It shines forth and gives light to our souls.
Events that happened this day in Church History
On this date in 1570, Pope Saint Pius V proclaimed the inevitable - excommunicating the eccentric and stubborn monarch of England Queen Elizabeth daughter of King Henry VIII who also had been excommunicated by Pope Clement VII thirty-seven years prior. It was the final break with England who would embrace the state-run Church of England or Anglican religion that remains the same today. Medjugorje Monthly Message for JANUARY 25th
Dear children! I again invite you to prayer. You have no excuse to work more because nature still lies in deep sleep. Open yourselves in prayer. Renew prayer in your families. Put Holy Scripture in a visible place in your families, read it, reflect on it and learn how God loves His people. His love shows itself also in present times because He sends me to call you upon the path of salvation. Thank you for having responded to my call.

If liberal liturgists followed the Vatican II directives strictly they'd find there's nothing new in the New Mass.
In his column today, Pat Ludwa completes his two part series of answering those who persist in perpetrating the myth of the Mass as a banquet and celebration of the people. He points out, with the aid of some very good sources, how the liberals have watered down the true essence of the Sacrifice of the Mass and, in so doing, taken away the reverence and awe that should be reserved for this august and most exalted of prayers and devotion passed down to us by Jesus Christ. Find out the truth of the purpose for which the Novus Ordo was truly intended in part two of his column titled Mass Confusion. For more, click on VIEW FROM THE PEW

Sacrifice is simple if we are properly conditioned and our soul is in shape
Today we continue our Lenten segment on the Church today, specifically with Sacrifice, a necessary spiritual and physical exercise we cannot live without! By its nature sacrifice dictates there will be a heavy attrition rate which Jesus knew only too well (cf. Matthew 7: 14) Our Lord has said that we need to be supple, enthusiastic and innocent as little children in order to inherit His kingdom. Sacrifice is the spiritual "nautilus" we must use to keep ourselves in shape to offset the sin-fattening temptations of the world. For the ninety-seventh installment of this on-going megaseries, click on WHERE IS HOLY MOTHER CHURCH HEADING AS WE NEAR THE MILLENNIUM?.
Our Lady clues us in Meditative Lessons on the Sorrowful Mysteries Today we present the Meditation of Our Lady on Lesson 2 of FAREWELL TO THE HOLY WOMEN AND THE MOTHER, where Mary explains the significance of this lesson to all her children as we continue to bring you these inspiring Meditative Lessons of Jesus' Passion and Death contained in the Sorrowful Mysteries. Blessed are the humble
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but the words of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen have been known to launch a thousand images in one's mind, one of the ways this late luminary did so much to evangelize the faith. Because of the urgency of the times and because few there are today who possess the wisdom, simplicity and insight than the late Archbishop who touched millions, we are bringing you daily gems from his writings. The good bishop makes it so simple that we have dubbed this daily series: "SIMPLY SHEEN".
"Praise will generally make the humble person uncomfortable, because he knows that whatever talents he has are gifts from God. He receives praise as the window receives light, not as the battery receives current."
Daily Dose of curious contents of the Church:
Portiuncula Indulgence
Yesterday was the 591st anniversary of Saint Francis of Assisi receiving his vocation to begin the Franciscans at the Portiuncula. We revealed the meaning of this, but there is another aspect of the Portiuncula which we didn't touch on; that is the Portiuncula Indulgence also called the "Pardon of Assisi." It commemorates the indulgence obtained by Francis on the occasion of the official approval of his Rule from Pope Honorius III. The Holy Father approved the plenary Portiuncula Indulgence for all pilgrims who would go and pray for the souls in Purgatory and recite an Our Father, the Apostles Creed, and another prayer such as the Hail Mary for the intentions of the Sovereign Pontiff. The stipulation was that they had to kneel in the small stone chapel known as Portiuncula inside the cavernous Saint Mary of the Angels Basilica at the base of the hill below Assisi. There they would receive a Plenary Indulgence if performed between midday of August 1 through August 2. Needless to say, countless pilgrims swarm into Assisi during this day and a half period to merit the indulgence. Partly because of that, the Church has since extended this indulgence to those who pray in other Franciscan churches and parish churches. The indulgence is good once each day with the conditions being that the penitent must be in the state of grace after having made a good Confession and receive Holy Communion within a day and a half of visiting the eligible church or chapel. On the first of May in 1939 Pope Pius XII extended the privilege to any pastor, with his bishop's permission and approval, to apply to the Sacred Penitentiary to allow the Portiuncula Indulgence in their parish. Many have responded where today there are countless churches and chapels where one can receive this plenary indulgence. Even now war looms on the horizon which will embroil every nation.
That shocking statement by the BLessed Mother to the Hidden Flower of the Immaculate Heart in late September 1993 is truer today in 1999 when we see the caldron that could boil over in Kosovo and the mideast. Our Lady warns in Message #410 that events are unfolding that will pave the way for the antichrist and the signs are evident, manifested in what is happening today throughout the world and America from the White House on down. All that Mary has foretold is coming to pass and the only way to combat the advance of satan is through her Rosary and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. She prefaces this same theme in Message #409 urging her little ones to keep the faith, not give up and willingly take up the cross for that is the only means of survival in the times ahead. For Messages #409 and #410 in late September 1993, click on "I SOLEMNLY TELL YOU..."

HEADLINES:
President of Franciscan University to step aside and become school's first chancellor in Steubenville
After 25 years of service as President of Franciscan University in which he transformed a once worldly institution into one of the most orthodox, loyal Catholic institutions of higher learning in the nation, Father Michael Scanlan, TOR is retiring. But he won't be kicking his feet up and taking it easy. Rather he will become the school's first Chancellor as he continues to be the guiding light for this Catholic university in northeastern Ohio. Lateran University follows up Pope's Encyclical Fides et ratio with special conference
Hoping to bring others more into line with what the Holy Father is asking through his latest encyclical Fides et ratio, the Lateran University began a week-long conference in Rome chaired by the University's president Antonio Scola who is hoping to clarify for those who have not digested the full encyclical its meaning and ways to explore the importance of bringing reason, philosophy and science in concert with faith and God. Sudanese Catholic children subjected to sneaky proselytized "baptisms" by Seventh-Day Adventists
As if Catholics in the Sudan are not having enough problems with Muslim persecution and civil war, not to mention famine, now they must face unscrupulous Protestant sects who are bribing some "Catholic" faculties to allow mass "baptisms" in an effort to "win" Catholics away. This direct assault on Catholicism will not be tolerated stated a diocesan official who equated it to stealing into your home and burning it down. The problems stem from so many unscrupulous agencies being allowed into the Sudan for purposes of giving aid. Instead of helping solve the problems through assistance, they have become part of the problem. For more, click on Unscrupulous unction.
Planned Parenthood panders pitifully to puberty-crowd with prurient web site designed to advance immorality and abnormality
If anyone had any doubts as to the non-profit organization Planned Parenthood's agenda to demoralize American youth by promoting immorality as the norm teens should follow, then their new website for teens dubbed "Teenwire" should convince you that this seedy organization is fully in satan's camp with no respect for God's laws or the Sanctity of Life. That's the summation not only of two pro-life groups geared to teens, but also of this publication and the NCCB who rail over the fact Planned Parenthood can get away with such atrocities and still maintain their non-profit status as well as totally pulling the wool over the eyes of so many with the false premise that they care about people, teens and parents. Folks, their agenda is pure garbage!!! For more, click on Pure PP Garbage.
