But the ...More			The Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost features the parable of the wedding feast in the Gospel of St. Matthew and Haydock is so rich in this in discerning this magnificent analogy that Christ imparted to the chief priests, scribes and Phariseesis regarding the great banquet that awaited them if they would only abide by the King's request and take seriously His invite. We can see how over the last 2000 years so many have rejected that invitation or accepted it under their conditions, not God's such as by coming dressed in garb not recognizable or trying to replace the spouse, the true holy Catholic Church with a facsimile who, in truth, is a harlot and not worthy of the feast. Though invited, the great majority do not respect the King or they would comply with His request and honor both Him and His Son, not to mention His spouse. Saint Raphael the Archangel is the “angelic physician of soul and body” for the name of this archangel means "God has healed." Yet, Raphael does not appear in the Hebrew Scriptures, and in the Septuagint only in the Book of Tobias. Here he first appears disguised in human form as the travelling companion of the younger Tobias, calling himself "Azarias the son of the great Ananias". The story of the adventurous journey during which the protective influence of the angel is shown in many ways including the binding "in the desert of upper Egypt" of the demon who had previously slain seven husbands of Sara, daughter of Raguel, is picturesquely related in Tobit 5-11, to which the reader is referred. Here, the holy Doctor of the Church, the man known as the "Golden Voice" Saint John Chrysostom weighs in with inspiration and clarity on these verses as he explains our Lord's intentions and how holy Mother Church discerns what exactly Jesus meant in words that had to shock those gathered on the mount, especially those who were trying to trap Him into saying something that they could use against Him. He was indeed giving them plenty of rope, but to hang themselves, not the Messiah. As any Christian should know, the answer to that is no, God saves us. We cannot save ourselves. But we do have a role, however small and unimportant next to the role of God, in our own salvation, else preaching would be to no value. Some Protestants would deny us any role whatsoever in our own salvation, while most others at least realize that at least some choice for God is necessary on our part. Salvation is a gift and a grace from God. God does what He has done; we cannot change that. But we can change our response so as to be made partakers of this incredible gift. What must we do? Is it merely Faith or is work required, or is it something else? One thing is for certain: Even if a mere interior choice alone could bring us that salvation under certain circumstances, the fact remains that the more preparation we can make for Heaven now, the less we shall be obliged to do later. To take ...More			Today we move from those commandments which focus on how e are to treat God to the seven on how we are to treat our fellow man in fulfilling the divine Will. The Fourth Commandment is the crux, the crossroads to how much we love God by being obedient to those God has placed in our lives as parents, superiors and lawful authorities in accordance with the natural law. Today so many things have been blurred that generations have been programmed to believe they can do their own thing and that parents are there only to provide material things for them; superiors exist to learn and then climb the ladder after their jobs with little compassion or gratitude for the contributions made; and civic duty has been turned into greed and corruption, which illustrates why the world, especially America and Europe are in such dire straits because they have lost their moral compass because they have done what the head of the fallen angels refused to do: obey! On this eve of the Solemnity of Christ the King, John Gregory completes his five part dissertation on the Fifth Chapter of St. Matthew. In verses thirty one through forty eight we can readily see how Christ peels away the onion that was the Old Covenant in showing how His coming and His teaching will reveal the New. Oh, to be a fly on the wall to watch that onion being peeled and the reactions of those gathered on the Mount. What they were hearing for the first time was something that was unheard of. While they may have thought the Old was tough, the New could be considered tough love, yet so full of God's Love that it would draw more to hear this Son of a carpenter who was stirring up the land with His teachings and aggravating the heck out of the Scribes and Pharisees.
