Pope Saint Callistus I

O Lord, may this mystical oblation benefit us: may it both release us from our guilt and confirm us in eternal salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who liveth and reigneth with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

FEATURED IN TODAY'S ISSUE:

On the BattleLineCardinal HummesFidel's boy LulaCardinal Arns

Atila Sinke Guimarães, a foremost authority on the causes and effects of Vatican II, foresees problems on the horizon from the south. While all eyes are on the upcoming U.S. elections in November, we'd do well not to ignore what is happening in the largest country of South America this October. In the old world the "Queen of the South" is Islam; but in the new world the "Queen of the South" could well be Brazil which, within the very near future, could become a terrible thorn in the side of the United States because of the apparent rise to power of the leftist Workers' Party. The sad facts are that the Workers' Party, with a strong communist bent and strong admiration for Fidel Castro, was formed by none other than a cardinal of the Church during the pontificate of John Paul II whose own agenda only empowers the revolution further. Liberation Theology is alive and thriving as Atila explains in his column At the Edge of the Abyss.

"Qui legit, intelligat"
Today we bring you the Sunday Sermon Father Louis Campbell delivered to his flock yesterday on the occasion of the 85th Anniversary of the final apparition at Fatima. It ties in with the Epistle for the 21st Sunday After Pentecost, taken from Ephesians 6: 10-17 in which Paul strongly advises to "Put on the armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil." Father Louis shows how Our Lady echoed Paul's words with her message at Fatima to "put on the armor" by praying the Rosary, putting on the graces through penance and sacrifice. Alas, however, we have not listened as Pope Pius XII prophetically warned. Instead they have done exactly what Papa Pacelli feared, embracing a "civilization of love" in which satan has sown deceit. The fruits of those who thought they had a better idea, as all can see today throughout the world, are growing more bitter by the day. 85 years later we still haven't obeyed Our Lady's simple request. This Father points out in his homily The Miracle of Fatima
The Rosary of Mary: our most powerful weapon. October is Our Lady's month, the month of the Holy Rosary. It is also the month we remember her victory for all of Christendom at Lepanto and the 85th Anniversary of the final apparition at Fatima, the day the sun danced. Truly October is Our Lady's time, the month of the Holy Rosary. Pray for the unborn and that abortion will not be compromised by the political expediency of the times where misguided prelates mistakenly join the Death Penalty with the Abortion issue. The Catholic Church condemns abortion, not capital punishment. Pray that the flocks will not be further deceived. Click on the Rosary button to recite the full Rosary in either English or Latin.

Doctors of the Church
The thirteenth Doctor in this chronological series on the Doctors of the Church was born at the turn of the 5th Century and, like his predecessor colleagues in the great academy of Doctors, strove with his every breath and magnificent oratory skills to uphold and preserve the Sacred fidei depositum . So great was his eloquence in conveying the Faith in all its beauty and simplicity that he is remembered, even though few of his sermons have survived the annals of history, as "Doctor of Homilies." He was Saint Peter Chrysologus.
Liturgy of the Saints
Today is the Double Feast of Pope Saint Callistus I, also known as Callixtus, who was the 16th successor of Peter. His five year pontificate was noted for his tireless work in overseeing the excavation of the famous catacombs on the Via Appia. He met a most bloody death, beaten with clubs by enraged pagans who tied a heavy stone to his neck and cast him into the Tiber. Just as Callistus had the body of a holy priest retrieved from the river, so also his followers did the same for Callistus' body and buried on where today stands St. Mary's in Trastevere. For more, see Pope Saint Callistus I.

Election Reflections
With the issue of abortion as the primary, major and only issue as far as Catholics are concerned, Mario Derksen lays out exactly what every Catholic - regardless of their affiliation to a political party - MUST do! When it comes to any candidate, there is only one issue!!! You MUST vote for the one who is the most pro-life. If neither are, DON'T VOTE for either one! To vote for a known pro-abort candidate, whether you think so or not, is truly being an accomplice to murder. That is a mortal sin. If you don't believe so, read his article and see the obvious, graphic "Holocaust of the Womb" and ask yourself if you won't be held accountable to God for enabling such horror by your vote?!! Mario explains quite clearly and graphically honest in his feature "Election Reflections" which we invite you to read at his Catholic Insights site in his column Election Reflections

Pro Life Prescriptions
Because of the importance of the upcoming election, we are carrying over Dr. Frank Joseph column wherein he gets down to brass tacks in entreating Catholics to not be afraid to shake the thunders under their pastors, bishops and fellow Catholics when it comes to expressing who to vote for. Dr. Frank illustrates clearly that it's not the Democratic candidates who, with the exception of a few in remote areas, all embrace the Democratic platform of the culture of death. He points out that we can no longer sit back and do nothing or pass it off as 'only one issue among many.' He questions both the sanity and intelligence of those who still vote Democratic. Yesterday it might have been the party of our grandparents, but today it is, without a doubt, the party of satan. Not only the future of countless preborn children depend on stopping pro-abort votes, but your very souls as well as he expresses clearly in his column Do Catholics enjoy Democrats bashing their Faith, or are they just plain stupid?
Guest Column
Today, in a follow-up to Dr. Frank's column above which we are keeping available throughout the week, we bring you below an ad being circulated by William A. Donohue, President of the Catholic League in trying to convince the Democratic National Committee of their anti-Catholic stance in supporting the apostate 'Catholics for a Free Choice' organization headed by Frances Kissling. Join the campaign to curb the Democratic Party from spreading the Culture of Death further. You can do that by voting out the pro-aborts, and by e-mailing the DNC below. For more on this, we invite you to see Donohue's commentary The Real Agenda of Catholics for a Free Choice

IS THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE ANTI-CATHOLIC?

On the website of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), there is a link to organizations of interest. Astonishingly, under the “Catholic” banner is a notoriously anti-Catholic organization, Catholics for a Free Choice (CFFC). The head of this group, Frances Kissling, has said it is her goal to “overthrow” the Catholic Church. Moreover, she has sought to silence the voice of the Vatican in the U.N. and has twice been denounced by the bishops as a fraud.

We have asked the DNC to stop its association with CFFC but it refuses. That is why we are asking you to join our campaign. Let the DNC know of your outrage by calling them at 202-863-8000; fax at 202-863-8174; email at dnc@democrats.org.
