PRAYER & DEVOTIONS
Though his feast is not celebrated in the new liturgy since Vatican II, it is the feast of Pope Saint Zephyrinus, who is considered a martyr. Therefore, we offer the following prayer dedicated to him below:
Look graciously upon Thy flock, Eternal Shepherd, and through Blessed Zephyrinus, Thy Martyr and Supreme Pontiff, whom Thou didst appoint as Pastor of the Universal Church, preserve the same under Thy continual protection. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

The Causes and Effects of the LaSalette message: Pertinent and Prophetic for Today
As part of "retro summer" we continue to bring you the early chapters of our on-going series to allow readers to catch up with what they haven't read. Today we continue the four part segment on one of the most fascinating apparitions that have had repercussions in our time late in the nineties as we near the turn of the millennium - the pertinent messages of La Salette In studying the messages and warnings of LaSalette we need to pay strict attention to all Our Lady conveyed for it is truly pertinent and prophetic for our times. In these apparitions, approved by Holy Mother Church as worthy of belief, we need to take seriously Mary's words for all she has foretold has or is coming to pass. With just over a year to go before the next millennium, we know that it is all coming to a head and, through knowledge of the messages and knowledge of our faith and through fervent prayer we can mitigate much of the chastisement that is to come. Prayer has already offset some of the omens, but, as the Blessed Mother repeats often, she can only hold back the hand of God so long. In the end Justice Will out. A Pre-millennium Milestone: Topping the Million Mark inside of nine months!
Today's editorial treats Milestones and Millstones; the latter points to the fact that Saturday we reached one million hits for the year and the former refers to what's in store for pesky insects and stubborn humans who fail to cooperate. Though it may sound confusing, you won't be so perplexed after reading our midweek commentary. For today's editorial Milestones are much better than millstones! , click on CATHOLIC PewPOINT

Martyrdom claims the life of four more religious as persecution through execution continue in the Congo
Less than a day after the Holy Father called for reconciliation and an end to the violence in the Congo, Rwandan rebels, who have refused to leave the country, illustrated only too well that they have no respect for authority or decency by committing another senseless act of violence; this time executing thirty-seven innocent citizens including one priest and three nuns, all members of the Sons of the Resurrection order whose mission was used for the mass executions. Argentinans unite behind the birthday of Mother Teresa to live what she preached
Taking a cue from their neighbor to the west - Chile, Argentina is showing strength in solidarity by using the birthday of Mother Teresa to rally around the cause of humanitarian causes, most of them Catholic-sponsored. They chose the "saint from the gutters" for her tireless leadership in helping the poor and most downtrodden of God's children. Today Mother would have been 88 and so, to honor her birthday, non-government non-profit agencies are resolved to follow her example. For more, click on Argentina
Two priests used as pawns in the struggle in Sudan between Islams and Christians
While most of Sudan gears for war with U.N. western powers, thousands of Christians gathered together in Khartoum to pray for the release of two priests falsely accused for a June bombing. Christians claim that the priests are scapegoats in the struggle to discredit Christianity by a largely all-Islam government who continue to persecute Christians in subtle, secretive ways. Columbia continues its moral slide with court decision that defies description
Once again the government of Columbia are showing their true colors with the bizarre decision to favor a satanist over a Catholic priest in a power struggle between Church and State. Many were surprised by the decision for witnesses attested to the satanic rituals an acknowledged agnostic taught at a high school in a small village of Columbia. The village priest called for his ouster, exposing what he was doing and the accused retaliated by suing the priest for defamation of character. The decision in favor of the new-age satanist proves Columbian leaders are greatly lacking in character. For more, click on Columbia travesty of the law.
