Historical Events in Church Annals for November 4:

  • 1529 A.D.
  • Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, Archbishop of York, is arrested. He was caught in the political vice of King Henry VIII over his divorce from Catherine of Aragon to marry Anne Boleyn. He remained loyal to Rome but had to walk a fine line for the sake of the clergy and people in England. He had been a prime candidate for Pope after the death of Pope Leo X and later Pope Adrian VI, but did not live to realize it.

  • 1584 A.D.
  • Death of Saint Charles Borromeo, Bishop in Milan. For more on this influential saint, see TODAY'S LITURGY.

  • 1990 A.D.
  • Pope John Paul II beatifies Blessed Louise Terhese de Montaignac de Chauvance, Blessed Marthe Aimee LeBouteiller and Blessed Elizabeth Vendramini.
