Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday

Saturday we return to that special time in Ordinary Time where nearly every Saturday we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturdays, her special day for it was the First Saturday Devotions she asked her children to observe when she appeared at Fatima in 1917 and the merits received by keeping the consecutive First Saturdays are assured by her promises imparted.

In true intimidation fashion by the Clinton administration fearful of a backlash by the Christian vote in November, they have coerced the IRS into putting pressure on churches and non-profit groups to stay out of politics. We will, but we will also continue to speak out on morals for when it comes to the Sanctity of Life and protecting the unborn it is not a political issue but a moral issue.

In Sister Mary Lucy Astuto's column this weekend, she features "The Perfect Storm." No, it is not the George Clooney movie, but rather our spiritual stabilizers that keep us afloat in rough weather and give us the assurance that we can't be capsized by satan and his legions from the depths if we have Jesus as the Skipper of our soul.

Death of four popes

During this weekend we commemorate the death of four Sovereign Pontiffs over the centuries. They include the 1,062nd anniversary of the death of Pope Benedict VII in 938; 847 years ago that Blessed Pope Eugene III died; it has been 696 years since the death of Blessed Pope Benedict XI in 1304 and the 377th anniversary of Pope Gregory XV's death in 1623.

The Holy Father reminds all in his Wednesday message that God is always there beckoning us through His Word and His graces to welcome back His prodigal sons with great love
His Holiness reads his Wednesday Message    In his final Wednesday Papal Audience on July 5 until he returns from his vacation in northern Italy, Pope John Paul II melded the Old and New Testaments in showing how God seeks us while we seek Him in a mutual admiration society, so to speak, that will culminate with our final union with Him forever. The Holy Father illustrates how Christ brought us the fulfillment of that seeking process by providing a vehicle in which we could find the Triune Divinity while at the same time providing the path for other faiths as well. All His children, no matter their creed, as the Pope points out, are the perpetual prodigal sons whom God is constantly ready to welcome back.
