MEXICAN ARCHBISHOP HIGHLIGHTS EVANGELIZING ROLE OF COMMUNICATIONS MEDIAMEXICO CITY, 6 (NE) In a recent meeting with social communicators Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iñiguez, Archbishop of Guadalajara, urged them to be authentic evangelizers and defenders of truth. Concerning this he pointed out that "unfortunately all of us are used to the fact that work, apostolate and the mission of announcing the Gospel is the duty of priests. But that is not so, it belongs to all... religious, lay and specially to the communication media. They have a very important extra-ecclesial role."He mentioned that many times one considers the Church as a "service station " to which one goes strictly in cases of necessity. Facing this reality the Cardinal made a calling "to a true commitment as Catholics, a commitment of life and love to Christ and His Church" and pointed out that the communications media have a privileged place in order to thrust this transformation.
For this reason, said the Mexican Cardinal, "it is urgent for
each communicator to love the Church and help it in everything
he can." He urged to always be "truthful and objective,
respecting truth and goodness, without turning media into
classes of catechism, but always loyal to what they should be."
