JUBILEE OF PRISONS IS NOT JUST FOR PRISONERS
Holy See Appeals for Involvement of All Christian Communities
VATICAN CITY, JULY 4 (ZENIT.org)
The organizers of the Jubilee
of the Prison World, which will be held on July 9, have appealed
to all parishes to join this celebration during Mass, as it not
only for prisoners but the concern of all Christians.
Bishop Giorgio Caniato, coordinator of the Committee for the
Jubilee of Prisons, has distributed a statement explaining that
John Paul II wants this Jubilee to be lived by all, not just
prisoners, especially those Christians who live and work in
prisons and the penal realm: officers, judges, lawyers,
volunteers, chaplains, and administrative personnel.
"It would be opportune to invite the 'workers of the penal world'
who are unable to celebrate the Jubilee of Prisons, to do so in a
Jubilee Church of the city," the organizer of the ecclesial event
explained.
In particular, Bishop Caniato proposed the "printing of signs and
banners to be placed in all churches, which should read: 'Jubilee
in the Prisons of the World.' "
In addition, he explained that the Jubilee must be prepared for
in prisons "with catechesis and confessions; and outside of these
with conferences and times of prayer."
