Get a Life!

My beautiful bride has been giving me grief lately over the articles that I submit for Faith in the Family. She says that all of my articles are about pro-life issues and nothing else pertaining to our Faith, or to our family. My article today will respond to this statement and explain for you the reason why "pro-life" seems to be my only theme.

First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I am, without a doubt, the luckiest man on earth! No man could have a more perfect bride than I do with my Jane. She is the perfect wife, the perfect mother and the perfect business partner. There are a million different reasons rolled into one that make her my perfect mate. All of them point to the obvious; God made us for one another. Of all of the glorious gifts that He has showered down upon me in my life, my Jane is certainly the grandest of them all.

Our children, Timothy, Joseph, Forrest, Evan, Emma, Gabriel, Luke and the precious bundle on the way are a perpetual source of joy in my life. While a large family has a way of wearing one out, the joy that Jane and I receive far outweighs any negatives. There are a few absolutes in our home. 1) We serve the Lord, 2) Daddy's in charge and 3) Mommy and Daddy will get no rest.

Our outings for the entire family are few, but you can rest assured, when we do go out, we make an impression! I particularly enjoy it when we all go out to eat. We don't have to cook or clean and the kids all get to order what they want! Jane and I have canned responses for the negative comments that we receive regarding the size of our family.

I am amazed at the audacity of some people. They say things like "Haven't you figured out what causes that?" Evidently they are trying to Imply that we should get fixed or something. We are fixed just fine, the way God has deigned for us. Therefore, our response to this kind of comment usually baffles them when we tell them what causes "that": "Yes, God does." "Did you win the Lottery or something? How are you going to pay for college?" Our response to these superficial questions are always: "If you trust in God, He will always provide". And there is always the famous "Don't you know that there are people starving all over the world?"

I just say "Whatever" to this one. I could say tell them there are people all over the world starving for values and truth and for Our Lord and the more the culture of death penetrates society, the more their plates are empty. I could do a whole column and more on the fact that many of those starving people, such as in the Sudan, or in India, or El Salvador - where food and medical supplies would be so welcome, are being sent contraceptive and abortion kits by the UNFPA, supplied by, who else, good ol' money-grubbing Planned Parenthood.

But that's another story for another column. Right now I'm referring to references to my family and the blessings God has given Jane and I. The truth be known, I'm pretty surprised that we have eight children too! It seems like it was just yesterday that we had five (three years ago). God has blessed us tremendously over these past few years and I count each of our children as a special gift from Him!

During the day, Jane and I run Pro Life Communications. What a blast! I never dreamed that business could be this enjoyable! Our ministry started with a direct calling in June of 1998. Since He founded Pro Life Communications, we also maintain the posture that God owns and operates it as well. He is certainly the best boss I have ever had!

For those of you who don't know about Pro Life Communications, we are a national long-distance and filtered internet company that donates all of it's profits to pro-life, to protect His littlest ones. Customers sign up with us for long-distance or Internet and designate what pro-life organization that they want to support with the profits from their phone bill. Donating all of the profits is a far cry from what other affinity long distance companies offer (claiming to donate 10% of your bill). We donate between 20-30% of your long distance and internet billing to the "Culture of LIFE"! This is a very powerful opportunity for our customers. They have taken a utility bill and turned it into a meaningful contribution, with no money out of pocket. In addition, they save money themselves. Even customers that think they are paying 5 cents per minute now, save money when they switch to us. This is because we are set up as a non-for-profit and we have no monthly fees, no minimums and no hidden charges.

I know that many of The DAILY CATHOLIC's readers have switched to Pro Life Communications. Thank you. If you haven't switched to us yet, please consider joining us! Please contact us toll free at 1-877-TRU-LIFE (877-878-5433). I'm at extension 4 when you call; Jane's at extension 5. If either of us is away, leave a message and I guarantee we'll call you back immediately. Jane and I both believe in courtesy and respect and no one likes to be ignored or put on hold as if they're not important. I think you know that if you are one of God's children - then you deserve that respect and we will give you all the respect and time you need as sharing with you the opportunity to help others, and save money, too. Those are all important elements in this fast-paced society today. If you want to know more about us and our ministry, I refer you to Michael Cain's commentary, A Gift that keeps on giving for Life! in his CATHOLIC PewPOINT this past December.

Now that you have been better introduced to our family, our ministry, and myself it's likely that you already know the reasons why my only theme seems to be pro-life. God has called Jane and I to dedicate our lives to protecting the unborn. It is expected then that my articles will reflect the cause and communicate the truths to you about this horrifying act called abortion. Life is what family is all about. How can one have Faith without Life? How can one have family without Faith?

In my next few articles, I will be introducing you to particular pro-life organizations and sharing with you their awesome accomplishments. We have the honor of working with more than 350 pro-life organizations nationwide at Pro Life Communications, giving us a unique perspective on the pro-life movement. I will be introducing you to these standouts and provide you the details of their success as they strive to save His littlest ones. This whole pro-life crusade is an on-going battle that has claimed the lives of over 40 million, but slowly, ever so slowly it seems many times, but surely and steadily we will win because God wants it. When this horrible war is finally over, don't you want to be on the winning side? I sure do!
