Our Lady asks if we will sleep through the Glory
Meditative Lessons on the Glorious Mysteries
MY LORD AND MY GOD!
In the Blessed Mother's meditation today from Chapter 7: "He is Risen! Alleluia!" Our Lady asks us to consider the significance of the moment when millions and millions of souls were released from the bondage of Limbo to finally enter the kingdom of Heaven through the ultimate Sacrifice of her Divine Son Jesus and His glorious conquest over death with His Resurrection. Unlike the Roman soldiers who slept, Mary asks if we will sleep through the Glory when her Son comes again. Are our hearts comatose to the graces and Mercy He so generously dispenses? These meditative lessons, imparted by Our Lady to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart after Pentecost 1993, are meant to inspire and prompt a greater understanding of the Glorious Mysteries. For part two, click on "MY LORD AND MY GOD!"

Medjugorje
Monthly Message for
MARCH 25th
The Gospa's message for March     Dear children! I call you to prayer with the heart. In a special way, little children, I call you to pray for conversion of sinners, for those who pierce my heart and the heart of my Son Jesus with the sword of hatred and daily blasphemies. Let us pray, little children, for all those who do not desire to come to know the love of God, even though they are in the Church. Let us pray that they convert, so that the Church may resurrect in love. Only with love and prayer, little children, can you live this time which is given to you for conversion. Place God in the first place, then the risen Jesus will become your friend. Thank you for having responded to my call. For more on Medjugorje, click on MEDJUGORJE AND MORE

Piety promotes passion for the faith just as Catholic education elevates the consciousness of cultures

Following up a year after the Bishops of North, Central and South America, along with the Caribbean contingent, met for the month-long Synod of the Americas in Rome at the end of 1997, Pope John Paul II officially closed the Synod with his Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Ecclesia in America at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in Mexico City in January. Because of its significance for all Americans, we bring you this important document in several installments over the next few months. For those wanting to read the entire encyclical or check footnotes, go to Ecclesia in America For the sixth installment on Chapter Two: Encountering Jesus Christ in America Today - Popular Piety, click on THE VICAR OF CHRIST SPEAKS.

Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen Tuning our conscience
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"The growth of character could very largely be the discovery that the things we thought innocent once are no longer innocent. The more saintly a person becomes, the more he feels himself a sinner. That is because he judges himself not by worldly standards nor by his weak neighbors, but by God Himself."

    Events in Church History
St. Vincent Ferrer, O.P.     On this date in 1419 Saint Vincent Ferrer died in Vannes, France after a life of devotion to the Church. This zealous Dominican preacher, whose feast is superseded by Easter Monday, played a significant role in ending the Great Western Schism through his preaching and healing throughout Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands. "Come, seek forgiveness for I am the Font of Divine Mercy. I reject no one whose heart is humble and contrite."
Sacred and Merciful Heart of Jesus     Those words from Our Lord imparted to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart in Message #464 on February 28, 1994 has particular pertinence during this week of the Divine Mercy Novena. Jesus warns that if His Mercy is not asked for abundantly, then the Father will have no choice but to shut it down and send His Justice. The time is now but time is running out as Christ affirms in this message and His previous one three days later where He again offers His Mercy and entreats us to return to Him in the Sacraments and to pray for and with our children and honor our spouses. Pope has pulled out all stops in trying to achieve a truce in war-torn Balkans

Despite yeoman efforts by Vatican prospects do not look good for a truce    Nobody can blame the Holy See for feeling frustrated after all the work and countless hours the Pope and his select representatives including his top foreign-official Archbishop Jean-Louis Tauran have put in trying to mediate a truce between Yugoslav head Slobodan Milosevic and the NATO forces. Even meeting face to face with the former, plus the Serbian Patriarch has been of little avail. For more, click on Balking in the Balkans.

Veritable valley of vocations in South Korea producing fruits of missionary zeal
The faith was brought to Korea by missionaries who planted the seeds which today have sprouted into a flourishing Church where South Korea is now preparing to send their own out to others as missionaries, giving back what they have received and targeting their missions to those who are in most need of the Light of Christ. For more, click on Korean fervor.

Brazil to prepare for Cinquitennial celebration during the Jubilee year 2000 with Bishops Conference this month
In preparation for the 500th anniversary of the faith coming to the shores of Brazil by the Portuguese, the Brazilian Episcopal conference will be held this month with the emphasis on evangelization in the new millennium. Sixteen bishops will be presented by their Portuguese peers with authentic replicas of the crosses originally used in the first Mass celebrated in Brazil. The sixteen replica crosses were recently blessed in Rome by the Holy Father. For more, click on Brazil General Assembly .

The real joy of the Gospel happens on the other side of Calvary
Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, OFM Cap.    That was what Denver's Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, OFM Cap. emphasized to his flock during Holy Week in preparation for the Pascal season and reiterating that we cannot celebrate the resurrection without the crucifixion in the time honored tradition of nothing worth while is attained without sacrifice. Daily Dose of curious contents of the Church:
Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Legislative Texts
Today's featured prelate Cardinal Vincenzo Fagiolo served as President of this Curial council which is one of the twelve Pontifical Councils in the Roman Curia. It is one of the newest councils, having been established by Pope John Paul II on January 2, 1984 as the Pontifical Commission for the Authentic Interpretation of the Code of Canon Law almost a year after the new Code of Canon Law had been introduced. It replaced the 1904 Canons. The name change was decreed on June 28, 1988 by the Holy Father and in 1991 during Cardinal Fagiolo's leadership, the Council's responsibilities were expanded to include the interpretation of the Code of Canon Law for the Oriental Church which was disseminated the year before. The main purpose of this Pontifical Council is to oversee the authentic interpretation of the universal laws of the Church. (source: 1999 Catholic Almanac, Our Sunday Visitor).
