Michael Cain, Editor, DAILY CATHOLIC
His background encompasses fourty years of editing, publishing and promotion. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 20, 1943, it was 1956 when Mike first met the Center's Spiritual Director Fr. Al Svobodny, OMI. Fr. Al was the Vocations Director for the Central Province of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the Order which was assigned to Mike's home parish of Assumption in Richfield, Minnesota. A year later, through Fr. Al's persistence, Mike entered the minor seminary in Carthage, Missouri. Seven years later, after completing his temporary vows at the Order's novitiate in Alton, Illinois, Mike, with help from his Novice Master, discerned that God had another mission in life for him. He took collegiate studies at OLO, St. Thomas College and then the University of Minnesota with a major in journalism. In 1966 the Vietnam Conflict beckoned and he served in the Air Force as an Information Officer. After completing his necessary military duty, Mike returned to civilian life, settling down in San Diego, California, where he established his own advertising agency after working for several others. While his business was very successful, including awards for his designs and campaigns, two things were missing. One was filled on January 18,1981 when he met his future bride Cyndi Adele Kreke at a Catholic social function in San Diego's Mission Valley. She became Cyndi Cain on May 10, 1981 when they were married on Mother's Day. They didn't truly realize God's plans in their life until their first pilgrimage to Medjugorje nine years to the day in May of 1990. There, with Fr. Al as the pilgrimage group's Spiritual Director, they both experienced a life-changing conversion that brought them to the apostolate of MIR-A-CALL Center after they made their De Montfort Consecration in 1990, completing it on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. Mike's thirty-five years as journalist and editor for varied publications, as well as high-profile promotional work for numerous professional sports franchises - including his design and production in record time of the promotional package in 1984 that landed San Diego its first Super Bowl plus outstanding awards and kudos for the cruise ship industry in San Diego - all these paved the way for the transition from secular to religious work. He had tasted the top and found it unfulfilling. But with his "yes" to Our Lady for her Divine Son, that last piece of the puzzle - a longing to help people in the way Jesus and Mary desire...not the world, was completed. On the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel in 1990 the Center released the first issue of A CALL TO PEACE. That first issue, an eight-page xeroxed sheet was handed out at the Cain's local parish. By the time the costs of printing and mailing had made it unfeasible to continue in 1997, Mike had written, laid-out, designed, edited, published and printed over one million issues sent by snail-mail around the world and placed in parishes everywhere. Realizing the advantages of the net, Mike masterminded the transition from print to the web, learning a whole new medium on his own in order to keep up with the times for God's sake. The launch of The DAILY CATHOLIC on All Saints Day in 1997 made it the first daily publication anywhere in existence. Since that time The DAILY CATHOLIC has reached millions in milleseconds daily without ever spending more than a few hundred dollars on advertising or promotion. Call it the power of word of mouth; Mike, an expert in that field, calls it what it really is: the Power of the Holy Ghost. Mike and wife Cyndi have two teen-age sons, Kevin Michael and Kellin Joseph.
