King, 72, one of the most famous blues artists in the genre's history, presented his electric guitar "Lucille" which he has played for more than 50 years to the Holy Father at a special audience for the singers and musicians performing at the concert. Other artists attending the audience included Italian pop star Massimo Ranieri, Italian actress Monica Vitti, Portuguese folk group Madredeus, and members of the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra. The Holy Father thanked King for his gift and wished him a Merry Christmas. King said before the audience, "Meeting the Pope will be a very emotional experience for me."
