DAILY LITURGY for MONDAY and TUESDAY

Most of this week is devoted entirely to Ordinary Time, though on Tuesday we co-celebrate the Feast of Saint Camillus de Lellis, the Venetian who fought and badly injured his leg in the Battle of Lepanto. Through the power of the Rosary, he came to accept his infirmity and converted his life and was consecrated a priest. He went on to help the sick and founded the Camellians, also called the Ministers of the Sick. Through the prompting of Saint Philip Neri his order received Apostolic approval. He is often considered, along with Saint John of God, as the "Patron of the Sick," a title conferred on him by Pope Leo XIII and extended to include "Patron of Nurses and Health Care Workers" by Pope Pius XI. For the readings, liturgies, meditations, and profile on St. Camillus, see DAILY LITURGY.

Feast of Saint Camillus de Lellis, Priest and Religious Founder

Taken from the Preface for Proper to the Camillians of the Mass honoring Saint Camillus
You have blessed our holy father Camillus with a singular spirit of fraternal charity so that, like his brethren in all things, he would dedicate himself entirely to the service of the sick and, seeing in them Your suffering Son, would teach everyone the manner of serving them with utmost charity.

The DAILY WORD Taken from the Gospel for Monday's Mass
"He who receives you, receives Me; and he who receives Me, receives a prophet because he is a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a just man because he is a just man, shall receive a just man's reward. And whoever gives to one of these little ones but a cup of cold water to drink because he is a disciple, amen I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."
Matthew 10: 40-42

Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. SheenHate the sin and offenses, but love the sinner and offender

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"It has been my lot to spend much time with men who have suffered in prisons, death marches, Siberia, concentration camps and other forms of Communist tortures. But I have never known any one of them who ever said a harsh word against his persecutors. Like some trees which bathe with perfume the ax which cuts them, they had nothing but pardon for those who did them violence. They hated Communism, but they loved the Communists."
