NEW EXORCISM RITUAL TO BE RELEASED

VATICAN (CWNews.com) -- A new rite of exorcism will be introduced in the Catholic Church on January 26.

The ritual of exorcism is one of the few aspects of the Rituale Romanum which has not been substantially changed during the past 300 years. But a new 70-page document, incorporating new directives for the ritual, will be unveiled at a Vatican press conference.

The new rite reflects a process of revision which took several years. A preliminary version of the new ritual was completed in 1990, and sent to all of the world's bishops for comments.

The last official change in the Rituale Romanum was made in 1984, and involved the formal rituals for various blessings.
