The Chaplet of Divine Mercy only takes ten minutes or so to say, but the results are timeless.

As the heat continues to grip the nation with a possible cooling break on the horizon as we head for mid-August, a plethora of subjects come to mind as topics for this editorial. First, we want to inform you this will be the last PewPoint commentary until next week since we are taking the second part of our summer sabbatical next week and will return with our Monday, August 17th issue. Therefore you'll find a full week's worth of issues in one place for your reading perusement. While the first week we took in July was more of a vacation, this will be more of a sabbatical with a spiritual tone to it as we prepare for the upcoming fall season both for the DAILY CATHOLIC and for the inevitable events to come which the Blessed Mother of God has foretold from Rue de Bac on, including LaSalette which we bring you this week in THE AGE OF MARIAN APPARITIONS. Just as the Holy Father takes some time to recuperate and revitalize in his summer residence of Castel Gandolfo high above Rome, we are taking some time to recuperate and revitalize in our year-round summer residence of Vista high above (300 feet or so) the azure Pacific. Soon after Pope John Paul II returns full time to the Vatican he will release yet another encyclical that promises to be pivotal as has his recent Apostolic Letters in which he is writing the epithet for liberal theologians and bishops. They no longer will be able to use loopholes to railroad through philosophies and liturgical practices and we are ever thankful to the Holy Spirit for that. After all it is the Sanctifier who guides the supreme pontiff and few popes have been as attuned to the vibes from Heaven as this great Papal leader of the late twentieth century. We review the story of John Paul II in our on-going feature WHERE IS HOLY MOTHER CHURCH HEADING AS WE NEAR THE MILLENNIUM? Speaking of the Pope, we bring you the first of two parts on the entire Apostolic Letter Motu Proprio Ad Tuendam Fidem this week and will complete that with next Monday's issue. This will be followed by his Apostolic Letter to the bishops Apostolos Suos the following week in our effort to bring you all the important pronouncements by the leader of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church in our weekly feature THE VICAR OF CHRIST SPEAKS.

We will continue with our retro summer series, bringing you the earlier chapters through the rest of the summer and resume sometime in September with new installments for all on-going series. New installments continue with the columns by Sister Mary Lucy Astuto while Father Stephen Valenta, OFM Conv. and Father John Hampsch, C.M.F. columns are new to the internet audience. The same with the messages to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart in "I SOLEMNLY TELL YOU..." and the Lessons/Meditations in THE HIDDEN WAY which will conclude in early September. Speaking of the latter, the book containing all 100 special lessons is now available. Just click on Special Offer for more information. Other features will continue with ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME changing titles to TWO MILLENNIUMS OF MEMORIES FOR THE CHURCH as the countdown continues toward Jubilee 2000. We also hope to revive our Golden Chalice Award in the fall. You'll notice our links section PORTS O' CALL has remained the same with no updates to this point. That is because it has become both a major job to add all the new links and a meg space headache. We are working on it and hope to have it all updated within a month or so with new categories in giving you a full complement of sources. Please be patient.

Patience is something we all need to have as people everywhere are trying to anticipate when the events prophesied by Our Lady will happen. What good does that do? If God wanted His children to know the exact time He would shout it from the rooftops. But He doesn't and the reasons can be found throughout Sacred Scripture and in the common sense of our minds and hearts for how many would live the messages if they knew how much time they had? The majority would wait until the last minute to repent. It doesn't work that way. But the Almighty drops plenty of hints and yet mankind is still so dense. Look at the weather patterns over the last several years - especially this year. Look at the nuclear threats in India and Pakistan as well as other trouble spots around the world. Look at the sorry state of China and just across the pond the tiny island of Japan, once such a formidable financial force, is on the brink of an economical collapse which will have a domino effect over the rest of the globe. Yet so many have their heads in the sand because "the economy in America is good" that they brush off the immoral regime sitting in Washington. The Clinton administration from the top dog down has become an embarrassment to all, but especially to the Creator. Our Lady conveyed to numerous visionaries, including the Hidden Flower, back in 1992 when this country elected the former Arkansas governor that we had sealed our fate and he would lead us to the brink like a "runnaway train hurtling toward the abyss." True to the Blessed Mother's words the man who represents the highest office of the land is doing just that and most of the passengers are mesmerized into thinking it's a joyride. Oh are they in for a shock!

And when these shocks hit home around the world as a result of man's actions or events foretold - and they will - we must not sit back and smugly say "I told you so." Rather, we must be there to help in any way we can - whether it is evangelizing the Word of God to those starving for Truth or ministering to people in the spirit of the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. As the Holy Father constantly emphasizes, we are all missionaries. God expects each of us to be there for others, not hide where we'll be "safe." There is only one safe place and that is not on this earth. If we live the messages Our Lady is conveying and has been imparting for nearly 200 years, if we live the Word of God imparted by the Holy Spirit to the Evangelists and Apostles of the New Testament and the prophets of the Old Testament, if we live our faith as Christ's Vicar on earth teaches, then we can be assured of safe harbor when our ship arrives in the Heavenly Portals. Until then we're in for rough seas and a voyage that is not going to be a pleasure cruise, but rather a mission of Mercy for all. If we are to expect Divine Mercy then we must reciprocate to our fellow man. One sure way is calling down His Mercy on this troubled world. Jesus conveyed to Blessed Sister Faustina the words "Have mercy on us and on the whole world.". Until that time comes when we may be called on to physically provide mercy and aid, we always have three o'clock in the afternoon - the Hour of Great Mercy. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy only takes ten minutes or so to say, but the results are timeless.
