God answers prayers! This was evident when the court in Rwanda acquitted Bishop Augustin Misago of Gikongoro of any connection with genocide stemming from the terrible tragedies in the early nineties. He had been in jail since April 1999 and many feared he'd be condemned to death, but justice won out! Truly great news for the Church in Africa which is undergoing tremendous persecutions. Pope Pius IX

Saturday and Sunday is the anniversary of two of Pope Pius IX's 32 encyclicals. One in 1847 on religious obedience and another in 1859 on the Pontifical States which would be reduced to one less than twelve years later when Italy confiscated the Papal States, incorporating them as part of Italy with Rome as the capital. The pontificate of this 255th successor of Peter remains, next than the latter, the longest in the Church at 32 years. For more, see

Pope prepares all for Trinity Sunday with an inspiring catechesis on perfect cohesion of the Triune Divinity with the Church during his General Audience this past Wednesday
His Holiness reads his Wednesday Message    In his General Papal Audience held in St. Peter's Square on Wednesday, June 14th with over 30,000 in attendance, His Holiness Pope John Paul II reflected on the awesomeness of the Holy Trinity and how the glory of the Trinity enhances and fulfills the life of the Church for "the Church, One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic is God's people, body of Christ and temple of the Holy Spirit. These three biblical images clearly indicate the trinitarian dimension of the Church." The Holy Father emphasized each mark of the Church in being absolute with the Holy Trinity.
