George W. Bush"Make ready the way of the Lord, make straight His path." Mark 1: 3

While George W. Bush tries to properly prepare for presidential duties, we should all be preparing for Advent in the proper way

In our editorial this week, as difficult as it is to veer away from the presidential election contesting period that permeates our airwaves, we strive to alert all that just as George W. Bush is endeavoring to get a clear cut decision in the courts in order to properly prepare for a smooth transition to the White House, so also we as dedicated Catholics must take this time to clear the cobwebs of confusion over the political process and turn our attention toward Christmas. This doesn't mean the secular sense of shopping and decorations, but rather to prepare by searching our hearts and decorate our souls with more graces through the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist. This time of year is habitually a time when the flu and cold bugs visit, and when satan is especially and furiously active. We know why. It is also the time of preparation for the glorious Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the evil one hates this feast day and those who honor her with this great title for all the obvious reasons that we explain in our editorial this week as well as an explanation of why lucifer assaulted our site and closed it down over the long Thanksgiving holiday. In the December 1st issue Sister Mary Lucy Astuto shares in her column the greatest retreat she has ever experienced and why these times of reflection are so important for everyone in better focusing on the Crucified Christ in order to truly understand what His Blessed Mother went through and what we need to do in carrying our own cross and offering up everything during Advent. In addition, this is the 2nd day of a special Novena in preparation for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, whom our country is consecrated to under Mary's protection.
    SATURDAY

On December 2nd, the final day of the Liturgical Year - New Year's Eve for the Church - we present the Sixth Lesson on our special series on the Charism of Conjugal Love AT ONE WITH GOD as we put our finger on the problem: We've been role-playing to society, not fulfilling our God-given roles as husband and wife, man and woman. Only when we get back to the intended roles will we be back on track. In addition, this is the 3rd day of a special Novena in preparation for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, whom our country is consecrated to under Mary's protection.
    SUNDAY

    St. Thomas More

On December 3rd, the First Sunday of Advent, we bring you Pope John Paul II's closing Homily for the Jubilee of Politicians given on November 5th in which he also officially proclaimed Saint Thomas More Patron Saint of Politicians and encouraged all elected officials to take their roles and responsibilities as servants before God and man very seriously and uphold the Laws God established. In addition, this is the 4th day of a special Novena in preparation for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, whom our country is consecrated to under Mary's protection.
    MONDAY

    G.K. Chesterton - caricature by Gerry Gerstens, c 1986
On December 4th we bring you Pat Ludwa's thought-provoking column "VIEW FROM THE PEW" in which he turns our attention away from the election to Advent citing the common sense of the wise Christian English writer G.K. Chesterton and why so many Catholics swim against the Church's currents and away from Christ through their neglect and disobedience and failure to live their Faith. In addition, this is the 5th day of a special Novena in preparation for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, whom our country is consecrated to under Mary's protection.
    TUESDAY

Room in the Inn? Cyndi Cain

In the December 5th issue we bring you Cyndi Cain's article in her SYMPHONY OF SUFFERING series in which she poses the conscience-wrenching question to each reader as to how they would have received the Holy Family if they had owned property in Bethlehem 2001 years ago. It's an interesting hypothesis that causes us all to truly search our soul and seek more harmony with God and our neighbor. In addition, this is the 6th day of a special Novena in preparation for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, whom our country is consecrated to under Mary's protection.
    WEDNESDAY

    Saint Nicholas

On December 6th, the Feast of Saint Nicholas, the Bishop on whom Santa Claus is patterned, Dr. Frank Joseph summarizes in his weekly PRO-LIFE PRESCRIPTIONS column why Al Gore will not go away quietly even though doors are closing on him daily in the court room and the court of public opinion as even the media begin to turn on him. But those in league with satan will persist to the end. In addition, this is the 7th day of a special Novena in preparation for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, whom our country is consecrated to under Mary's protection.
    THURSDAY

On December 7th, the Feast of Saint Ambrose, Bishop and Doctor of the Church, we bring you the 208th installment of our on-going series APPRECIATION OF THE PRECIOUS GIFT OF OUR FAITH as we treat the 4th Commandment, today focusing on "Civic Duties" which ties in so well with what this country has just experienced for the last full month. If only Catholics had followed their Faith. In addition, this is the 8th day of a special Novena in preparation for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, whom our country is consecrated to under Mary's protection.
