knocks relentlessly at the door of every heart but so often no one answers. He is grievously wounded by such rejection, yet so great is His Love He never ceases knocking. I come at His bidding to bring all to Him, the Only-Begotten Son of God Who died for all men of all nations.
I know, my child, how you feel. I, too, am deeply hurt when scorned, for God has ordained that honor be given me. I pray ceaselessly for all of my children before the Trinity, but they reject my intervention, they reject my Son's Truth.
My dear child, I solemnly tell you that grave times shall soon come upon the world. You are asleep, you do not see with the eyes of your soul, nor perceive with an intellect enlightened by wisdom. Rather, you believe your leaders, your press, your own egos which desire to believe that all is well with the world. You must realize, beloved ones, without God you have nothing. With God you have all! Man is the creation of God, sanctified, redeemed by Jesus Christ. You have been given so much, but you return so little. Yet God loves you so immensely that He grants you so many chances to come into His Light, His Way, His Truth. But you must choose and make your commitment - now!
Soon you will not be able to choose for the Justice shall sweep the universe. You must prepare. Lift up your hearts. Look to the sky, for the sign of God's power shall be made manifest. Behold your world. It's foundations crumble. You are looking for the wrong signs, because you have not prayed for the grace of the Holy Spirit. Pray! Pray always! Pray for the grace to have pure intentions and God shall lovingly give it to you.
Beloved, I have come among my children. I shall increase my appearances, and to many I shall speak. Hear my words, dear children. Open your hearts and come to me, for I desire that all belong to Jesus and, by His Merits, gain heaven for all eternity.
I love you, beloved children, I bless you. I give you God's peace. Thank you for responding to my Call!

FEAST OF SAINT GEORGE, MARTYR
Born near the end of the third century, Saint George became a great Roman soldier, being elevated to tribune for his bravery by the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Though he had been born of Christian parents, George did not become a Christian until he realized the atrocities being done to the Christians by his emperor. George openly rebuked Diocletian and begged the emperor to follow Jesus. For his efforts George was thrown into prison and eventually beheaded by the evil emperor around 303 AD. He became the icon for the Christian cause as his courage reinforced fortitude in every Christian. He has always been depicted as the great dragon-slayer - defeating the devil in the same vein as Saint Michael except George was upon a horse, garbed in Roman armor. Legend of his exploits spread throughout Europe and many miracles were attributed to his intercession after his death by those pilgrims who visited his tomb. Devotion to St. George was one of the most ancient and wide spread in the early Church. His fame prompted England to choose him as her patron saint and his feast was declared a national holiday there in the 13th Century. He is the patron saint of soldiers and Boy Scouts.

SAINT FIDELIS OF SIGMAREN, PRIEST & RELIGIOUS MARTYR
This saint was one of many who God rose up during the "Century of Saints" to counter the Protestant Revolt of the 16th Century. Saint Fidelis was born in Sigmaringen, France in 1577 of noble parents. Always devout to the sacraments, Fidelis became a Capuchin monk, embracing a life of austerity and prayer. The Congregation of Propaganda appointed him to go to Switzerland to save as many souls as possible from the growing heresy of Calvinism. While preaching in Sevis, Switzerland a Calvinist fanatic shot at him, but he would not be deterred. After his sermon, a mob of Protestants confronted him, headed by a Calvinist minister who ordered him to renounce his faith. Fidelis replied, "I came to refute your errors, not to embrace them. I will never renounce Catholic doctrine, which is the truth of all ages, and I fear not death." Incensed, the Calvinists pierced him through with their scabbards. He died for the true faith and Jesus Christ.
PRAYERS & DEVOTION
Today's Prayer is taken from the Opening Prayer of the Mass of Saint George
Lord, hear the prayers of those who praise Your mighty power. As Saint George was ready to follow Christ in suffering and death, so may he be ready to help us in our weakness.
