FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR JUBILEE OF HOMELESS
VATICAN CITY, JUNE 9 (ZENIT.org)
The homeless and beggars have an
appointment on June 15 in the atrium of St. Peter's Basilica. Together,
they will cross the threshold of the Holy Door, and later join the Holy
Father in Paul VI Audience Hall for lunch. Some 300 persons are expected
to participate.
With this initiative, John Paul II is emphasizing the solidarity that
characterizes the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000, as part of the "Pope's
charity," promoted by the Vatican Committee for the Holy Year.
The waiters at the luncheon for the poor and marginalized will be
seminarians from the Lateran University. Entertainment will be provided
by a band composed of another group of seminarians. Invitations are
currently been distributed in the dining halls for the homeless run by
Caritas in Rome.
