DAILY LITURGY for WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY

Saint Henry    Wednesday and Thursday are both Weekdays in Ordinary Time, but Thursday is also the Feast of Saint Henry, Husband, Father and Ruler who played a significant role in returning Pope Benedict VIII to his rightful Papal Throne and deposed the imposter antipope. For his loyalty Henry was crowned Holy Roman Emperor by the Pope. A great ruler, he was also a willing victim soul in his later years exemplifying the virtues of charity and chastity. He and his wife Saint Cunegundes are often considered the Patron Saints for Married Couples. Friday we celebrate the Feast of the first Native American to be considered for canonization - Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. For the readings, liturgies, meditations, and profiles on these saints, see DAILY LITURGY.

Feast of Saint Henry, Holy Roman Emperor

Lord, You filled St. Henry with Your love and raised him from the cares of an earthly kingdom to eternal happiness in Heaven. In the midst of the changes of this world, may his prayers keep us free from sin and help us on our way towards You.

Taken from the Opening Prayer for the Mass honoring St. Henry

The DAILY WORD Taken from the Gospel for Thursday's Mass
"And whoever does not receive you, or listen to your words - go forth outside that house or town, and shake off the dust from your feet. Amen I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that town."
Matthew 10: 14-15

Famous quotes of Bishop Fulton J. SheenOnly God can promise and provide perfect bliss!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".

"In all human love it must be realized that every man promises a woman, and every woman promises a man, that which only God alone can give, namely, perfect happiness. One of the reasons why so many marriages are shipwrecked is because as the young couple leave the altar, they fail to realize that human feelings tire and that the enthusiasm of the honeymoon is not the same as the more solid happiness of enduring human love."
